HBO?s Hard Knocks is Finally Coming to Denver! sort of?
2008-05-08 14:00:00
It looks like HBO’s acclaimed football reality series Hard Knocks is coming back again this training camp. The bit of surprising news coming out this week is that the show is covering the Dallas Cowboys again for the second time in it’s short four seasons (three aired). How does this affect us Bronco ...
The Eagles Pick Quintin Demps With The 117th Pick
2008-04-28 10:23:00
This was the extra pick the Eagles got for trading down with the Vikings, and they used it very wisely in my opinion. Quintin Demps is a free safety from UTEP who has a great understanding of the game. He is not the fastest guy, but he is very smart, and is able to cover his ...
Eagles Trade Down Again
2008-04-27 01:32:00
UPDATE! Eagles Gain 4th In Trade With Vikings. The Eagles traded the 43d pick they acquired from the Panthers, dealt that and a fifth-round choice (152 overall) to the Minnesota Vikings. In return, the Eagles received the Vikings’ second pick, 47th overall, and an additional fourth-round pick, the 117th selection. The Eagles traded the 43rd pick overall to ...
Vikings Take Jared Allen out of the AFC West
2008-04-23 07:14:00
And for that, we give a hearty “Thank you,” Minnesota.  Jared Allen has moved on to greener pastures (and a much, much fatter wallet) after the Vikings struck a deal with KC for three 2008 draft picks.  They gave Kansas City the 17th overall selection, as well as their two third rounders (with one of ...
Jared Allen to the Minnesota Vikings: What that means for us.
2008-04-23 07:10:00
It only cost 31 million in guaranteed money, a first round draft pick, and two third round draft picks, but the Minnesota Vikings have traded for Kansas City Defensive End Jared Allen.    Specifically it was a 6-year, 74 million dollar deal, and the 17th, 73rd and 82nd picks.  Expensive, yes, but the Vikings get a 15 sack a year guy with thirty million reasons to play his tail off.  Even when the Chiefs were horrible last season, Jared Allen was a bright spot.   There were a few of us in Jaguars land (myself included) who thought that trading for Allen would be a good idea.  With the size of the deal, I'm pretty glad we didn't make him the highest paid player on the team.  Though not because he's a risk, I believe it when his Chiefs teammates say he's quit drinking: "I've seen Jared at a big party, out on the dance floor, where everybody is drinking except one person. It's Jared, and he's having the best time of everybody," said...

Thoughts on Jared Allen's possible trade to the Vikings
2008-04-18 07:30:00
Big news today as the Kansas City Chiefs have confirmed they are shopping star defensive end Jared Allen. The Vikings are thought to be one of the frontrunners - along with Tampa Bay and possibly Jacksonville.Of those teams, the Vikings have the highest first round pick to dangle in front of the Chiefs. And they have the greatest need for a sack specialist, so they should be willing to give the Chiefs what they want.It should be mentioned however, that Allen has a booze problem, notably two outstanding DUIs. This seems very contradictory for a team that Zygi Wilf is trying to assemble that is "accountable for it's actions" and trying to build up the team's character problems that surfaced around the "sex boat scandal". His problems with the law propose more problems than that though. He'd also have to be signed to a long-term deal for big money and would take up a lot of cap space and one more run-in with the law like that would result in AT LEAST a 4-game suspension (probably mo...
State of the Franchise: The Minnesota Vikings
2008-04-15 10:41:00
While the NFC East is easily recognizable as the most talented division in the NFC, one could make the case that the NFC North is the second. While the Packers surprised everyone and finished with the #2 seed in the NFC last year, the Vikings and Lions, who combined to win a total of nine games in

Breaking News: Patriots Sign Tank Williams
2008-03-05 23:00:00
The Minneapolis Star-Tribune is reporting that the New England Patriots have signed safety Tank Williams to a one-year deal. The contract terms were not disclosed. Williams played with the Minnesota Vikings for the past two seasons. He spent the first four years of his career in a Tennessee Titans uniform. I’d have to think that with this signing, the Patriots do not anticipate re-signing Eugene Wilson.

Minnesota Vikings Report Card 2007
2008-02-11 05:10:00
The Minnesota Vikings ended up 8-8 this season under coach Brad Childress’ second year. Over all, he is 14-18 for two seasons. And now it’s time report card time. I hope you all studied. QB - Grade - (F) Harsh indeed, but Tarvaris Jackson was not ready to run the team this year. Probably won’t ...
McNabb is Here to Stay
2008-02-07 12:53:00
It’s time to put an end to all of these rumors right now. Donovan McNabb is under contract with the Philadelphia Eagles, and will remain an Eagle for all of 2008. He will be under center week 1 in September. The fact is the Eagles believe they are close to winning a Championship. As crazy as ...

