Big Brother Bubba's Ministry of Internet Facts
2011-05-18 19:00:00 -By Warner Todd Huston Bill Clinton wants the government to "correct" what you say on the Internet, folks. Should the government listen to the former panderer-in-chief, we'll go from Big Brother to Big Bubba on the ol' Internet tubes. Bubba is not happy with what he claims is the "misinformation" on the Internet and he wants the force of government to stop it all. Politico is reporting that Clinton makes the proposal in an upcoming CNBC interview saying, "It would be a legitimate thing to do." No, Bubba, it would not....
Indian Home Ministry Not Happy With Proposed BlackBerry Solution?
2010-11-23 08:50:00 Here we go again! In what could be another twist to the BlackBerry saga, the Home Ministry has written to the Department of Telecommunications expressing their dissatisfaction over a proposed solution to its BlackBerry Data Interception Demand. More specifically, this is to do with the web browsing and email solution that various service providers have demonstrated to the Home Ministry. The letter goes on to state that the proposed mechanism was not ‘user friendly’. According to the Home Ministry, the relevant intercepted data is embedded in a lot of junk data making it extremely hard to identify the useful content. Monitoring capabilities for BlackBerry Messenger services have been demonstrated by BSNL and Aircel, while those for BlackBerry Internet Service have been demonstrated by Idea Cellular. It also insisted that the service providers have both ‘BB Tool’ and ‘NDAS’ software installed as part of the final solution for the interception of BBM...

Home Ministry Asks DoT To Look Into Imported SIM Cards
2010-11-11 06:45:00 In yet another step by the Indian home ministry to tighten its grip on the technology and telecommunications company, they have asked Department of Telecom (DoT) to explore the feasibility of making it mandatory for local manufacturing of SIM cards used in mobile phones. This essentially means that imported SIM cards should not be used by telecom operators. Home Ministry has expressed concern that SIM cards are key security elements that are mobile and once issued to consumers remain outside the physical control of the service provider and/or the DoT. They are, therefore, prone to security threats. Once the encryption keys of any SIM cards are compromised, this remote access to the SIM card is a grave security threat as it can be used to trigger various attacks including denial of service, disclosure of location of subscriber, diverting and routing calls and so on. The Home Ministry has yet not banned imported SIM cards. It has only asked DoT to express its views on the issue. Anot...

HRD Ministry Joins Hands With UID Authority For Students In India
2010-10-28 07:08:00 HRD has been in the news off late, and mostly for good reasons. Unlike promising and failing to deliver as in the past, the ministry of Human Resources Development came good with the $35 tablet and recently issued a tender for the same. Now in another interesting and thoughtful move, HRD has teamed up with the UID authority to keep track of a student’s movement. Through this collaboration As per the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed, UIDAI will help keep a record of all students, right from kindergarten to graduation. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal hopes to have the unique identification numbers printed on everything from report cards, merit certificates to transfer certificates. HRD also plans to link education loans and scholarship to the students educational history. This will help employers as well in identifying a students original marklist, and thus his performance through the course of his education. The ministry will also put in place an institutional mechanism to e...

Home Ministry targets VPN Providers
2010-10-27 14:36:00 Home Ministry seems to be all set to strengthen its grips on the technology companies these days. After pestering RIM to the level of suggesting a ban on BlackBerry services to share access of data transfer through its devices, home ministry is now targeting Microsoft, Google, IBM and Oracle. These companies provide technology and services for the virtual private networks (VPNs) run by various operators in India. Home Ministry’s concerns Intelligence reports point out that vendors offer VPN services /technology that do not conform to government instructions. Home Ministry has asked DoT to issue VPN service providers and technology developers time bound notices to provide solutions for lawful interception of data encrypted by these technologies. Failure to do so could result in the termination of VPN services by operators using their technology. None of the four companies have commented on this issue till now. So, what is VPN? A virtual private network (VPN) is a computer network...

HRD Ministry Issues Tender For Rs 1,500-PC
2010-10-25 06:10:00 Our dream of producing a Rs. 1500 ($35) computing-cum-access device comes one step closer to reality as the ministry of human resource development (MHRD) has floated a tender for expression of interest (EoI). The ministry expects that after the successful field trial of 1, 00,000 pieces, the requirement may further grow to 10 million pieces within a year. The device which was unveiled in July 2010 is a part of the ambitious initiative of the Government to transform the classroom education across the country and help bridge the digital divide which the country faces today. Desired Functionalities and Specifications The list of minimum functionalities desired from the device is pretty impressive which include Support for video web Conferencing, Multimedia content viewer (.pdf, docx,.jpeg etc.), Media player capable of playing streamed as well as stored media files, Internet browsing, Wireless communication for Audio/video, Cloud computing option, Remote device management capability...

