May 2008 - Income, Networth, Cashback Review
2008-05-29 13:31:00
Bittersweet month here. A large chunk of the debt reduction funds came from the economic stimulus check. Having that extra money encouraged me to spend more - even though I tried hard to fight it! When did I become a typical consumer, susceptible to the same old boring mass psychology as the rest of America? Grrr. Since I make most purchases on credit for the rewards, we won't really see the impact until next month. I'll be able to pay my balances in full, but there will not be much leftover next month.Good news is that I am down below $7500 debt to be paid. Thats over 61% paid so far! Now if I can only get back into good habits I just might pay it off before January. Here are the rest of the numbers in this month's monthly review...May ChallengeGoal: $400 Additional IncomeActual: $482.61 I rocked my extra income goal this month. This is largely from tutor.com. I spend just about every morning waiting to help kids with algebra. I don't mind it... as long as I get my c...
Monthly Review - March 2008
2008-04-02 13:08:00
March was a busy month for me. Put in a lot of time at work followed by some much needed rest, relaxation, and catching up with good friends. My income wasn't quite where I wanted it to be, but my income tax return helped make it a great month. Here are the numbers...March ChallengeGoal: $400 Additional IncomeActual: $269.58I thought about counting my income tax here, but then I'd probably have to subtract it every other month of the year, right? I didn't meet my goal this month, but I have a feeling the extra work I put in over the last month will translate into a raise this month at my review. A 4% raise would translate into over a hundred dollars a month added to my budget for here on out. Plus even more into my 401k once I start getting matched funds in June. Not to mention, if this project brings in funding, it will be a nice bonus. In my opinion, its worth it.Here's the complete list:Money Makin' (Extra Income)$158.13 Tutoring$3.85 From Prosper Loans$28.60 Sprint...
TIM Monthly Review: Beware The Ides Of March Or Learn To Short Sell!
2008-04-01 20:33:00
March was damn good to me, earned 8.63% , helping extend my lead as the top ranked guy on Covestor. These kinds of returns warm my belly, especially when so many mainstream allegedly “safe strategies” are getting absolutely crushed. TIM’s return since inception in November 2007 now stands at 40%, compared to a -14% return for the “safe and diversified” S&P 500. Total annihilation. Sweeeet! Yes, I’m just playing with a tiny chunk of change and taking on some risk–welcome to the lives of most investors/traders! For all my continued success, those of you frequent readers or who’ve seen my instructional DVD PennyStocking know my trading has been highly flawed…as it has been for the past decade…meaning I made millions even while making tons of mistakes…meaning you can take my theories and do better…you should do better. So let people knock penny stocks, assuming they’re “akin to gambling” and let them knock me, assuming I “got luck...

Monthly Review - February 2008
2008-03-03 19:38:00
February ChallengeGoal: $400 Additional IncomeActual: $432.28I met my goal to make an additional $400 this month with very little work on my part. Thats lucky for me because I had very little time to focus on bringing it in this past month. Thanks to those that have used my referral link to sign up for online tutoring, prosper, and ING; every little bit helps! Also thank you to the folks that traded me a futon and tv for cash... you rock! (Little did they know I probably would have paid them to get that stuff out of my apartment!) Here's the complete list:Money Makin'$289.68 Tutor.com$90.00 Stuff on Craigslist$25.00 Prosper Referral$7.60 Prosper Loan Payments$20.00 ING ReferralsFebruary Net WorthNet Worth: ($56,636)Increased: 3.66%I redirected some of my debt reduction funds and cash into a Roth IRA this month. I should be back on track with debt repayment in March. My income tax return should be here within a week or two - so look for a steep drop in outstanding debt very s...
December Totals, Forgot November Too
2008-01-03 07:38:00
Another month has passed, and its already time to bring up earnings. Funny thing about having posts sitting in drafts, and forgetting about them. I found that I’ve had like 5 posts carried over from my Blogger blog, that made it into this Wordpress one in draft form. Among them the November ... December Monthly Review
2007-12-19 18:24:00
Another victorious month snatched from the jaws of defeat! The bizarre rally leading up to the Fed meeting was quickly negated, and we had another month with no losing trades - and more importantly, another month in which we handily beat our 10% target return. We're really pleased with our performance this quarter, especially given the market turmoil. Hopefully these results will help disprove the naysayers out there who (erroneously) claim that market-neutral trading is only suitable for quiet markets.
Spy Review - Looking back at September
2007-12-07 10:13:00
In September I reviewed a high quality 2.4GHz Wireless Spy Camera and USB Receiver. The camera is quite robust, something a little rare for a 2.4GHz camera. The wireless receiver is really small and also very versatile. The receiver can be plugged into a TV as well as used on a PC to record footage from the wireless camera. A problem with many cheap cameras from eBay is that they don’t have a UK mains adapter, and this kit usefully had 2 power supplies. Good thing really, as wireless cameras eat batteries! November Monthly Review
2007-11-16 18:39:00
We did have a losing trade this month, the DIA position, which lost 6.3%. But our two SPY positions gained 26.9% and 12.8%, giving us an average this month of 11.1% per trade. These were fairly straightforward trades and didn't require any intra-cycle adjustment. Two comments...
Spy Review - Looking back at August
2007-10-05 11:23:00
Wow the months are flying past at the moment! Here’s a review of all of the cool gadgets I reviewed in August. If you’ve got or seen a product you want to appear on Spy Review, then just drop me a note via the contact me page. Probably the most interesting product that I reviewed in August was the self-destructing paper. It looks like ordainary paper, but completely disintegrates when you pour water on it.