Who should the Minnesota Vikings next QB be?
2008-01-03 09:22:00
Although I'm not a Vikings fan, but since I do live in Vikings territory I've heard a lot of debating about who the Vikings QB should be next season. Now I have myself pondering the same thing.Any NFL fan, not just a Vikings fan can tell you that the Vikings need a new QB (WR as well). The Vikings haven't had a great QB for awhile and have relied heavily on some pathetic ones recently. Tarvaris Jackson just isn't getting it done right now and should not be the starter.Candidates:Tarvaris Jackson?I say give him a few more seasons to get used to the offense, the flow of the game, and gain more experience before starting. He'd be a good back-up for the Vikes.Donovan McNabb?Seems like a good fit. But how would the his hometown Chicago Bears fans take it? When Donovan is healthy he is one of the best and most accurate arms in the NFL. He can find the open receiver, run out of the pocket, and lead the Vikes deep into the playoffs, especially if they find a good WR too. But he is inju...

OPEN THREAD: Redskins @ Minnesota Vikings
2007-12-23 17:40:00
Update by ZK at 4:16pm Sunday...Eagles 38, Saints 23 (F)Redskins officially control their own destiny! Thanks to the Eagles' inspired play over the Saints, the Redskins will make the playoffs if they win out.The importance of winning this game cannot be stressed enough as all roads to the playoff run through victory in Minnesota. Gameday info is here and kickoff is set for 8:15PM Eastern. The world will be watching. Since I'm such an awesome weatherman: low is 6 degrees with snow approaching certainty at 70%. The sun will be going down around four hours before kickoff. But none of that matters, because the cowardly Vikings play in a dome. Make sure to stop by: My blogging amigo at Daily Norseman and The Curly R (he has a 5 questions up with a Vikings blogger). Ever reliable, Lee Gibbons has up his FYI for the game. Gibbs is 8-1 against the Vikings. Childress has never lost to the Redskins. Something must give. Both teams come off impressive wins, us against the Giants 22-10, the...

Green Bay Packers Beat Minnesota Vikings - Surprising Performance
2007-11-12 21:09:00
I must admit how surprised I am that the Mike McCarthy-led Green Bay Packers are doing so well. I'll have to review the growth of the Packers coach. Running the showBalance roughs up, blanks border foeBy BOB McGINNbmcginn@journalsentinel.c-omPosted: Nov. 11, 2007Green Bay - Eleven years ago, when the Green Bay Packers were kicking butt and taking names en route to Super Bowl glory, they spanked the playoff-bound Minnesota Vikings, 38-10, in a display of dominating football at Lambeau Field that still can be remembered vividly for its utter ferocity.Ever since then, the Vikings always showed up at Lambeau in a foul mood, often played over their heads and generally raised holy hell against anyone wearing dark green and gold.On Sunday, another Green Bay-Minnesota game was played in the National Football League's smallest city, where the home team once again has realistic Super Bowl aspirations. And this time, with eerie parallels to the game in 1996, the Packers buried the Vikings...
Adrian Peterson Has Torn Ligament After Packers Game - ESPN
2007-11-12 20:15:00
Record-setting Vikings back has ligament injury in kneeESPN.com news servicesEDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. -- Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson will miss Sunday's game against Oakland Raiders with a torn ligament in his right knee, coach Brad Childress said Monday.Childress said Peterson tore his lateral collateral ligament in the Vikings' 34-0 loss to Green Bay. Peterson will not require surgery, Childress said."The good news is that the knee is otherwise stable and the injury is isolated to that ligament," Childress said. "I'm told that's a good healing ligament."Childress said this is not a season-ending injury, but he did not talk about when Peterson might be back.Peterson was hurt just a week after he set an NFL single-game rushing record with 296 yards in a victory over San Diego.Peterson wasn't even sure who tackled him late in the third quarter of Sunday's 34-0 loss to Green Bay. After an 11-yard catch on a screen, he was hit by Packers cornerback Al Harris and went...
The Idiot File: The Minnesota Vikings Organization...
2007-11-10 01:45:00
Ok, this is usually a baseball blog, but I found about this listening to the "Mike & Mike" radio show on may to work in my car, and I was beyond pissed off. The Minnesota Vikings have fined wide receiver Troy Williamson a game's pay (a little over $25,000) for missing last Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers to attend the Monday funeral of his maternal grandmother. I love this excuse, as you have to read what head coach Brad Childress had to say about the situation (From ESPN):Coach Brad Childress told Twin Cities-area media following Thursday's practice that the decision was on a "business principle" of the Vikings organization."He had a family obligation that he had to see to," Childress said. "We sat down and talked on it before he left. ... He had to do what he had to do. Everybody handles that differently. [Williamson] had to do what his family situation called for."Childress cited the cases of two players, Minnesota defensive tackle Pat Williams and Indianapolis wi...