HRD Ministry Launches $35 Laptop – Will It Work?
2010-07-23 07:19:00 The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) has always come up with innovative ideas. At first, it announced the launch of $10 laptops which would have been great for students all over the country who could not afford a higher priced laptop. It was also an effort to compete with the $100 laptop that Nicholas Negroponte had come out with, a deal that the Government had rejected to begin with. Unfortunately, the $10 laptop was a big disappointment as it turned out to be more of an external storage device more than anything else. Earlier this year, the HRD Ministry tied up with Texas Instruments to get 3D education to schools, an initiative that has still to see daylight. But after giving such false hopes, the Ministry has finally come good with the launch of $35 laptops. How the idea fell into place This laptop which is to be available to all in 2011, is the result of efforts by the Ministry since some time now. They started talks with corporations only to be turned down. Howeve...

Ministry in Sharing
2009-01-30 06:32:00 I don't write much here anymore, because God has shown me that this blog is not my calling right now, but I wanted to share with you something that God has told me that I am to do for the glory of His name. I knew back when I started recovery for what I went through this past summer, that God would use my experiences to help others. I just didn't know how or when. Well, now I know. I was asked to share my testimony on video for the Women's Retreat coming up in March, and while much of the details are absent, the point is not in the details, but in Who and What got me through it, and why I am so much more at peace today than I was 6 months ago. (And my husband as well.) So, while I don't know what this will look like on video, here is the text of My Testimony concerning healing from infidelity and tuning the Lord out.For as long as I can remember, chaos has been my ?normal.? I grew up in a severely dysfunctional family, replete with abuse of every sort. As a result, my brain has ...

This ministry gets DOMESTIC ABUSE... YEAH GOD!
2008-08-11 13:26:00 I was doing some reading the other night, and came across a blog (love the theme and pictures by the way) called Lifetime Intimate Portrait. The author spoke about her church's ministry towards domestic violence, and how people might be surprised at whom shows up!At our church we now have a ministry in place to reach out to women who are dealing with these issues, or who have just come out of a situation. Help is completely confidential. We are committed to protecting these precious women at all costs. Interestingly enough, when the group was started we wondered how many we would have or if anyone in the church would respond. It is sad to report, but the statistics bear out and we have never had a lack of people in our support group ministry who need help along these lines. You might think your church is exempt, but...think again. You would be surprised who would attend a meeting if they could be certain no one would ever know! (We change our meeting times/dates each month to avoid...
Jesus Launches His Ministry
2008-08-09 08:43:00 I was reading in Luke 4 today, and I noticed something. I hadn't made this connection before. Any of us who've spent more than a few hours of their lives listening to oodles of sermons are familiar with the beginning of Jesus's ministry. Tempted, victorious, comes out of wilderness, enters synogogue, reads from Isaiah "God's on me, anointed to preach gospel to poor, release captives, give sight to blind, free the oppressed" (that's the short-hand version). And then, what does he talk about next? How God historically moved (through the prophetic ministries of Elijah and Elisha) on those outside of the community of the "chosen people of God," how God intervened on behalf of the "heathen."Verse 25: "But I say to you in truth, there were many widows in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came over all the land; and yet Elijah was sent to none of them, but only to Zarephath, in the land of Sidon, to a woman who w...

The Abishag Ministry of Worship
2008-06-02 14:13:00 The River Church Some of us may feel like we don’t have a very important place in the Body of Christ. We look around at others who seem to have great purpose, and we wonder, “God, why can’t I do great things for you?” Abishag might have felt like that. Her story is recorded in 1 Kings 1:1-4. In his old age, King David became feeble, and a young woman was sought to keep him warm and care for him. It doesn’t sound like the most exciting place to be. It was not a place of recognition, but a place of seclusion. Yet we read of Abishag, in verse 4, “And the young lady was very beautiful; and she cherished the king, and ministered to him….” We wouldn’t naturally think of her as being important, yet she is mentioned by name in the Bible. Most of David’s other wives’ names were only recorded in connection with the children they bore. Their place in the kingdom was recognized because of what they produced - t...

Indian Health Ministry Reports 16,000 Student Suicides In The Past Three Ye
2008-05-06 14:00:00 A representative of India’s Health Ministry has reported that over 16,000 school and college students in India have committed suicide in the last three years and announced plans to deal with the problem by reforming the national health care system. According to the ministry, there were 5,857 student suicides in 2006, 5,138 in 2005 and 5,610 in 2004. While some private schools have started providing counselors to address the problem, government-run schools have been slow to follow suit. Cherian Verghese, a specialist with the Indian branch of the World Health Organization, said: "The mental health system needs an overhaul. Our schools might be giving good education but we need education in life skills. From counseling to increasing the number of mental health workers, the strategy should be holistic. Students are a vulnerable group. Age, competition and relations in the family are all contributing to the growing cases of suicide among school goers”. "There is...
