Better gas mileage from a 2002 Chevy Trailblazer
2009-07-02 17:02:00
I just bought a 2002 Chevy Traiblazer, with a VorTech V6 (4.2l) and I love this truck. However, the gas mileage is poor. I'm thinking of putting a better intake on it, and a chip that will give me better off-the-line performance, and a few more ponies under the hood. Any suggestions?

Obama admin raises mileage rules to 42 MPG by 2016
2009-05-18 21:29:00
Follow the link to MSNBC for the full story: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/308-10514/  The Obama administration will Tuesday set the mileage requirements 30% higher by 2016. For the first time, greenhouse emissions standards will be directly linked to Federal standards for cars and trucks.   The plan also hopes to end litigation between the states and the Federal Government. The states had sought to inact their own rules, which would have resulted in multiple standards state-by-state across the country. Making meeting them much more challenging for automakers. There will be a single standard for the entire country to meet now.
Goodyear FuelMax Tires To Provide Better Fuel Mileage Without the Noise
2009-04-27 02:00:00
Even though the price of fuel has been relatively low over the past few months, many people are still looking for ways to improve their fuel mileage. One of the most common ways has been with the use of low rolling resistance tires. However, these come at the cost of performance and road noise, the latter being the more troublesome. Recently, Goodyear has released a newly designed low rolling resistance tire that promises the same increase in fuel economy, without the normal drawbacks.

mileage figures fudged?

Between the time mileage figures were calculated for the 2007 and 2008 model cars, there seems to have been a change in criteria resulting in the 2008 figures being less than actual. As a case in point, a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis is rated at 11 city and 16 higway, while the same virtually identic

Best Mileage Vehicles - Achieving 40 to 60 Miles Per Gallon By Dean Forster
2008-09-14 20:00:00
When cars and transportation began to be a major way of getting from place to place, was not a concern with the gas that it took to run a car. Now that individuals know more about the fuel economy, the environment and oil, there is the need to begin changing exactly how transportation works with cars. If you still want to use a car as a part of transportation, but want to do so effectively, you can start by getting the best mileage vehicles and comparing your options. This will allow you to make the most of the cars without having to lose your abilities to get to different points. The main concept to know about with getting better gas mileage is to understand how gas works in a car. When gas is put into a car, it will move into the engine of the vehicle and will burn. This burning will then allow the engine to move and will create a response from the car to go forward. This is done when the fuel turns into energy and propels the engine to turn. There are two types of engines that ar...
Gas Mileage Reimbursement Rates Applied To Businesses By Dean Forster
2008-08-31 12:10:00
As mentioned by the IRS, several business and the others due to a high gas prices may claim the increase of gas mileage reimbursement. As told by the tax agency, the optional universal rate to compute the deductible operating expenses for business vehicles will increase from 50.5 cents per mile to 58.5 cents for the next six months of 2008.The rate can also be applied to businesses and others that are entitled to reduction allowances that manage automobiles for medical, moving or charitable purposes. Increasing of gas prices is having a great impact on most Americans. According to Dough Shulman, the commissioner of Internal Revenue Service, the IRS is controlling the universal rates for mileage in order to reveal the actual cost of operating a car. He said that the agency, since 2005 has been monitoring the gas prices to guide the new rate so business establishments can do the midyear adjustments. The IRS also said that the rate for the computation of deductible moving or medical ex...

Better Mileage with a Half-Empty Gas Tank?

Best Gas Mileage Suv By Slavco Stefanoski
2008-06-08 08:05:00
If there's one thing I've noticed about technology, it's that cell phones continue to get smaller, but SUVs bigger. Why do you suppose this is? Now, I can grasp the handiness of a compact mobile phone, but why do sport utility vehicles have to be so large? Are American families really that big? Not from what I've seen. In fact, statistics show that the typical American family is shrinking. Folks aren't having as many children as they used to. Heck, who can afford it? Now, this brings me to gas mileage. Clearly some modern vehicles get terrible gas mileage. Most of them fit in the SUV category. Especially since no one can afford those German and Italian sports cars. So how do average middle class individuals and families afford such atrocious gas bills? I'm not so sure many of them can at this point. If that were the case, car companies wouldn't be coming out with more economical models such as the Rav-4 and Honda Element. I think people are now on the look-out for the best ga...

VW Jetta TDI falls short of anticipated mileage
2008-05-22 21:57:00
VW Jetta TDI falls short of anticipated mileage The U.S. EPA has released official fuel economy numbers for the Volkswagen Jetta TDI, which is a new entrant to the U.S. market for 2009. The car manages some very respectable numbers, but falls significantly short of Volkswagen's predictions for mileage. Earlier this year, Volkswagen said the TDI Jetta would deliver highway economy in the 50s and city milage in 40s. Some reports out of VW even indicated the car might be able to hit 60 mpg on the highway. But according to the new data released by the EPA, the TDI delivers 30 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway. The high cost of diesel fuel doesn't help the Jetta TDI's case either. With gas at $3.79 per gallon and diesel at $4.50, the latter is 19 percent more expensive. That means penny-for-penny, the TDI is equivalent to a gas car that delivers 33.6 mpg on the highway and 25.2 mpg in the city. It's possible the EPA has changed its testing methods even mo...

This is a great maneuver for the fledging used car guru!57 mpg? That's so 20 years agoWant to drive a cheap car that gets eye-popping mileage? In 1987 you could - and it wasn't even a hybrid. Peter Valdes-Dapena, CNNMoney.com staff writerNEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- Car makers are confident they can meet new government rules calling for a national fleet average of 35 miles per gallon. But it will take a big technological push, they say.You might wonder why, since twenty years ago the car that got the best mileage in the nation was a real techno-wimp compared to what's on the road today. It wasn't even a hybrid. But it got better fuel economy than any car sold now - even the Toyota Prius.Looking back at the 1987 Honda Civic CRX shows us why cars use so much more gas today and about the trade...

New PCS Mileage Rate

Sometimes things can just be downright confusing when we try to find our way across the country to that next PCS dream spot! Just like this little guy trying to decide which fork to take in the trail!Just as confusing are some of the government decisions on how much to pay us for PCS travel. With the current gas prices going towards $4 a gallon, the PCS mileage rate for your POV (privately owned vehicle) has gone down from $.20 a mile to $.19 a mile effective 1 January 2008. This is according to the latest information from the DoD Per Diem, Travel and Transportation Allowance Committee in a 17 March 2008 memo. According to the memo which I have linked below for your reading pleasure the GSA sets the mileage based on an IRS rate!
