Chandrayaan mission terminated
2009-09-07 21:40:00 A senior official at the Indian Space Research Organisation has candidly admitted that scientists miscalculated the temperature of the moon, which led to the early termination of the Chandrayaan-I mission last month.Dr T K Alex, director, ISRO Satellite Centre, Bengaluru [ Images ], said: "We assumed that the temperature at 100km above the Moon's [ Images ] surface would be around 75 degrees Celsius. However, it was more than 75 degrees and problems started to surface. We had to raise the orbit to 200km."In May, ISRO said it had raised Chandrayaan's [ Images ] orbit to 'enable further studies on orbit perturbations, gravitational field variation of the Moon and also enable imaging of the lunar surface with a wider swath'.It now transpires that heating problems on the craft had begun as early as November 25, 2008, forcing ISRO to deactivate some of the payloads -- there were 11 in all.As a result, some of the experiments could not be carried out which raised questions on whether ...

Mission Accomplished: CHUCK Renewed!
2009-05-18 04:20:00 Mission Accomplished CHUCK Fans, your show has been saved. Or at least that is what EW’s Michael Ausiello, The Live Feed, Variety and TV MoJoe are all reporting until NBC makes it official at its UpFront event on May 19. But before you head on out to your local Subway for a celebratory Five Dollar Footlong, we should probably warn you, there’s a catch. The 13-episode pickup was contingent on Warner Bros. (the studio that produces CHUCK) agreeing to make some sizable budget cuts. Cuts which may-or-may-not include at least one cast member getting the proverbial pink slip, two staff writers definitely being show the door, and less episodes for some of your favorite supporting players (Jeffster! Big Mike! Anna! Gulp!) All of which naturally raise three big (or in keeping with the theme of this post, foot long) questions: 1) Is less CHUCK in every sense of the word — from number of episodes, budget, production value and characters — better than no CHUCK at all? 2) If t...

2008-09-16 04:12:00 I have been put out of commission for a little while, which is why I haven't visited too many of your blogs lately, for which I am very sorry. I'm not sure when I'll get the urge to put a new post up again, though it shouldn't be too long (that's what she said). And speaking of urges, enjoy this repost about non-working toilets. I got all flushed just writing about it...Space travel can be pretty serious and life threatening stuff. After all, if we had been meant to be space dwellers, we would have been born there. Wow, that may have been the dumbest thing I have ever written. Well, not counting the proposal I turned in at work once that had errors I put in it just to see if they would be found, because that was a whole different kind of dumb, as in I really thought I?d get away with it but didn?t and am lucky to still have a job.It seems that our interstellar gamble with space travel has come back to bite us (in the rear) again. Yep, while taking Lucy and Ethel to school th...

Mission Impossible 2: Morph
2008-08-11 19:05:00 Hugh Halter and Matt Smay, authors of "The Tangible Kingdom" are just crazy enough to take on mission impossible. Here's the mission, if you choose to accept it. (Well, here's a description of their training that is geared toward traditional churches):Morph: Empowering existing church leaders to move churches into mission.Thousands of leaders desire to experience missional and incarnational life in church. Thousands of leaders are ready to retool and reform their congregation. Thousands of leaders want to recover God?s heart for their city. They?re tired of the office, tired of only ministering to Christians, drained from running programs, frustrated with losing their best young leaders, and ready to break free from institutional constraints. With the right tools, revival and redirection are possible. Morph is coaching and connecting leaders around the world through annual intensives and online networking. When you get involved with Morph, you will: * Find friends ? leaders who ...

Mission Impossible
2008-08-11 05:23:00 I'm starting to realize that there are more than a few pastors in traditional institutional churches that would like to make a transition. Their desire is to teach people to live truly missional lives (as the expression of their Christianity - as the manifestation of their Christ-following) rather than assuming the consumption of religious services is the highest expression of their Christianity, or Christ-following. How do you make this transition? People who have grown accustomed to going to worship "services" where services are rendered to them for their consumption (music provided for a nice "worship experience" and study and research completed for them in the sermon preparation and delivery)... how do you convince these fine folks that this isn't Christianity? That actually, Christianity is active and not consumer-oriented. How do you train them to study the word for themselves, to befriend their neighbors, to gain the ability to worship without depending on someone to creat...
