Tourism boosts Moroccan property market
2008-05-30 02:00:00
Efforts to boost tourism in Morocco are directly impacting on its housing market, property experts have stated. According to Amberlamb, the Moroccan government is aiming to attract ten million visitors a year by 2010. As part of this plan, it has invested in the creation of new resorts in desirable locations, which include leisure outlets, amenities and accommodation. The organisation said that this has helped to raise the international profile of Morocco, which in turn has led to interest from foreign property buyers. Therefore, the country is receiving an economic boost from both the tourist trade, overseas investment and a growing housing market. Amberlamb commented: "It is ensuring that interest is intense and it is already returning positives for real estate as a contributing sector to the overall economy." This comes after NuBricks.com said the tourism sector in Morocco is "on the up" and has witnessed some "impressive growth" in recent year...
Investors advised to consider Moroccan market
2008-05-22 02:00:00
Overseas property investors have been advised to enter the Moroccan market sooner rather than later. According to property expert Fouad Akalay, the north African country is currently enjoying considerable growth in its tourism industry. Speaking to the Telegraph, he stated that this has had a direct impact on its housing market, as it has triggered a property boom. This means that investors who purchase a residence in Morocco can expect their acquisition to go up in value relatively quickly. As a result, they could potentially make a considerable profit should they choose to sell up at a later date. However, this also means that investors who enter the market earlier will benefit the most, as houses will still be fairly cheap if they do not delay. Mr Akalay commented: "Early investors should expect capital growth of 20 to 30 per cent for the next several years." This comes soon after NuBricks.com described a property in Morocco as "a smart buy".
Moroccan tourism boosts investment potential
2008-05-16 02:00:00
Efforts to boost tourism in Morocco could potentially make it more appealing to property investors, analysts have suggested. According to NuWireInvestor, the government wants to stimulate further economic growth by attracting more visitors to the north African country. The website believes this could be a positive development for overseas property investors, as it could also lead to growth in the housing market. NuWireInvestor commented: "Plans to create more jobs and increase tourism by 2010 are likely to boost Moroccan economy and the property market in the next two years." This, it continued, means that Morocco could be a good location for overseas property investors to consider. Prospective buyers were encouraged to buy a property in the country before the market "peaks". This comes after the Foreign Property Buyer website said that the government's plan to increase the number of visitors to Morocco over the next two years "bodes well" f...

Moroccan Lamb Shanks
2008-04-03 18:50:00
This is a great dish, tastes wonderful and the thing I love about cooking shanks is that although the cooking time is long once you have it all in the pot that is it, just come and stir it a couple of times. I actually went and enjoyed a drink with my hubby that evening at our local restaurant and I didn't have to worry about the food. When we got home it was nice to know I did not have much to do add the kumara and make some couscous. I make lamb shanks all the time I really enjoy them, I would probably make them more if they were readily available. This is just another take on a more traditional lamb shank recipe. I use 4 nice size lamb shanks in this recipe or if you can only get french trimmed use 8, 2 per person as they are smaller.Ingredients4 Lamb shanks or 8 French trimmedolive oil2 Medium brown onions, chopped coarsely3 Cloves garlic, crushed2 Teaspoons ground cinnamon3 Teaspoons ground cumin3 Teaspoons ground coriander1 Cup dry red wine4 Cups (1litre) Chicken Stock3 Table...

Moroccan Chicken and Couscous
2008-03-10 05:22:00
Another recipe from Fitness Food tonight -- seems like every recipe we've made from this book is a winner. This time, chicken drumsticks are slowly simmered in a tomato and chicken broth-based sauce and served over couscous with chickpeas, green onions, and cilantro. It was a nice departure from the ever-present chicken breasts we usually cook with.Lisa says:Yay, we get to be cavemen!Chris says:What do you mean?Lisa says:The chicken is on the bone.Chris says:Ahhh... I get ya. Did you ever go for the giant turkey drumsticks at state fairs?Lisa says:Uh, no. The last thing I'd want to do is stand around in public ripping meat off a bone with my teeth.Chris says:But this...Lisa says:...THIS is different. This is delicious, and I can use a fork. And I can't get enough of the sauce. Such a good flavor!Chris says:Agreed -- and the recipe made a TON of couscous. Those four servings are mighty generous.Lisa says:I really like the couscous. It would go well with a lot of dishes, e...

