Falling asleep to Mozart
2007-08-20 07:21:00 The other night, the kids had the idea to sleep in the living room in their sleeping bags. So instead of reading stories, I played the piano until they fell asleep. Adam fell asleep during the second movement from Mozart Piano Sonata K. 332:(Image from Merci beaucoup, monsieur Mozart. When I was younger, I had actually drawn this portion of the sheet music in color because I loved it so much, but now I can't find it ). Dova finally fell asleep about 3 selections later, during the 3rd mvt. of Mozart Sonata in F K.533, arguably the best sonata Mozart wrote, which I wouldn't have known about if it weren't for Baby Mozart. It was a wonderful change of routine as they had never fallen asleep to the piano at nighttime (I remember Adam may have for naps but more out of sheer exhaustion). They were quiet while I played for a change and drifted peacefully off to sleep with the music. I was so lucky to be part of that experience.

This will be the third year in a row I trek up to Trapps for this spectacular display of music in the mountains. And I certainly go in style - wine, cheese, candles, chairs, picnic basket, plastic wine glasses, cloth napkins, table with tablecloth - I like to think I crack a few smiles on my elders by helping to carry on this lah-dee-dah tradition. Geez - I even wear a dress. But, I have learned to bring bug spray, thick socks, a sweater, and a wine opener as well. I love going and enjoying Trapps for what Maria Von Trapp wished it to be enjoyed for. And, I love getting out of my jam band, rock star mode for a bit and unveiling the culture that is deep within. This will be a special performance since I will be enjoying it with my parents and the new main squeeze, whom they will be meeting for the first time. One of the largest events is the Vermont Mozart Festival which starts this weekend and runs through early August. The Inn at Shelburne Farms, Shelburne VT will be hosting the first performance. (Google map.) In case of rain, the performance will be moved to the Robert E. Miller Expo Center Champlain Valley Fairgrounds Essex Junction, Vermont. (Google map.) Many performances are scheduled during the summer and you can see a VT Mozart Festival calendar here. These concerts are a nice way to wrap up a day.
