2007-08-26 23:59:00 For the last twenty-three my nephew has been involved in the coast guard. From his beginning in the Coast Guard Academy, four years. Then his life changed, he got to cut his teeth small boat duty for a few years, then land duty for year, then back to ship duty for a few years to San Francisco. He was out on the left coast when the earth quake happened during the Oakland - Los Angeles Baseball World series. The high way that collapsed what is route in and out of the coast guard base. Everyday he would travel home about 5oclock, the day of the earthquake, he went home early to watch the World Series game. How lucky can you get. During the coast guard time, they allow him to take off a year with pay to get his master's degree, he has trained in Oracle database programming and management. It doesn't mean that they will oversee a more successful war effort. The armed forces aren't for everyone - and beyond that, it's not like the candidates forcibly make the decision for their children as to what their career path will be. Absurd to crucify a candidate because their children have chosen to pursue another vocation.
