2010-10-11 15:48:00 Hello from our humble guitar studio. We are currently working on guitar tracks for the next Mr. Fastfinger album. Here's Mika recording a solo for a song called "Action Beat". This is the actual take to keep. You're first hearing it as it sounds raw through the camera microphone and then together with the current demo mix of the song (here solo is also double tracked). String skipping (sometimes combined with tapping) seems to be the hottest technique around here :) Unfortunately producing an action packed kick ass guitar album isn't as fast as some of these solos are. We hope to get the album ready and released during the second half of 2011. In the mean time watch out for more material as we progress. Mika Tyyskä: tonight I'm Mr. Mika Konplerf!
2010-02-03 21:40:00 About a year ago I was working on the final recordings of Mr. Fastfinger's album "The Way of the Exploding Guitar". One of the songs, "Creatures of the Midnight" had recently went though a dramatic re-arrangement editing. Now suddenly there was one more guitar solo to record. I set up an audio sequencer to loop the backing of the solo and started improvising on the guitar. I think I spent at least an hour or more, testing out different ideas, tones and effects. Nothing felt right for the song and part, and I slowly started feeling hopeless with the case. I then rememebered seeing a clip of Mark Knopfler's (from Dire Straits) live concert on TV about a week earlier. I now felt his playing would fit the song perfectly. Enter Mr. Mika Konplerf!

I remember when I composed it was a hard compromise for myself, because I felt it is too "pop-style". And what a strange thing, in the next year I took it to a jazzcamp in Tatbánya where we played it on the ending concert. I still like this song that's why I put it on here. Mr. Fastfinger will return to Japan in June 2008 where he'll be doing clinic shows for Hughes and Kettner, a dealer seminar alongside with the great Thomas Blug.
