Text2MindMap Turns Indents into Ideas [Mind Mapping]
2008-05-30 15:10:00 You might have heard about the power of mind mapping from studious co-workers or, say, a certain blog, but never had the drive to jump in and start sketching. Text2MindMap, a free visualization web app, makes turning your ideas into node-based maps as easy as hitting Tab. Type or paste text into an input box, using indents to break up your ideas into categories, and then customize the font size, node colors, and more. When you’re done messing with your map, download it in JPEG format (interactive Flash downloads are said to be coming soon), and there’s no limit to how many you can create. Mind Mapping Your Dreams for Interpretation
2008-03-13 21:29:00 After posting several articles on dream interpretation and mind mapping your dreams, a commenter asked if I had an example of how I mind map my dreams. In this post you will see a jpg of a sample mind map I created using “Mindjet MindManager” software yet doing a Wikipedia search will yield some great hand drawn mind maps. As you look at the photo you can see that I try to explain each symbol all alone and emanating further out. Then I create an offshoot or a cloud off that symbol with what the meaning of the symbol is to me. From there you can see that as I dream I notice the same symbols or meanings come up over and over. Once I know a symbol or I know what a series of symbols means, I can associate them to other dreams down the line. Eventually you start to recognize the meanings quicker because you recognize the pattern. It’s not perfect, your meanings for a dream might change as you grow but the thread of meaning is always there. I use mind mapping to b...

World Memory Championships and Mind Mapping
2008-01-29 11:12:00 I saw an amazing TV programme called "The Mentalists" about the World Memory Championships 2007 held in Bahrain with two main competitors - Ben Pridmore from the UK and Dr Gunther Karsten from Germany, the latter winning. Ben won the World Memory Champion in 2004 in a ten-discipline competition. He also holds the official world record for memorizing the order of a randomly shuffled 52-card deck in 26.28 seconds. He beat the previous record by 5 seconds.Ben's world records to date:- 795 binary digits in 5 minutes - 3915 binary digits in 30 minutes - 99 historical dates in 5 minutes - 312 playing cards in 10 minutes - 1404 playing cards in an hour Ben Pridmore on WikipediaBen Pridmore's blog "Zoomy"The World Memory Championships have been running since 1991, the brainchild (sorry for the pun) of Tony Buzan. Apparently memory training is a skill open to anyone of average intelligence although such extreme levels are achieved only by blinkered determination and daily practice. For u...

Mind Mapping; A Valuable Tool
2007-11-01 13:16:00 What is Mind mapping? Mind mapping is method of brainstorming that uses visual cues for putting thoughts onto paper. This produces an easy to read result that is visual, fun, fast and creative. Many different ideas and unexpected connections can be easily drawn limiting words and increasing understanding. A picture, idea or central word is used to begin with, branches are then drawn out, free associations and other words are added as they appear in one's brain as they arise in the course of thinking about or studying the topic. From these nodes, further branches are drawn. This can create a web like image, ideas can further be linked via arrows - In a short period of time many connections can be drawn for a single word.

Mind Mapping your way to success
2007-09-30 05:41:00 I'm sure you all have heard of Mind Mapping! It's a wonderful tool for unleashing the creative genius within, and it's also a useful study tool. Although it was used for ages by notable thinkers like Da Vinci, the term “Mind Map’ was coined by Tony Buzan who has added some modifications to existing techniques. Mind Mapping is an easy and liberating experience, one that needs to be tried by you to feel the wild rush of excitement. Just like a classic scene at the shrink's office where the two of you play a game of free-association, this&nbs-p;form of brainstorming works in a similar manner. You start off with a central concept or idea and then branch off from there. Jot down all the associated items you can think off, and do the same for these subcategories/concepts. Within a short span of time you will have a large list of associated ideas on your Mind Map. You can draw your Mind Map on a single piece of paper or you can alternatively use one of...

Nursing Times and mind mapping: All my slides are packed, I'm ready to go..
2007-07-02 23:11:00 Well this Saturday I leave for the Society for Philosophy and Technology Conference in Charleston, SC. Still awaiting news regards funding with £200 gratefully received thus far.I'm really looking forward to this, not just being able to contribute, but listening to the other presentations. Must admit that after the weather here in the UK, warmer climes will be most welcome. The past weeks Nursing Times included a feature on mind mapping in research. I haven't checked the full paper, but in NT noticed two references to Buzan (1997 and 2003).I'm keen to differentiate h2cm from mind mapping, even though of course there are a lot of similarities.I wonder if Hodges' model gets a mention in the full paper? If not then of course other people realise h2cm isn't about mind mapping! The reason why I ask (beyond the obvious) is that for many people models of nursing are old-hat. When were they really in fashion? The 80s...When did Buzan's mind mapping arrive? I think 'Use your Head' air...
Writing Tools: Mind-Mapping
2007-06-19 19:41:00 When I have complex ideas to work through or no idea where to begin with a new project, I often try to sort things out with a mind map, that is, a diagram of the problem I am facing. I can do this with pen and paper, or pen and index cards, or even pen and sticky notes, but I prefer to use a mind-mapping application. On the computer I can move things around quickly, and I can experiment with different structures. I could do the same thing with index cards or sticky notes, but that requires a large working area, and I can't take the table or wall I'm using with me when I go to the office or library. My favorite mind-mapping tool is Incubator by MindCad, because it is easy to learn and use. The price is up to $50 now, but you might find it is worth every penny. There are also free mind-mapping applications, including the simple, but functional MyMind and the more feature-rich, but also more complicated FreeMind. Two popular commercial products are Inspiration and NovaMind, both of wh...

Mind Mapping Meister
2007-02-26 21:38:01 No, it’s not a new Hollywood million dollars budget movie, it’s about mindmeister.com, a new online mind mapping service. I was one of the lucky fellows who got an invitation - and it seems I was also among the first 1000 mindmeister users too. So, what is it, actually? Well, it’s a web-based, collaborative platform for better organizing, brainstorming and sharing your ides. Or, in fewer and more reliable words: it’s an online mind mapping service. It took me only one minute to start working with it. Seemed very easy to work with and very clean. You can start by creating a new map, and then branching it like in any other mind mapping application. One of my oldest projects - since I was a teenager that really liked Hemmigway - was to write a novel. Suddenly, once in the mindmeister site, all that come again into my mind. Look at the result: Of course, I am joking, I just want you to show how easy and quick this is. One feature I wasn’t able to test was...

2007-02-10 21:42:00 Mind mapping is a technique that organizes your thoughts and ideas into a visual map or diagram that is easier to process. It can be quite useful in brainstorming or problem solving, and some pastors, like Ed Young, use it to organize their sermons. If you would like to learn how to mind map, Innovation Network offers the following 8 easy steps to mind mapping. Center First Our linear, left-brain education system has taught us to start in the upper left-hand corner of a page. However, our mind focuses on the center ? so mind mapping begins with a word or image that symbolizes what you want to think about placed in the middle of the page. Lighten Up Mind mapping is simply a brain dumping process that helps stimulate new ideas and connections. Start with an open, playful attitude ? you can always get serious later. Free Associate As ideas emerge, print one or two word descriptions of the ideas on lines branching from the central focus. Allow the ideas to expand outward into branches ... |
