Product Review: Freida?s Garlic Delight
2008-05-14 16:49:00 Recently I was sent another great product to review. I was contacted by Hazel over at Freida’s Inc. about a new, fresh garlic product that is now on the market. Hazel told me that the product is made using all natural ingredients and no preservatives: fresh USA-grown garlic, canola oil, lemon juice and salt — that’s it. It sounded too good to be true, a dream come true product review. Something that sounded great and totally fell into pace with my Mediterranean eating habits. So of course I agreed to sample it. The package from Frieda’s arrived overnight in a cooler with ice. I recieved the original Freida’s Garlic Delight as well as the chipotle flavor - imagine my delight. Immediately I checked out the ingredients and it was just as Hazel had said - all natural and no preservatives! Each tub is 7 oz. and so my head was just swimming with ideas of what to do with these tubs of garlicky goodness. This package could not have come at a better time. It ...
Movie Night: A New Tradition - Recipes: Olive Cheese Balls, Lentil Koftas,
2008-05-12 16:05:00 I am all about tradition. Even as a young child, I always enjoyed re-occuring events based on a date, an event, or time. I don’t know what it is about me that just loves a good ritualistic event. Maybe it’s the food. Most likely…Now that I am an adult and getting older and recently married, I have started thinking more about traditions, what they mean to me and what kinds of traditions I want to start for my own family. When we lived in Vermont, we used to have Roberto’s girls with us every other weekend, and I loved cooking special things when they were there. Especially in anticipation of Movie Night. We would rent a movie and then make fun food, perfect for watching and eating at the same time. Recently Roberto and I decided that we really need to bring back Movie Night ? even if only for us. A time to get our jammies on and eat fun foods. We have done this three times so far and it seems to be sticking. We have prepared some really fun finger foods and m...

Wednesday night: movie night!
2008-02-07 16:06:00 So this wednesday, as always, i watched a pretty good movie. It's called District13. In the film, two men, highly trained in martial arts and parkour, must team up to save District 13, an infamous ghetto, from a gang lord who has acquired a neutron bomb. The movie is directed by Peter morel and produced by Luc Besson.Parkour is an activity with the aim of moving from one point to another as efficiently and quickly as possible, using principally the abilities of the human body. Founded by David Belle in France, parkour focuses on practicing efficient movements to develop one's body and mind to be able to overcome obstacles in an emergency. It may also be a form of entertainment or pastime. So everything in the flick is authentic and without special effects. here's a scene from this cool movie, enjoy!Until next time...

Wednesday night: movie night!
2008-01-30 23:59:00 Tonight was supposed to be movie night but crawling under the work, I could not watch a flick. I have a 1500 words paper about nanotechnology, I have to hand in Saturday morning so I am probably going to spend the night working on it.Instead of showing you a movie, here is a cool French TV commercial. It's from Quick restaurant and it's a marketing campaign about their new "demoniac" burgers. Apparently the Devil is not so...devilish. The acting and the make up are awesome. Have a look!Till next time...

Wednesday night: movie night!
2008-01-23 02:44:00 Hello world. Like every wednesday I went to the movies tonight. It's a habit i have taken since i am here in France. I usally go alone and even if i am by myself, i always have a good time. Wednesday's night are a cool way for me to take a break from the school work i am permanently doing. It's adapted from the comics which has the same name created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo. In the fim Astérix and Obélixs must win the Olympics games to help a gaulois conquer the princess Irina and fight against the infamous Brutus, who will use all the strategies to also win the games and get rid of his father:Julius Cesar. The movie was..how to put it.. just Great. Very funny and with great special effects. If you have the chance, you should definitely check it out. However, when i got home i was still feeling sick and I even...

Friday Night Movie Night
2008-01-05 01:13:00 The end of Christmas vacation? I suppose, although I will be savouring the last few days reading a new shipment of books that arrived from the Heavens (I mean, Chapters online shopping). Currently, I am reading jPod (Douglas Coupland) and it's another rare book at which I have been laughing out loud endlessly. Only 100 pages in so far, but highly recommend it! Back in school Monday and teaching the second half of the Introductory Psychology course, my goal is to again make the course deeply interesting (even for the people just doing it for 3 credit hours). I've bought pounds of brain gummies to simulate a real brain, I've re-created the Pavlov's Dogs experiment with a water gun, and I've taught the class to engage in deep relaxation - to the point of snoring. But there are some things, well, that I cannot bring myself to do. Action movie night
2007-12-30 00:00:00 My husband came home with a couple of movies last night. Live Free or Die Hard and War. We ordered in dinner and snuggled up on the couch. It was really nice. I enjoyed both movies. I think Bruce Willis did a damn good job bringing back John McClane, I liked it even more then the older Die Hard movies. From what I can remember any way. As for War, well, I am sucker for any movie with Jason Statham so I could be a little bias but I thought it was pretty good. I enjoyed it even though I figured out the plot twist early. I?d say both movies were entertaining and worth the rent. Funny, now that I think about it I don?t ever remember my husband ordering food and hanging out on the couch with me when I bring home a couple of movies. In fact he runs to the basement. Could this be a one sided thing we have here? Or I?d say he owes me!
Scary movie night
2007-12-29 00:00:00 Bethany and I were up way too late last night watching scary movies. First we watched The Messengers. This is my kind of scary movie. Nothing too gross, not too intense, a good cast that makes me jump a few times, PG-13 type scary with a fun plot twist to it. Then we watched The Reaping. A much more intense movie but very well done. I did my best to talk my way out of watching it with Bethany because the trailer looked too scary for me but it turned out to be more of a good movie then scary. I enjoyed it.