Moroccan Prawns with Couscous
2008-02-23 19:18:00
This is sounds like such a big recipe but if you just follow the steps it is not as daunting as it sounds and the end result is gorgeous. I made this as I have been trying to recreate a recipe I have had at a local restaurant. I know this is not exactly how they would make it but it tasted wonderful and both myself and my hubby absolutely loved this.I am also thinking about starting back catering again, I have catered before for small dinner parties and for large parties of about 50 people, although never anything huge like a few hundred, but am always up for new challenges. I am based in the canton of Vaud in Switzerland and would like to cater from Lausanne to the Geneva area, if you are reading this site and are from around this area I would love to know what you think, so all comments welcome.IngredientsSauce1 Cup water2 Teaspoons fish stock granules (a good flavoursome one.)1/2 Teaspoon garlic powder1 Teaspoon ground cumin1/2 Teaspoon ground coriander1/2 Teaspoon ground ginger1...
Moroccan-Style Cornish Hens
2008-02-05 02:21:00
Cornish game hens are a great alternative to roasting a whole chicken. For a dinner for two, it makes perfect sense if you don't want tons of leftovers. For larger groups, they're equally as elegant. They're smaller and easier to work with, too. When we invited my father in law and step-mother in law over for dinner this weekend, cornish hens were the perfect choice. They don't eat red meat, fish seems a little too common, and chicken breasts? Not nearly nice enough. I wanted to make something special, and hens fit that bill. There are probably a zillion ways you could make cornish hens, much like a whole chicken. It can be seasoned and stuffed however you like. Roasted whole, butterflied and grilled, and even slow cooked. I found this great recipe from Epicurious.com for Moroccan-Style Cornish Hens with Roasted Vegetables. The combination of seasonings - caraway, cinnamon, paprika, ginger... (the list goes on!) really drew me in, nevermind the mouth-watering combination of vege...

New flights to boost Moroccan tourism
2008-02-04 01:00:00
Owners of property in Morocco could see a surge in demand for rental accommodation this year. This is due to the introduction of a new flight between Madrid and Tangiers by low-cost airline easyJet.The service should open up the north of Morocco to consumers in Spain and mainland Europe and potentially boost tourism in the region. In addition, the launch of flights in Tangiers should also enhance the appeal of the region among overseas property buyers, particularly as growth in the tourist trade increases the likelihood of collecting strong rental returns.Several flights to Morocco are already operated by easyJet from a number of different European cities, including services to Marrakesh from Gatwick Airport in London and the French capital Paris. However, this service marks the first time that the carrier has offered people direct passage to Tangiers.

Frugality, Canned Tomatoes, & Moroccan-Spiced Fish
2008-01-29 02:49:00
Staying on my cheap (who, me?) theme, it?s on to one of my quick fish suppers; it?s easy to make yet results in all sorts of interesting flavors and textures. The inspiration behind its creation is a Moroccan fish tagine I made a while back (tagine is the word for both the cooking vessel and the spiced stew cooked within). While delicious, the tagine required marinating the fish in 3/4 cup of spiced olive oil for 24 hours, roasting for an hour and 45 minutes, and spending about 40 dollars on ingredients?not exactly weeknight fare (at least, not at my house).Off to the drawing board!I simplified the steps (e.g., no marinating, and stovetop simmering instead of oven roasting) and ingredients (e.g., canned petite-dice tomatoes instead of fresh, fresh lemon instead of preserved lemon, cinnamon & cumin?also traditional Moroccan spices?instead of saffron); it?s a snap to pull off (you can keep almost all of the items in the freezer or pantry) but the flavors are still captivating.I ...

Moroccan Food Strategy
2007-11-11 23:46:00
Moroccan Food StrategyI must say that I am not much of a connoisseur of any particular substance, especially food. I eat for two reasons: 1. to fill my stomach; 2. for nutrition; and I try to do this in the absolute cheapest manner possible. I am rather base in this regard, as I do not go to great lengths to sample all of the little delicacies of any culture. When I enter a new region of the world, I try to quickly come up with a food strategy that consists of a couple of the cheapest dishes, intermixed with fruits , vegetables, and additional “bulkifiers”- like crackers or bread- that I procure from little shops and nibble on throughout the day. As soon as I find a couple of places in a given town to obtain my desired food rations (shops, restaurants, street carts etc . . .) I continuously go there repeatedly throughout my stay. There have been restaurants that I have eaten at three times a day for over a week and little shops whose owners think that I am mad for buying so much...

The last of the crockpot dishes for this week!(And I definitely need the break... I've made WAY more food than one girl can handle in a week... I'm hoping all this stuff freezes well!)This veggie stew was really good. Lots of good stuff in it to fill ya up! This is certainly one of those prep recipes tho, since it took more than 30 minutes for me to cut up the squash, potatoes, onion, etc. and get everything in the pot. Still, it was nice to come home to a cooked meal after a long day at work. :)Moroccan Lentil Stew1 c. dried lentils, rinsed and sorted1 lb. butternut squash, peeled and cubed10 small red potatoes, cubed1 onion, chopped4 cloves garlic, minced2 (14 oz.) cans diced tomatoes, undrained1 tbsp. curry powder1/2 tsp. salt1/8 tsp. white pepper1/8 tsp. crushed red pepper2 c. water8 oz. package frozen cut green beans, thawedPut everything except the green beans in the crockpot and simmer on low for 8-10 hours (or until all the veggies are tender). Moroccan Mint Tea
2007-10-27 18:24:00
Author: Arbor TeasOriginal Source: TraditionsAs with many cultures across the globe, the consumption of tea holds great significance in Moroccan life. This is demonstrated in part by the highly ornate teapots (often engraved silver), trays, and crystal glasses used in its preparation and service. Traditionally, tea is prepared in a samovar which brews strong, highly concentrated tea. Usually a gunpowder variety of green tea is used. After brewing, the tea is heavily sweetened with sugar and flavored with a touch of mint. The teapot is held high in the air while pouring the tea into the small, delicate glasses. This showy feat is made possible by the long and slender curved spout on the Moroccan teapot (and a lot of practice!). Moroccan mint tea is an excellent accompaniment to their rich and flavorful cuisine!

