Sale Pages and Gurus and Marketing Morals
2008-04-24 17:34:00
Recently there is a lot of talk about gurus and the way they market by means of super long sales pages. A lot of ideas have been going around about these sales pages. For example SCAM ALERT! Not a lot of people trust them. Is it because the people that know about marketing are marketers and know the benefits of a sales page? From an end user that does not know any better they may not think that. I have several digital products and I promote by means of a sales letter method. Mine are not super long but it gets the idea straight to the point for the end user. There are also arguments that the gurus are all associated with sales pages, yet I am not one of them. There are assumptions these sales pages are all about deceptive marketing, which I do not think so. The reason I bring this up is because you may have read all around is Joel’s Adsense book for 9.95. I won’t go into detail about - but someone called him out and then he publicly apologized. I have a question though -...
The morals of Heathcliff and Rochester
2008-04-16 14:38:00
The Muskogee Phoenix reviews The Twilight Saga by Stephenie Meyer (check these previous posts) and concludes that it has some things in common with the Brontës' works:Actually, what Meyer has written is akin to Austen’s “Pride and Prejudice” or “Wuthering Heights” with a sexy, vampire Heathcliff, or Edward that is, who has morals. Ostensibly about vampires, the real underlying themes seem to be teen abstinence, overcoming prejudice, developing integrity, and, of course, true love. (Melony Carey)The writer has a point - Rochester's behaviour is more conventional and "moral" than Heathcliff's - but still we are surprised to see Rochester's morals mentioned again. And now for some interesting things from a few blogs. One Day More writes a post on social commentaries in Jane Eyre. And Sneak Preview comes across a Jane Eyre reference in Dr. Paffenroth’s Orpheus and the Pearl:Catherine was exhausted, but too restless to sleep, so she drew all the curtains and settled herse...

The morals of immigration
2008-03-08 01:45:00
The debate over immigration is nothing new. For well over a decade now, policy wonks, academics and ordinary citizens have been debating the topic. In my experience, few topics ignite as much passion (and anger) in my fellow citizens, as does immigration. So, recently I decided to look into the topic as part of my studies and ended up publishing a paper on U.S. immigration policy (published by a journal at Lethbridge Univeristy in Albert, Canada of all places - oh, the irony). While researching the topic, I felt the need to first determine on what philosophical basis immigration could be restricted:Reason dictates that a law must either protect or perpetuate the common good in order to be rational and just... John Stuart Mill articulated this idea in his book On Liberty in a concept named the harm principle. Borrowers in California Just Skipping Out on Mortgages, Morals
2008-02-11 05:09:00
Personal responsibility. Personal responsibility. Personal responsibility. Does anyone seem to know what this means anymore? I shake my head in disgust by the way people today play the victim whenever anything fails to go their way. When I worked with juvenile delinquents, I taught them to understand how their thinking errors lead them to justify negative behaviors. One of the most common criminal thinking patterns is the victim stance. Oh, woe is me! The world is out to get me. None of this is my fault. Hogwash. But try to tell that to people in California, who are just walking away from their responsibilities, and leaving someone else, the bank, holding the bag: “I stopped paying my mortgage in October, after shelling out about $70,000 in interest [over 15 months],” said one borrower, David, who doesn’t want his last name used. “Now, I’m just waiting for the default notice.” The Los Angeles-based writer bought two properties in Hancock Pa...

Faith and Morals
2007-12-12 02:18:00
Lately I’ve heard the phrase “faith and morals” come up around political candidates from time to time, as in polls that ask voters if a candidate's faith and morals are important to them.Do you think a relationship exists between faith and morality? I'm sure we can rule out the assertion sometimes made that atheists are immoral. Anyone who pays attention to the news or looks honestly at other people in day to day life knows that neither atheists nor theists stand out as being any more or less moral than any other large group of human beings. That said, it may still be that a relationship between faith and morality exists. If you consider yourself a person of faith and you lost faith, would you behave differently? If you consider yourself without faith and then had a powerful experience in which you found it, or it found you, do you suppose your behavior would change? For a working definition of faith, how about something like "a hopeful view of life as a whole?"Spirited Child ...

Christian dating -The New Scene Based On Old Morals
2007-08-17 10:08:00
Years ago before the Internet was popular the dating scene was a ravenous place. Based on the smoke filled nightclub scene, blind dates and by chance meetings was about the only way that people had to find one another. Many lived this life for years dreaming of a better way to meet the man or woman of their dreams. The only Christian Dating around was possibly a singles group at the local church. This was a great way to meet other Christians, but the only problem that many ran into was the small group and lack of participation. Based on Biblical teachings, Christians are supposed to find those that have the same belief in Jesus Christ and lead similar lives. Today finding Christians that have similar beliefs, hobbies, careers and personalities is easier than ever. The Internet has opened up a new world for a variety of things and dating is one of them. There are many online dating sites, but the specialized sites are ranking at the top of the popularity chart. There are several Ch...
Dan Moldea: Morals of a Muckraker

Repairing Morals
2007-07-24 10:42:00
A furore has arisen here over the inclusion of certain terms in the new sex education curriculum for schools in India. Many leaders, mainly that of the BJP, condemn the course material as abasing. They are protesting against the use of ‘explicit’ words like intercourse, masturbation etc.Does the child have no other source of information on sex? In my junior school days, seniors went around our class showing pictures of women and educating us on the genital parts, using slang words. What about the porn novels and videos seen together by friends in homes while the parents are away? What about the child who chances upon the porn collection of his/her parents? These can be avoided if there is an open (absolutely) relationship between the child and its parents. If sex is avoided in discussions as an object of shame, then we are all products of shame.Let us be honest with ourselves and set our own morals in order first, before attempting to correct others’ morals.Inspiration fuels u...

