waging war on moths
2008-07-26 21:04:00
Saturday 26: (Written in bed at 01:10am) I don?t like to kill any living being but sometimes needs must. Like past midnight, when an invasion of Amazonion-sized moths took over my bedroom. Swooping and divebombing my pillow, I actually felt threatened. Initially, I thought there was only one and that a swift swat had sent ...
Are Moths Really Eating Your Clothes?
2008-03-21 04:47:00
“Help!! Moths are eating my clothes!!!” First of all, it is not caused by moths, but the larvae that hatch from their eggs. Larvae look like small white caterpillars. They engulf natural fibres, including wool and silk. How to kill them? One method is to wash all your clothes at the highest advised temperature. Put any “dry-clean only” items ...
Mad scientists create bionic moths
2008-03-20 16:58:00
One of the boffins at Georgia Tech has found something easier then building a robot with spy gear built in. He has taken the path less traveled by implanting the devices directly into a living bug. (Gentlemen, we can rebuild him…) The idea is to make longer-living SpyBot insects by implanting sensors that can detect ...

17 moths baby reading and singing
2008-03-14 21:04:00
An American 17 month old girl who can sign, and read print and cursive. Now tell me that is not impressive. A 17 month old American girl is very gifted for her age, as she can read and print cursive and can sing as well. You have to admit, that is very impressive the child’s parents must be very proud.Elizabeth Barrett looks and acts like any normal 17 month old child, but when you watch the

Clothes moths: Send them packing
2007-11-21 02:55:00
Clothes moths: Send them packing Thanks to global warming, moths are enjoying a boom. Judith Woods finds out how to prevent them tucking into your favourite garmentsThere comes a point in every woman's life when her nurturing side takes over. When it's time to bring that precious bundle home and care for it, day and night, keeping it safe from harm. It's a big responsibility - but you'll know when you're ready. There's more than one way to kill a mothI am talking not about a baby, but something much more high-maintenance: a designer sweater. In my case, it's a glorious cream alpaca one that I recently purchased from Joseph in Paris, in a heady, café-au-lait-infused moment. At £229, it's the single most expensive item of clothing I have ever bought, after my wedding dress. But it is truly fabulous, and worth every penny. It's the fashionable-yet-cosy garment for which I've always longed: a gloriously shapeless sloppy Joe to wear with leggings, for those Sarah ...
Aussies urged to eat moths
2007-10-10 15:14:00
Australians are being urged to get rid of a plague of moths - by eating them. The “munch a moth” campaign is being led by Jean-Paul Bruneteau, 51, a French-born chef, reports the Daily Telegraph. He first began eating the brown bogong moths 11 years ago while researching a book on bush tucker eaten by Aborigines. “They have ...
Infestation Of The Moths.
2007-10-04 17:38:00
Infestation Of The Moths. These photos were taken during the summer of 2005 in Flogsta/Hamberg, a district in Uppsala, about 60 km north of Stockholm, Sweden. This is the infestation of a moth called Bird-cherry Ermine. The caterpillars eat leaves from bird cherry. They also spin this white silk-like substance around trees, and after a while they turn into pupas in large clusters like in some of the photos. Eventually they become small white moths. The caterpillars don't smell. But when you stand under a tree and listened carefully, you could perceive the tiny sounds of a million larvae eating and moving. I have no idea why they like bikes so much. Does the structure remind them of a tree with thin branches? I don't know. Since some caterpillars did turn into pupas on bicycles and other places where there is nothing to eat, I suppose they must have eaten first and then left the tree to do the transformation. By the way, most people living in the area are students. Many of them visi...
Fear of Moths
2007-09-06 15:25:00
Hypnosis can have an advantage over traditional psychotherapy as it usually works far more quickly and allows the subject to 'root out' the unconscious fears that are responsible for phobic conditions.. Julie had been afraid of moths for as long as she could remember to the point where she could not stand to even look at one. She told me that she had been seeing a psychiatrist for about five

Cyborg Moths Against Terrorism
2007-05-24 18:10:00
Another crazy story.Scientists are growing flesh around computer parts to create cyborg moths, which can be controlled remotely!Inside it will be a computer chip that was implanted when the creature was still a pupa, in the cocoon, meaning that the moth?s entire nervous system can be controlled remotely. The moth will thus be capable of landing in the camp without arousing suspicion, all the while beaming video and other information back to its masters via what its developers refer to as a ?reliable tissue-machine interface.? The creation of insects whose flesh grows around computer parts ? known from science fiction as ?cyborgs? ? has been described as one of the most ambitious robotics projects ever conceived by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (Darpa), the research and development arm of the US Department of Defense.

2007-03-26 04:21:00
So, I was putting clothes away and cleaning up this weekend in the attic and it is a mess - and it isn’t a walk in attic so you can’t stand up besides. After an hour I did a pretty good...
