Minnetonka Gopher Bassmaster Club Tournaments
2009-09-04 03:19:00
This past weekend we had our last two regular season club tournaments on Lake Minnetonka, we fished the West side on Saturday and the East on Sunday as two separate events.  There were quite a few things on the line this weekend.  I was in the final four for our Match Championship, I was leading the Angler of Year by a tiny margin and in position to be our State Team Captain and guaranteed boater next September at the MNBFN TOC on Lake Minnetonka. On day 1, I had practiced one day the previous weekend and tried to find some deeper fish on the west side with my partner Henry.  We caught some fish, but nothing consistent, big or schooled.  With the mostly unproductive practice and my limited knowledge of that side of the lake, I decided to stick to my strength and fish shallow with a jig for the majority of the day.  I caught about 15 keepers, one on a black Secret Weapon Lure Buzzbait and the rest all came on various 3/8oz and 1/2oz Tru-Tungsten jigs flip...
Foreclosure?s Black Hands Over Minnetonka City
2008-12-04 15:48:00
The city of Minnetonka like other states and cities of US are also suffering from the problem of home foreclosures. For over two years the rate of home foreclosures has continued to increase in this city. However, the number in 2008 has gone quite high. Still, the real estate and financial crisis has not affected ...
Lake Minnetonka - Bassmasters Weekend Series Tournament #5 - Sept 27-28th,
2008-10-06 03:51:00
Well the final two day event of the MN Bassmaster Weekend Series was finally upon us.  I was able to get out on the lake one last time the Wednesday before for about 7 hours.  Spent most of that time check some deeper rock areas and a few weedlines and flipping milfoil, none of which produced.  Found a few new docks holding fish, but they were not close to my other areas, so who knew if I would get to them.I drew boat #32 out of 36 and Mark was my partner.  I did not really care about my draw, because it would not effect where I would start.  Mark & I spent the morning working shallow milfoil, pads, sea walls & docks in the Excelsior area of the lake not far from Maynard where we took off from.  Things started slow for me.  Mark was able to get a quick keeper on a black spinnerbait.  I had a few bites early, but they must have been short striking my offerings, as I never hooked up.  About an hour & a half in, I was swimmi...
Lake Minnetonka - Club Tournament #6 - July 27, 2008

Well Rick Taft and I hit the water launching out of Gray's bay hoping to turn Saturday's performance around.  I started on my favorite weedline in Wayzata Bay.  It only took me about 5 casts to lose a 1/2oz TT Jig to a toothy predator.  I then picked up my trusty bluegill Vixen topwater and started working over the top of the Milfoil.  About 10 casts later a nice bass crushed it, I finally dragged it out of the milfoil and it was a nice 3lb plus bass.  Way better start to today then yesterday   We continued to work this area on top and the deep edge, only to come up empty handed.  We then headed to where I had caught a 3lb bass late in the day yesterday, I managed to pick up a small keeper there on soft plastics, but that was it, a little disappointed. The next area I wanted to hit had a boat on it, so we fished a few boat docks and I ended up getting 3 more small keepers on a 3/8oz Texas Craw Tru-Tungsten Jig, but nothing to brag about.  We ...
Lake Minnetonka - Club Tournament #5 - July 26, 2008
2008-09-05 12:32:00
Saturday morning was Gopher Bassmasters 5th tournament out of 8 this year.  We launched out of Maxwell bay public ramp on famed Lake Minnetonka.  Minnetonka is an interesting lake for me, I know its one of the best bass fisheries in the world, yet i rarely make it out there.  It really seems unless I have a tournament out there, which is rarely, I don't venture out that way.  I really did not practice for this tournament, other then a guide trip that i had back on July 4th.My partner was David Larsen and this was his first time even on Tonka, so I was kind of winging it and kind of fishing on a few distant memories for this club tournament.  We decided to start on a set of marina docks, this place has a history of giving up some big bites, but all we caught were a few barely legals and shorts there.  I threw back 2 or 3 fish that were probably keepers that I did not want to waste time culling later and David boxed one small keeper there on a Ring Fry.&...

