2008-05-08 14:51:00 LONDON: The US risks starting a new Cold war by proposing to build its missile shield in central and eastern Europe, former Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev warned in comments published in London yesterday. Washington claims the anti-missile system it wants to base in Poland and the Czech Republic is aimed solely at countering the threat from ...

Obama Discusses Negotiating with Controversial Foreign Leaders
2008-03-28 18:47:00 While in Manhattan, NY, yesterday, Senator Obama was asked about his comments in months past about him meeting with and negotiating with controversial foreign leaders, such as Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. Obama responded to the comment by saying, “I think people understand the notion of talking to our enemies. If FDR can meet with Stalin ...
Mikhail Gorbachev - Christian (as in Follower of Christ)
2008-03-20 23:39:00 GOD IS IN CHARGEToday when I did my movie Thursday Thirteen I put in what I think is the most perfect clip in all of movie history. Judah Ben Hur (Charlton Heston at his most – sigh) has just been consigned to the galleys as a slave. It is Mesilla’s intention for his old friend to die of thirst along the trek. The problem is Mesilla’s best laid plans were ruined by a humble carpenter who was all about love. There is something in that scene that is sacred, profound, and quite simple. It shows the love of my ...
Franciscan friars: Mikhail Gorbachev is a Christian
2008-03-20 18:58:00 The Times reports that Franciscan friars at Assisi have confirmed that Mikhail Gorbachev, the last Soviet President, is a Christian after he was seen praying at the tomb of St Francis."Mr Gorbachev has long acknowledged that he was influenced by his grandmother, an Orthodox believer and is a a regular participant in peace conferences in the Umbrian town where St Francis is buried.Vladimir Putin, a former KGB officer, has also turned to Orthodox Christianity and wears a cross round his neck.Father Miroslavo Anuskevic, a Lithuanian priest at the Basilica of St Francis, said he had spotted Mr Gorbachev - for years a professed Communist atheist - praying anonymously "in silent meditation" for half an hour at the tomb of St Francis "with very Oriental intensity" with his eyes closed, alongside his daughter Irina.President Reagan is said to have often wondered whether the Soviet Union's last leader was a "closet Christian," observing to aides at one point during a US-Soviet summit "I thi...
Adeste Fideles
2008-02-19 23:14:00 "Castro knew life is a stage and played the part of the dashing revolutionary coming to New York, getting rock star treatment." ABC's Diane Sawyer enveloped in the rapture of Fidel Castro. NewsBusters Barbara Walters had her way with Fidel (or was it the other way around?) the first time in 1977 when the then-48 year old Tee Vee star decamped in Cuba to interview the 51-year-old Castro. She had a couple more gos at him before handing down the Machiavellian charmer to Diane Sawyer. I understand how Babs could've fallen for the swarthy hirsute hunk noted for his catting around setting off a domestic Cuban missile crisis with the missus. Or how Diane Sawyer was swayed by Fidel's commie charms. My unrequited crush is still on the former Soviet Union prez Mikhail Gorbachev. El Commandante had enjoyed 18 years manipulating American liberal political and media elite and he played his adoring sycophants like a Stradivarius for the next 30 years. Barbara Walters, in a scene right out of a...

john howard and mikhail gorbachev, brothers?
2007-11-23 09:00:00 As I was browsing Google News today, I noticed something that I never noticed before. Has anyone ever noticed that John Howard looks really like Mikhael Gorbachev?I've decided to download two pictures of these 2 men and do a side-by-side comparison of their mugs. And just to make it more interesting, I've painted Gorby's infamous red patch onto John Howard's balding forehead. Check this out:Tell me, that just doesn't freak you out a little bit. Could they be related? I'm thinking, possibly. But anyhow, they can't be close. Because apparently, John Howard snubbed Gorbachev when he visited the land Down Under last year.Bastard!Check out this article Gorbachev urges Australia to sign Kyoto, from The Age, Australia.Gorby's old. He's travelled more than 20,000 km just to get snubbed by John Howard. How can he do that an old man, someone brokered the end of the Cold War?Geez.
Mikhail Gorbachev is a Louis Vuitton model
2007-09-05 04:22:00 Mikhail Gorbachev, the man I was named after by my parents, was in the papers some time last week. That time, I was surprised to see Gorbachev outside of any news item. Instead, he was in a full-page advertisement: Gorbachev is a model of Louis Vuitton! Here?s the picture used in the ad: Read the rest of ... [ This is a content summary only. The New Face of Louis Vuitton...Mikhail Gorbachev!?!
2007-08-02 21:02:00 When it comes to promoting their luggage, luxury brand Louis Vuitton has looked beyond the usual suspects of starlets and young models to be the face of their new fall/winter ad campaign. Instead they've chosen former Soviet Union president, Mikhail Gorbachev. Yeah, I was shocked too. And for the female counterpart cast in these more upscale ads, Louis Vuitton has chosen 64 year old French actress, Catherine Deneuve. The ads (as you can probably tell, because they've got her signature style written all over them) were shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. They feature the former Soviet Head of State sitting in the backseat of a limousine as he passes by a part of the Berlin Wall. I must say that I really like these ads. They definitely speak to the sophistication that one expects from the Louis Vuitton brand. And I also must commend LV for looking outside the box for spokesmodels. Who would have ever thought that a 64 year old woman would be the face of a well known l...

Mikhail Gorbachev :new face of Louis Vuitton
2007-08-02 11:43:00 Former communist leader Mikhail Gorbachev cashes in as the new face of Louis Vuitton He was once one of the world's most powerful men, going head-to-head with Ronald Reagan and the decadent West. Now, he's advertising luggage (although to be fair, it is upmarket luggage). Mikhail Gorbachev, the last leader of the Soviet Union, is appearing in an advert for Louis Vuitton travel bags. Mikhail Gorbachev is one of the stars of the new ad campaignIt might seem an odd choice for a Nobel Peace Prize winner who has a nice pension, bodyguardsand the right to live rent-free in a state residence of his choice. But this, it seems, is a special case. Or suitcase. Mr Gorbachev, 76, is giving all the proceeds of his modelling job to former U.S. vice president Al Gore's climate change campaign. In this picture for the campaign, taken by Annie Leibovitz, he is seen with the bag riding past the remains of the ultimate symbol of communism's collapse - the Berlin Wall. French actress Catheri...

The Odd Couple - Mikhail Gorbachev and Louis Vuitton
2007-07-30 09:13:00 I would never have imagined Mikhail Gorbachev appearing in a fashion campaign, even if it is only for a bag.The ad itself is beautifully shot by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz, and is extremely powerful visually.I am not a fan of the monogram Louis Vuitton bag because of the amount of fakes that flooded the market, which now make the bags look cheap and tacky. I would assume Louis Vuitton are aware of this and in an attempt to shake that image have put a man of great esteem, power and respectability in their ad.Clever.Sourcehttp://redcarpe-tfashionawards.blogspot.com/fee-ds/posts/default?alt=rss |
