Arai Quantum 2 vs Z1R Blade
2008-06-06 02:28:00 Today I decided to take my old Z1R Blade helmet to ride in instead of the Arai Quantum 2. After a little bit of “dusting off” I was on my way to the office. I was surprised how much different the Blade felt comparing to the Quantum. And not in a good way. First of all ...
Small Cars, Old Motorcycles, and Fringe Vehicles
2008-06-05 07:01:00 So was the small-car showing at the first Hemmings cruise-in two weeks ago just a blip on the radar? Perhaps: Last night's turnout included just the regular number of vintage Beetles and British cars, though we did see a remarkably nice 1965 Midget. We did note a few more motorcycles than usual

To refresh your memory I had a number of them already when I was attacked by a Prius I was attacked by a woman driving an SUV a passenger ...

Why Split Lanes
2008-05-23 21:58:00 I truly believe that everything in life happens for a reason. My lane splitting etiquette post generated a somewhat sophisticated comment the other day - “Lane Splitting is for IDIOTs”. I was never the one to participate in pissing matches. But again, everything in life happens for a reason. So just the next day after ...
U.S. Census Bureau Motorcycles
2008-05-21 15:00:00 Few things are said to be as exhilarating as riding a motorcycle with its sense of unencumbered freedom and the feeling that the vehicle is an extension of the rider. With the summer season starting, more and more bikers will take to the road. There are about 150,000 accidents involving motorcycles each year. While this number is down almost three- quarters since 1980, these accidents still result in 4,600 deaths of motorcycle riders annually. You can find these and more facts about America from the U.S. Census Bureau online at www.census.gov LATER Technorati Tags: RilySi,Ride it like you stole it,Motorcycle Riding,Motorcycle Commuting,FlatLand,Florida
Lane Splitting - Riders Etiquette Part Deux
2008-05-21 06:39:00 I had already blogged about this a little bit. Today is the time to revisit this subject. I was riding back from the office, traffic as usual, splitting lanes at around 30 mph I caught up to a cruiser rider. My aftermarket Taylormade Racing exhaust has a pretty loud note, usually I don’t have to rev ...

Demo Ride - Ducati Monster
2008-05-18 01:19:00 Out of curiosity I wanted to try the Monster. I see a lot of people ride it around. So I wanted to see what it was all about and dismiss or confirm the assumption that the Monster is too small for my height. With this said my second demo ride of the day was waiting ...
Demo Ride - Ducati Hypermotard
2008-05-18 01:18:00 The time has come. The visual inspection of this bike that Motodisiac and I had some time ago can not do the justice. I had to demo the Hypermotard. I had to see for myself if my interest in this piece of Italian motorcycle engineering really died down. The demo bike they had was the more ...

Scrapheap Challenge motorcycles pit electricity against gasoline
2008-05-16 00:26:00 We love the British show Scrapheap Challenge. Reruns of the old Junkyard Wars episodes sometimes appear on satellite TV, and we've seen all of them. The show still runs in the U.K., and the latest episode featured junkyard-derived motorcycles, which the show charitably describes as superbikes. One rule in particular made the challenge rather difficult: no parts originally used on a motorcycle may be used on the scrap-bikes. This made the design of the two-wheelers rather interesting, to say the least. One team decided to go light and nimble with an electric motor and lead-acid batteries. The other team chose to use the engine from a small car. What could be greener than making usable electric machines recycled from discarded junk? Would the powerful internal-combustion engine powered "superbike" grab the victory from the plucky little electric machine? If you'd like to find out, follow the build progress and recaps of the three races which would decide the winner. Thanks for the t...
Why Helmet Color Matters
2008-05-15 22:39:00 I was riding back home from work. I was merging from one freeway to another. Going down the on-ramp, cautiously splitting narrowing lanes. I noted a rider on the freeway I was merging on. Something looked familiar, his helmet looked familiar, his jacket, his bike. Wait, it is Motodisiac. By the time I ended up ...

Shiver From The Shiver - Aprilia Test Rides
2008-05-10 23:03:00 Ever since the Hypermotard hysteria began both Motodisiac and I were sort of on a quest to find the next bike each one of us likes. Three Ways to Build a Motorcycle
2008-04-20 07:00:00 Some people build custom bikes because they are cheaper than buying one. Others just want the I-built-that feeling as they look at it. Still others might want customization that they can’t get in an “off the shelf” model. When someone decides to build a motorcycle, there are three paths to take depending on budget, ...

Motorcycle Helmet Bag - Don?t Leave Home Without Your Headgear
2008-04-19 11:28:00 Riding advocates always tell people to wear a helmet when riding their motorcycle in order to protect the head from serious or fatal injuries is they are ever involved in an accident. There will always be people who would prefer not to be encumbered by this heavy and hot piece of riding equipment, but when faced with the alternative of brain injury or death, most people will invest in a helmet that is comfortable and easy to wear in order to protect themselves. This investment deserves to be protected as well and consumers who are conscientious about their equipment will also purchase a motorcycle helmet bag to keep their equipment in tip top shape. These bags will help keep the helmet from getting dinged up and dull when they are not being used, making them last longer and retain their beauty.

Thoughts on Commercials - Subaru WRX STI vs KTM Super Duke 990
2008-04-15 02:04:00 Some time ago Motodisiac showed me this commercial. Today I read this blog post that showcased a Subaru commercial. ...
Bratstyle Motorcycles
2008-04-14 21:53:00 Japanese custom bike makers Bratsyle build or tinker with any make and model to create dream bikes. With capabilities to machine nearly any part of the bike including engine blocks, mufflers, handlebars and seats, each bike is an exquisite work of craftsmanship and a showcase of impressively sharp attention to detail. Unlike over-the-top embellished bikes in the vein of Orange County Choppers, Bratsyle offers a more rideable, comfortable, subdued luxury that reminds us of Simone Pace's Italian bikes. I especially like the old-school Firestone slicks often used on their street bikes. Check out some motorcycles, purchase original parts or inquire about your own custom creation at Bratsyle.
