Motueka, sky diving and heaven in a cast iron tub
2008-01-03 03:58:00
I flew to Nelson at 5pm on New Years eve. James had arranged 2 days accommodation in Motueka for us and collected me from the airport. Opting for a quiet night with our hosts and other guests, we left the group later and saw 2008 in under the stars. Just the two of us up to our necks in warm water and bubbles. Set well away from the buildings our outdoor claw foot bath had complete privacy and was heaven. Fireworks in the distance marked the moment. Precious. January 1st I was given a tour of Motueka. James knows it well. First stop was lunch in town with friends of his before having a go on The Flying Fox (pictures included). Kiwi ingenuity at it finest! You climb into a space shuttle, bullet type of thing then the operator (and inventor - I wanted to commend someone and he turned out to be just the man) starts up an old tractor which winches the bullet to the top of a hill. Then he lets it go. Speed exceeds 100km p/h and you’re stopped at the bottom by a pool of water. Ve...

2008 MOTUL Tour Britannia dates announced!
2007-10-20 00:00:00
MOTUL Tour Britannia has now established itself as one of the leading historic Race Tours within Europe. In each of the three years it has run the event has gone from strength to strength and a record, near capacity entry of 84 cars in 2007 was testament to the ever-growing popularity of Tour Britannia. A rich variety is important to the organisation and a carefully considered route has always ensured Tour Britannia entrants have enjoyed some of England's finest scenery. This was epitomised in 2007 when unprecedented access was gained to Windsor Park and the field of cars elegantly toured the famous Long Walk up to The Queen's residence, Windsor Castle. The assortment of different race circuits has always been appreciated by drivers and the diversity of special stages has also seen these magnificent cars right at home in the grounds of stately houses and historic hill climb venues. In 2007, the contrast between old and new was never more evident than when the route took the crews...

In the Competition category, John Grant and Charles Elwell powered the awesome Chevron B16 to victory, while in Regularity Michael Birch claimed honours in his first year in the event. He was however co-driven by former two-time winner of the category, Jeremy Haylock, who has previously navigated John Ruston to two Tour Britannia victories. The overall MOTUL Tour Britannia - based on Index of Performance - was won by Porsche driver Paul Howells, navigated by Travis drummer, Neil Primrose. Click on the picture to enlarge Visit our 2007 Tour Britannia pictures gallery The third running of MOTUL Tour Britannia, Britain's only Race Tour for historic cars, got underway this morning and, after the first of three days of competition, the battle for honours is already fierce and Porsche cars dominate. In the Competition category, the Porsche crew of Howard Redhouse/Richard Shaw and John Grant/Charles Elwell set the early pace, with Redhouse narrowly taking the upper hand. In Regularity, Paul Hernaman/Ray Crowther take a 1.9 second advantage. And, in the fight for overall honours - the MOTUL Tour Britannia Trophy based on Index of Performance - Paul Howells, navigated by Travis drummer Neil Primrose, lead in another Porsche 911. Today's route took in a feast of action that covered racing at Kent's Brands Hatch circuit, as well as speed tests over sealed surface roads at the famous Brooklands race track and the Longcross testing ground. Britain's summer has finally arri...

Motu Proprio Watch

The latest posts on topic over at Rorate Caeli (which, in case you haven't noticed, is THE "Go-To" source for this important matter) bring us, I think, pas tthe point of, "Hope springs eternal in the human breast. Man never is, but always 'to be' blessed." Now we actually have confirmation by someone outside the traditionalist community (and Cardinal Castrillon de Hoyos, as head of Ecclesia Dei,

Traditionalist Catholics across the world should get their hands ready to applaud; Rocco has reports that Pope B XVI has the Motu Proprio on his desk to okay the universal indult for the the Traditional Latin rite of Holy Mass. I don't quite get the attraction being a firmly post-V2 baby. Can anybody who does 'get it' fill me in? More to come...