Neckbeard Returns
2007-11-07 02:26:00
The Vikings have settled on a veteran quarterback, but it?s not St. Paul native Chris Weinke.Former Eagles quarterback Koy Detmer, who along with Weinke worked out for the Vikings today at Winter Park, agreed to a contract. Detmer will serve as veteran insurance if Tarvaris Jackson and Kelly Holcomb are unable to go because of injuries. If that?s the case Brooks Bollinger will get the start. Jackson suffered a concussion Sunday against San Diego and is still undergoing tests. Holcomb, meanwhile, is recovering from a neck injury.Detmer is familiar with the Vikings system, having played under coach Brad Childress when Childress was the offensvie coordinator with the Eagles.Detmer, 34, spent 10 seasons with Philadelphia after playing college football at Colorado. Detmer mainly served as Donovan McNabb?s backup and as a holder for kicker David Akers during his time with the Eagles.>>AccessVikingsHow Koy has survived in the NFL all these years is beyond me.
Fines handed down on Eagles
2007-11-04 02:35:00
The Philadelphia Eagles' 23-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday afternoon has come with a price tag attached to it.Literally.Three Eagles defenders, including one who was waived the day after the game, have been fined a total of $20,000 by the league for their overaggressive play in the win. In addition, one Minnesota player has been sanctioned.Eagles defensive end Juqua Thomas and former linebacker Matt McCoy were each fined $7,500. McCoy will be liable for the fine, a league spokesman said, even though the Eagles released him Monday afternoon. Philadelphia free safety Quintin Mikell and Minnesota middle linebacker E.J. Henderson were penalized $5,000 apiece.Thomas was fined for a third-quarter play on which he sacked Vikings' quarterback Kelly Holcomb for an 11-yard loss but grabbed his facemask and pulled him down. Despite the fact Holcomb suffered a neck injury that knocked him out of the game, and has sidelined him for this week, Thomas was not penalized by game...

Eagles Beat Vikings 23-16
2007-10-29 01:34:00
A Win is a Win:This was not a dominating performance, or a very convincing win by any means. In the end though all that matters is that the Eagles leave Minnesota with a W. They have let a few of those get away this year, and this was a much needed win. At the end of the year nobody asks who you beat, or how bad you beat them, they just ask how many games did you win. At this point the Eagles will take them any way they can get them.Red Zone Improves:The Eagles are scoring touch downs believe it or not.The offense was not great, but much improved in the red zone. Some creative play calling helped out.I loved the shovel pass to Westbrook. They play had great design, and it worked perfectly. Jason Avant lined up in the backfield between Westbrook, and Tapeh. Then Avant motioned to the slot, bringing the Vikings MLB with him. McNabb sold the fake very well, and Westbrook just waltzed into the end zone. Plays that are designed that well, usually tend to work. Give a lot of credit to And...
Vikings Preview
2007-10-27 11:34:00
Must Win?:This has been said a lot so far this year. This term gets thrown around a lot, but really a game is never a must win, unless it eliminates you from contention. If the Eagles want to be serious about possibly making the playoffs, then almost every remaining game is a must win. You figure they have to go 7-3 during the remaining ten to do so. Is this possible? Yes it really is. The Birds have to stop stalling in the red zone, and stop giving games away they should have won. Minnesota is a team that a good team should beat.Birds Improved Run D Gets Major Test:One positive of this Eagles season, is the improvements to the defensive front. A run defense that was considered the teams weakness, is now one of the teams strength. Brodrick Bunkley, Takeo Spikes, Omar Gaither, and Chris Gocong are all new starters. They are a huge reason for the run defense being much better. Trent Cole emerging as a premier DE, Jevon Kearse being healthy, and the improved play of Mike Patterson are ...

