State of Missouri Wants to Ban Children from Participating in Cage Fighting
2008-04-04 21:45:00 I don't have a problem with children (or adults for that matter) learning how to protect themselves using martial arts or boxing for self-defense purposes as long as it is being done under strict supervision via these classes and all proper safety precautions are being followed by everybody involved. What I DO have a problem with is adults encouraging children to fight with one another inside of these cages and charging money to see them hurt one another in the name of entertainment/competitive sport. All this is succeeding in doing is sending a negative message to our still easily influenced young people that violence is fun...a game...a sport...an entertainment when it is nothing more than the human equivalent of cock fighting and bull fighting. It is bad enough that adults persist in engaging in boxing and wrestling for their so called "sport" as it is, but to involve children into this is in my opinion, nothing more than child abuse. My best wishes to Republican state Reps. ...

Missouri lawmaker wants mandated suspensions for pro steroid users
2008-04-01 06:43:00 A Missouri lawmaker says he wants the state's professional teams to automatically supend jucing athletes, or else face tax consequences. KWMU with the story: JEFFERSON CITY, MO (2008-03-31) A St. Louis area lawmaker plans to file legislation that, if passed, could make it harder for the Cardinals, Rams and other Missouri sports teams to get tax breaks. State Representative Jeff Roorda (Dem, Barnhart) says his bill would bar franchises from receiving state tax credits if they don't suspend players caught using anabolic steroids for at least one year. "This bill attempts to send a message to Major League Baseball and to all other professional sports leagues that if they want to continue to ignore the problem that they have with steroids, that we're not going to continue to underwrite their activities with tax dollars," Roorda said. Roorda gave that comment to KWMU while leaving Busch Stadium, following what turned out to be the Cardinals' opening day rain-out.In...

Missouri Ron Paul Delegates Shake Things Up At The Caucus
2008-03-27 20:40:00 Ron Paul supporters across Missouri - who held their caucus this month - aren't content with settling for the GOP's favorite, Senator John McCain. Though Missouri's state Republican Party rules require the national delegates to vote for the presumptive nominee McCain, and Paul came in fourth at MO's Feb. 5th primary, some Missouri Republicans are not okay with that. And it doesn't matter to them where Paul placed in the lineup: it's the principle, they say.

New biodiesel laws in Missouri and South Dakota
2008-03-14 19:58:00 Photo by Skidrd. Licensed under Creative Commons license 2.0.Two small updates today on the status of biodiesel in the U.S. First, Missouri is looking at setting a biodiesel mandate of five percent, which could match the highest biodiesel mandate in the country. New Mexico will be B5 by 2012 and four other states have B2 mandates. The Missouri bill passed the first preliminary approval hurdle this week and now needs to be voted on in the state House and Senate before moving forward.Meanwhile, in South Dakota, the Governor has signed into law a piece of legislation that drops the tax on diesel fuel by two cents a gallon if it contains at least five percent biodiesel blended in. But don't start counting your pennies just yet; the law only kicks in once South Dakota can make at least 20 million gallons of the biofuel a year.[Source: AP, Energy Current]