Moroccan Nights
2007-10-23 02:36:00
Late at night in the backstreets of any Moroccan town you get the feeling you shouldn't be there. Especially in a port city like this one where anything goes. The smell of frying fish, a few men with greedy eyes under a streetlight, silky blackness. A skinny youth in a white jellaba grips his crotch and grins. You'd be crazy to do more than grin back. After getting lost a couple of times up inky-black alleyways, we eventually found the youth hostel we'd left our things at earlier in the evening, but the door was locked. Shit! Sure, the warden guy had said there was a curfew, but we were only half an hour late. I banged on the door. Nothing. 'So what do we do?' My kid brother Nick was looking nervous. He ran his hand through his thick, straw-coloured hair. 'Fucked if I know,' I said. We couldn't just stand around in the street. A couple of young guys leaning against the wall opposite were already watching us intently, murmuring to each other and laughing so...

Where you from?” routine is a global phenomenon (at least it is in places more frequented by tourists) and as such, after a while, it’s easy enough to deal with. What I found hard to deal with though was the way that, in Morocco, they don’t just play mental chess with you – which can be kind of fun, and keep the senses sharp – but the real hustlers go straight for the heart. And, in my opinion, that’s a shitty, s...

The Moroccan Justice and Development Party, "moderate", think again
2007-10-01 19:46:00
I was recently on a panel at the Hudson Institute on the "moderate" Islamist parties in Turkey and Morocco. Here is a short excerpt of my remarks: Moderates? I don?t think so... It is a mistake to call the PJD a moderate party. They appear moderate, they look very elegant and very Western and always start their speeches with discussions on universal values, democracy, respect for freedom, etc. But then, they promote retrograde values; they attack women, non-moral festivals, and many other things....(read more)

Moroccan-Inspired Stuffed Peppers
2007-08-15 15:03:00
These Moroccan-inspired stuffed peppers were an idea born from a recipe that fellow Nestie Cara had posted on her blog a week or two ago. I modified the recipe to suit our tastes (added a meat - chicken - and altered some of the remaining ingredients based on our preferences). The meal turned out to be very good, however there was something that seemed to be lacking. Unlike conventional stuffed pepper recipes that I have made before, this one did not include a sauce or binding component. That is one thing that I would add to this dish to make it a little heartier and juicier (any ideas??). Other than that, this was a great dish!Moroccan-Inspired Stuffed Peppers(adapted from Cara's Cravings)4 large yellow bell peppers1 lb boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-size pieces2 cloves garlic, minced1 small onion, choppedSaltPepperParsley (I used dried flakes)1 cup garbanzo beans (drained and rinsed)1 cup chicken broth2/3 cup dry couscous (I used whole wheat)4 oz. feta cheese1....
Moroccan Decorating Ideas

Color is the single most important aspect when you hunt for Moroccan decorating ideas. Before you start tearing that room apart, shop for a piece of fabric. This swatch will become your inspiration. It will likely have and jewel tones such as emerald green, royal purple, royal blue and deep pinks. Morocco is a country in North of Africa. It’s has a Mediterranean climate which is slightly evident in the decorating style with the use of flowing fabrics, although most of the decorating influence comes from middle eastern countries. Metals such as silver, gold and copper are important. Tapestries and flowing fabrics are key. Import stores are a great place to shop for furniture and accessories. Remember the show I dream of Genie? The following Moroccan decorating ideas remind me of how Genie might like her bottle decorated. Here are some more ideas to start you off on the right foot. Moroccan Stuffed Peppers
2007-08-08 02:58:00
This past weekend, I found a wonderful treat at my local farm stand: big, beautiful yellow and orange peppers for $1.39/lb. I picked up two of each knowing they would make for some lovely stuffed peppers. I never quite fell in love with the traditional stuffed pepper, but typically I do some kind of southwestern spin on my stuffed peppers. However, when searching for recipes for mango chutney, I came across this Cooking Light recipe for Moroccan Chickpea and Couscous Stuffed Peppers. I found it intriguing, but missing something. After some thought, I decided to add raisins and pine nuts - a real palette-pleasing combination fairly common in food from this region. In fact, I am not sure why Cooking Light did not include any dried fruit or nuts in the original recipe, because I think it added great flavor, texture, and complexity to the dish. I didn't have any chutney but still wanted to use some kind of sauce, so I mixed together some apricot preserves, yogurt, peach-mango hot sauce...