2007-12-21 16:18:00 "Underdog”2007*** out of ****Director: Frederik Du ChauCast: Jason Lee, James Belushi, Peter DinklageYou guys remember when I reviewed “I Know Who Killed Me,” and said that I had a whole line of Lindsay Lohan jokes lined up for a rant, right? Well, “Underdog” was another one of those films that I thought was going to suck more than a Thai hooker, and I was going to be the one that was going to slap it with a purple dildo. But, of course, something happened. It may have been my love for superhero films… or my love for films in general… or maybe Tony DeFrancisco’s heart is turning from black to red.But whatever the hell it was, I liked “Underdog.” And that’s not it… I actually feel bad for making fun of Jason Lee for this film.“Underdog” isn’t much, but I learned that a film like this doesn’t need to be. It’s directed towards little kids, and works as a family movie. There are many people who are going to hate it just because it’s a kid movie, but t...

Saturday Movie Night Week 4: "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," "
2007-12-10 05:57:00 “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix”2007Original Rating: *** out of ****New Rating: *** out of ****Director: David YatesCast: Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Rupert GrintAfter “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire,” there was a reason to stay the hell away from the “Harry Potter” movies. It was filled with so much drama that it would take high-school one thousand years just to get half of the drama. I figured that it was the kids that were growing up, so I was about to stay away from this movie…It’s a good thing though that when you made a promise to see every summer blockbuster except for “Shrek the Third” that you have to see every summer blockbuster except for “Shrek the Third.” It must have been director Mike Newell, because the fifth “Harry Potter” film is without a doubt the darkest film, with the least amount of drama and the most amount of horrific material. Hell, this may have even been scarier than “From Justin to Kelly” for all I know....

He said that, that means if there's 25 people here I get to let in one and a quarter black people. So I gotta hope there's a midget in the crowd.” – Craig Robinson, “Knocked Up”“There is a very good reason for why my fake I.D. says I’m 25 and not 21. Saturday Movie Night Week 2: "Waitress," "I Know Who Killed Me," "Hot Rod"
2007-11-26 03:58:00 “Waitress”2007**½ out of ****Director: Adrienne ShellyCast: Keri Russell, Nathan Fillion, Cheryl HinesI want to start this review by saying that I never got to see “Waitress” back when it was released in theaters. I desperately wanted to see it, but due that all of the theaters that are near me are either mainstream or shitty theaters, we never got it. Hell, we even BEGGED them to get “Across the Universe” and we were straight-up lucky to get that. But “Waitress” is one of those movies that deserve a standing ovation by a few people. It’s not everyday when someone can display a movie like “Waitress” in a somewhat comedic form. The purpose of “Waitress” is to show just how much an unwanted pregnancy can affect someone’s life. Whereas Judd Apatow used it just to be comedy, Adrienne Shelly uses unwanted pregnancy to use it as a dramedy, plus a much serious issue. It’s more than an unwanted pregnancy. It’s an unwanted marriage where there is spousal abuse...

2007-08-20 13:13:00 I'm never going to make it through today. I am so tired this morning. I stayed up way too late last night watching Disturbia with my husband. We actually made it through the entire movie uninterrupted. It's been almost a year since we were able to sit down and watch a movie from start to finish without hitting the pause button several hundred times to tend to Gabrielle. A two hour movie normally takes at least four hours to watch. Anyway, I'm seriously considering going back to sleep for about an hour. I can barely keep my eyes open.

movie night
2007-08-03 19:37:00 We both agreed that it was a good night to veg out to a movie. So we were trying to decide between two movies which had arrived in the mail from Netflix. I rarely order anything remotely like a chick flick, but I did want to see Premonition. So that was one of them, the other was Shooter. I stared at them both and told my husband I wish we had a comedy. I was in the mood for a few laughs. We don't order too many comedies either. We really like dark comedy and it usually has to be of a certain caliber. He really wanted to persuade me away from the chick flick. so at the idea that I wanted something less depressing he said," Well.....in Premonition....you know someone's going to die." Uh...what was the name of the other movie? Oh- Shooter...yeah that sounds more cheerful....Well that was a good laugh for the night. Shooter was pretty good anyway.
Swanky Summertime Fun: Outdoor Movie Night with Epson's MovieMate
2007-07-24 06:51:00 If you ask either of my boys, last Saturday night was the best night of their Summer! We hosted a Star Wars themed outdoor movie night for 5 families and with the help of the best invention on the face of the earth, it went off without a hitch. The Epson MoiveMate is a portable high quality projector that can turn any wall into a SIMPLE "real life" movie theater experience. When the MovieMate first arrived, I thought it might be complicated to set up. Boy, was I completely wrong. You literally plug the cord into the system and plug it into an outlet. Voila! With two simple steps, you have your very own cinema with the comforts of home. What is truly amazing about the MovieMate is that you can adjust the picture size and level with a simple turn of a dial. The picture can adjust from 80" to a gigantic 12 foot image. This means the movie will look just as great on the living room wall as it will on the side of your house! Getting ready for the party, we experimented a ton. We decided ...

Movie Night
2007-03-01 06:50:00 The forward of "Armchair Mystic," the book I started reading on the plane, starts out with a story about a boy who after watching a holy man playing by a river, asked the holy man to teach him how to pray. The holy man looked at the boy, then grabbed the boy by the neck, plunged his head under water, and held it there. When the boy finally broke and got his breath back, he asked the holy man why he did that. The holy man's response was "When you want to pray as badly as you wanted to breathe under water, only then can I teach you."For Lent, one of the priests here has instituted "Movie Night," where the upstairs lounge is opened for a religious movie. The first one selected was the 1964 film "The Gospel According to Mathew" by Pier Pasolini, widely considered to be one of the best movies ever made on the life of Christ.Pasolini was a communist and an atheist and had previously made a lot of what one of the priests here described as "soft core porn films." However one day, when...
