2008-12-18 06:01:00
Deloitte announced the results of its third annual “The State of the Media Democracy” report today, and it is packed to the gills with all kinds of information about how people are consuming and interacting with video entertainment. Television remains the most impactful and influential advertising medium across all age groups, and watching television was the most preferred type of media for consumers as whole. Millennials were the exception with their media preferences scattered across TV, movies and the Internet; all were important to them. Pre-roll ads were considered more influential than overlay ads. Fewer people are willing to pay for content ...

Millennials: Downtrodden or Just Dumb?

"The landscape is changing before our eyes. Younger votersstruggling with the enormous costs of a college education, or trying toraise families in a bleak employment environment, or using their creditcards to cover everyday expenses like food or energy costs are not muchinterested in hearing that the government to which they pay taxes cando little or nothing to help them."Research shows that this is the most progressive generation indecades. We want nothing less than a new New Deal--and along withrebuilding the middle class, we're going to need a new WPA to rebuildour transportation and energy infrastructure in a post-fossil fuelworld. On the other hand, maybe a wholesale transformation of governmentand American seems too difficult or out of reach. Instead, you canindulge in a nice round of Blame the Victim.Ok, I'll be fair, I know a lot of "millenials" and some of them are pretty bright. However, just take a look at this sorry excuse:As a Millennial (born 1984), I ask; whose faul...

2007 Millennials Conference Interviews
2007-10-08 00:33:00
Interviews from this year's Millennials Conference, by Levi Shapiro. Their site spells out a compelling point that should not be lost on creatives as well as advertisers, namely; "By the year 2010, Millennials, born between 1982 and 2000, will outnumber both Baby Boomers and Gen-Xers and will be the most significant consumer sector for the media & entertainment industries". From a creative perspective one of the questions is how involved are mainstream companies and agencies with engaging these Millennials in the creative process as we are well out of that demo. It is fair to say my ideas are quite different then those of my nephew and perhaps I should have an ideation session with him.