Can We Give The Rookie Of The Year To Adrian Peterson Early?
2007-10-15 07:09:00
Without a doubt, Adrian Peterson has stuck out head and shoulders above the rest of the the rookie class of 2007. While Marshawn Lynch has done great in Buffalo with his rough style, Peterson is completely blowing defenses out of the water. Adrian is doing what Reggie Bush was supposed to do last year. Like ...
A Letter To: Vikings Fans Everywhere
2007-09-30 13:58:00
Dear Vikings fans both friends and mostly foes,In my opinion, it's not really a matter of if Brett Favre breaks Dan Marino's all-time TD record against you. It's more of a when he breaks the record against you this Sunday. I really wanted to see Favre break the record, however, to see him do it in the Metrodome will be strangely awesome.I'm also a little afraid. I ask you to reach down underneath that itchy, ugly, purple jersey you're wearing and dig deep down into your heart Sunday. I ask you that you please not boo Brett Favre when he breaks the record. While I don't see how anyone who loves football could not love Brett Favre, I however (living in ND) understand that Vikings' fans are particularly unfond of number 4.Please break the mold this weekend. I've always thought of Vikings fans to be rather rude, bitter, and nonclassy. Maybe that's because of personal experience, maybe it's because I'm a Packers fan. I don't know, I'm not a doctor. What I do know, however, is...

Favre receives criticism
2007-07-16 16:02:00
In the days leading up to the start of NFL training camps around the country, many websites are ranking position units around the league and Green Bay Packers quarterback Brett Favre is receiving a lot of criticism.Fox Sports ranks the Packers as the NFL's 16th best quarterback unit in the NFL including backups Aaron Rodgers, Ingle Martin and Paul Thompson. However, writer Mike Tanier seems to be a little uninformed on one of the best quarterbacks in NFL history.According to Tanier, "You know when you are over the hill: it's when your mind makes a promise that your body can't fill. Favre sees the coverage converging, thinks back to 1996, and truly believes he can rifle the ball to his receiver before the safeties arrive. Unfortunately, his release is a bit slower and his fastball a few degrees cooler, so 1990s touchdowns have become new millennium interceptions."It's hard to gauge whether Tanier has actually watched the Packers lately. Are his opinions based purely upon conjectu...
A Viking's take on the Packers
2007-07-12 23:49:00
Well, here is Railbird Central's first real sports related interview, with Complete Sports Blogger and Minnesota Vikings fan Jon Reed. No that isn't him in the picture.1. Toward the end of the season, the Packers' offense greatly improved. Now, offensive coordinator Jeff Jagodzinski has left to become the Head Coach at Boston College. How much will his departure hurt the Packers' offensive developement?Well I think the fact that they promoted within with Joe Philbin should help. They have a lot of young pieces on offense (especially on the Line) and the ability to maintain some sense of continuity should help. So I think there is always a learning curve when a new coordinator comes in (which has been painfully obvious to me as a Vikings fan), but the fact that they kept it in house should help.2. Should Brett Favre have retired? He's only 37, but some believe that his time has passed. What's your take?In all honesty, I thought the should have retired before last season. Let me...

Vikings use Packers to increase ticket sales
2007-07-05 18:07:00
The Minnesota Vikings are using the Green Bay Packers to help increase ticket sales for a preseason game that fans would otherwise be reluctant to buy.The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel's Bob Wolfley writes, "Fans who buy tickets to the Vikings' home game against Green Bay on Sept. 30 will be required to buy tickets for an exhibition game against the St. Louis Rams."The Vikings are requiring fans also buy tickets to another preseason game against the Dallas Cowboys in order to get tickets for the regular season game versus the Chicago Bears.

SBNation Mock Draft Pick #7 -- Minnesota Vikings
2007-04-02 19:11:00
With the seventh pick of the 2007 SBNation Mock NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select.... Adrian Peterson, RB -- Oklahoma Sometimes you just have to get a guy when he's available.  A guy that most think will be a big-time star, a franchise-changer perhaps.  The Vikings did just that grabbing Peterson.  The only problem is, the Vikings desperately need a quarterback, and decided on Peterson even though Brady Quinn is still stting on the board.  There is no doubting Peterson's talent, however, and despite some injury issues was able to become the top rusher in Oklahoma history.  On the fast-track in the Metrodome Peterson should put up big numbers, unless of course opponents decide to stuff the box with 10 defenders because the Vikings have no passing game. The Atlanta Falcons are on the clock.... PHOTO COURTESY
