The Minnesota Vikings have fined wide receiver Troy Williamson a game's pay (a little over $25,000) for missing last Sunday's game against the San Diego Chargers to attend the Monday funeral of his maternal grandmother. I love this excuse, as you have to read what head coach Brad Childress had to say about the situation (From ESPN):Coach Brad Childress told Twin Cities-area media following Thursday's practice that the decision was on a "business principle" of the Vikings organization."He had a family obligation that he had to see to," Childress said. "We sat down and talked on it before he left. ... He had to do what he had to do. Everybody handles that differently. Detmer will serve as veteran insurance if Tarvaris Jackson and Kelly Holcomb are unable to go because of injuries.If that?s the case Brooks Bollinger will get the start. Jackson suffered a concussion Sunday against San Diego and is still undergoing tests. 2007-11-04 02:35:00 The Philadelphia Eagles' 23-16 victory over the Minnesota Vikings last Sunday afternoon has come with a price tag attached to it.Literally.Three Eagles defenders, including one who was waived the day after the game, have been fined a total of $20,000 by the league for their overaggressive play in the win. In addition, one Minnesota player has been sanctioned.Eagles defensive end Juqua Thomas and former linebacker Matt McCoy were each fined $7,500. McCoy will be liable for the fine, a league spokesman said, even though the Eagles released him Monday afternoon. Philadelphia free safety Quintin Mikell and Minnesota middle linebacker E.J. Henderson were penalized $5,000 apiece.Thomas was fined for a third-quarter play on which he sacked Vikings' quarterback Kelly Holcomb for an 11-yard loss but grabbed his facemask and pulled him down. 2007-10-29 01:34:00 A Win is a Win:This was not a dominating performance, or a very convincing win by any means. In the end though all that matters is that the Eagles leave Minnesota with a W. They have let a few of those get away this year, and this was a much needed win. At the end of the year nobody asks who you beat, or how bad you beat them, they just ask how many games did you win. At this point the Eagles will take them any way they can get them.Red Zone Improves:The Eagles are scoring touch downs believe it or not.The offense was not great, but much improved in the red zone. Some creative play calling helped out.I loved the shovel pass to Westbrook. They play had great design, and it worked perfectly. Jason Avant lined up in the backfield between Westbrook, and Tapeh. Then Avant motioned to the slot, bringing the Vikings MLB with him. McNabb sold the fake very well, and Westbrook just waltzed into the end zone.