I have two club tournaments this weekend on Minnetonka, Saturday we launch from the west side and the east side on Sunday.  I have been not been out on Tonka since July 4th and before that it was probably May last year.  It will be interesting as neither of my partners have been out there, so we will just have to wing it a bit.  I am hoping to do well enough this weekend to lock up a spot on next year's State TOC team without fishing the last two club tournaments on Pokegama.  Look for tournaments report early next week!Last Sunday I spent some time on Pokegama, fished all new water, caught a few nice fish, not sure it is anything I will use in the Weekend Series tournament, so hind sight, I wish I would have went to Tonka that day instead.  If you have not been to Bass Fishing the Midwest to check out my Podcast, you can now listen to it here. Also, feel free to go back and visit my other two podcasts:Rich Lindgren on Outdoors This WeekCatch'N.com Radio In...

Bass Opener on Minnetonka

Well, the plan was to hang sheet rock all weekend, but my buddies inspection did not pass, so I quickly made plans to hit the water to do some bass fishing Couple of my fellow Gopher club members are fishing the Denny's tournament today and had invited me to go prefishing with them, so on Saturday morning I hopped into the Ranger with the Brant Boys.  I started the morning tossing a 6" Optimum suspending swimbait over the milfoil & cabbage while they fished docks.  I had a good fish on for a split second, but never got to see it, not sure if it was a muskie, bass or pike.We fished everything from 1ft to 15ft, our best fish came relatively shallow on inside weedlines, throwing soft plastics and finesse jigs tipped with smallie beavers.  I caught most of my fish pitchin' a regular Watermelon Green Pumpkin Sweet Beaver rigged with a color matched 1/8oz. Tru-Tungsten sinker, force bead & smart peg. Based on what I saw, I would say that&n...
Lake Minnetonka - Bassmasters Weekend Series Tournament #4 -
2006-09-26 21:33:03
Got back late at night from my Northern Regional Tournament, so I did not get out on Tonka until almost noon and I had to be off the lake by 5pm to make the registration.  I practiced with John, who is in my bass club and fishes the weekend series as a non-boater.  Spent most of that time in Grays & Libby, not much for fish or size, basically wrote that area off and that was pretty much the practice.  Not real excited about the tournament after that.  Went to the meeting and got a third flight boat position and drew a another buddy of mine John Egbert as a non-boater.Sunday morning was warmer than I expected, but also windier.  I ran up to a point in Wayzata which was my only deep spot I had confidence in.  There was a boat sitting on the inside turn where I wanted to go, so we started out towards the end of the face and worked in.  About 15 minutes in I whacked a really nice bass, turned out to be my big fish, (4-10) on a 1/2oz Tru-Tungst...

Lake Minnetonka Weekend Series Early Practice #3
2006-08-28 18:30:30
My father and I spent Saturday on Tonka from about 7am-2pm.  It was foggy, so we spent most of the morning in Wayzata as visibility was poor at best.  We each caught fish on plastics on a weed hump, but they were just small keepers.  We bounced around trying to find some deep fish and trying to avoid sail boats.  We did find one weed point they had some quality 2-4 lb fish on it, we caught them on a Motoroil Berkley Bungee Worm  Worm on a 1/8oz Tru-Tungsten IBall Buster finesse jig and a 3/8oz Texas Craw Tru-Tungsten Jig paired with a Green Pumpkin Zoom Super Chunk.Click on Images for more detailsWe then fished a few docks, caught some small fish on the jig and then checked three more deep spots with limited success.  Boat traffic was getting bad, so we decided to call it a day.  It was nice to find at least one deep area that was holding the right quality of fish.  A lot can chance in 3 weeks...Sunday I fished a Jr. Club tourney on Clear...