Morals are viable
2007-05-13 12:37:00
Italian capitalists fostered fascists and German capitalists - Nazis to oppose communists. Fostering devils to oppose beasts is a bad strategy. It can be good tactics, though. Israel would do well to prompt the PLO to bleed Hamas. Israel would be stupid to foster the PLO as an alternative to Hamas. Your enemy’s enemy is a tactical tool to bring your enemy down, but often not an acceptable alternative to your enemy. America figured out that Saddam relied on Sunnis, and pulled the Shia majority to power; the emboldened Shia extremists fought the Americans. The US repeats similar error with Kurds: for the tactical benefit of having a strong anti-Arab ally, America creates a time-bomb of the terrorist Kurdish state. Iraq’s Kurdistan will support the insurrection among Turkish Kurds, prompt a civil conflict in Turkey, and cause a wave of Turkish nationalism which could drown Turkey’s secularism in Islamism. The Iraqi Kurds won’t do the American bidding. They don’t care about d...

The way you mean to start out ? Faith, Morals and company culture
2007-04-23 08:16:00
Morals,Faith and Company culture I was talking to a CEO of an emerging start up company in the Telecom sector, it was a few weeks ago, and we were talking about faith, religion and how they fit into the modern business culture. He told me a story, it was about one of his relations who was running a large company, he told my friend that he would never ask anyone to do anything he would not do himself, and he went on to talk about his secretary, he would never ask her to tell a "white" lie, because if she did, he would never know when she would tell him one or a customer. This got me to thinking about the weeks before you start your first new employee, what culture are they going to meet with when they first join, another way to ask the question how do you want them to represent you in there dealings with customers, suppliers and workmates. I am not going say here what is the correct way to set the culture, because we are all individuals and have our own thoughts and believes, but wh...

The Evolution of Morals
2007-03-20 19:03:00
In today's New York Times there is a wonderful article about the biological origins of morality. Because the article featured the newest research of Frans de Waal, who cut his teeth back in the 1960s discussing the biological origins of aggressive behavior in primates, I took notice. It certainly caught my eye when the article suggested:[Biologists] believe that if morality grew out of behavioral rules shaped by evolution, it is for biologists, not philosophers or theologians, to say what these rules are. This way of framing the issue, presented in the second paragraph of the article is, I think, needlessly confrontational and not supported by the remainder of the piece. I doubt there are many philosophers or theologians who would wish to say what the "behavioral rules shaped by evolution" are, since that is quite obviously the province of biology (or at least evolutionary psychology), not ethics.More intriguing is the question, posed later in the article, between "is" and "ought":Ph...

Psychology, Anthropology, & Sociology :: Cultural Morals, Spiritual Confusi
2007-01-30 15:07:01
Author: Eric Subject: Cultural Morals, Spiritual Confusion, & Pseudo Religion Posted: Mon Jan 29, 2007 9:33 pm (GMT -5) Three Observations Gregory Koukl I have three quick reflections I'd like to share with you. First, there are people whom my family has been acquainted with that are living lifestyles now, morally speaking, that they would not have countenanced thirty years ago. I remember these folks thirty years ago and their moral point of view largely paralleled the moral point of view of the culture. As you recall the 50's or the 60's, when I was growing up, divorces were called broken homes. Remember that? Now divorces are so prevalent that no one would use that language, that judgmental language, about divorces. But back then even being divorced was considered somewhat of a moral compromise, an injury in some significant sense. So things changed. This is really my point. There are friends that I had contact with that are now living in sexual sin...
A CASE OF MORALS
2006-12-02 15:30:12
Click PhotoI would like to believe that every man and woman on this earth has some type of morals and if not, I know that GOD will deal with that.I just can't see how just 7 years ago every Evangelical Christian, Republican and Neocon was talking about how former President Clinton lacked morals and how America needed a person in the White House with those qualities.Well now that we have a Republican in office and a majority House and Senate, my question is where's the morals of these people?I'm not GOD, so I'm not going to condemn anyone, but there seems to be a decay in this President morals, that's if he had any in the first place. We always hear this man say, the war in Iraq is a war on terror. Now who can still say that he is right?I don't believe anyone in this Administration, House or Senate seems to be honest and frank with the American People and I don't think they have our best interest at heart.Did you know that former President Bush is The man who originally recruit...
