Mozilla Messaging, la empresa que se está haciendo cargo de Thunderbird, ha lanzada la primera versión alpha de Shredder, el nombre, el alias de Thunderbird 3. El día 29 de Octubre del corriente año The Rumbling Edge (sitio en inglés) realizó una encuesta llamada "The Rumbling Edge Mozilla 2 survey" que duró hasta el 18 de Noviembre pasado. De todas las encuestas hechas, se pudieron rescatar setecientas respondidas en su totalidad, aunque si incluimos las que fueron parcialmente respondidas ese número aumentaría a mil. Un número similar de encuestas (1,022 para ser exactos) fue dejado de lado. Se utilizó SurveyGizmo para analizar los resultados de las encuestas que tenían un total de 10 preguntas, algunas de ellas opcionales. Muchas veces he leído en el sitio sobre usuarios de Thunderbird que no lograban configurar sus respectivas cuentas de Hotmail en el administrador de correos de Mozilla. Hace un tiempo te comentamos en dFX la idea que surgió en Mozilla de separar a Thunderbird de la propia Fundación. La intención era la de poder crear su propio equipo de trabajo para poder llevar a cabo las tareas necesarias para sostener su crecimiento. Las ideas, originalmente, eran tres. Como parte del excelente trabajo que Mozilla viene realizando hace ya un buen tiempo en lo que refiere al proceso de actualizaciones de estabilidad y seguridad, Thunderbird 2.0.0.6 ya está listo para Windows, Mac y Linux  y puede ser descargado de manera gratuita. La actualización debería ejecutarse automáticamente en un lapso de 24 a 48hs. Debido a importantes arreglos que se han realizado en medidas de seguridad, se recomienda a todo usuario descargar la nueva versión. Para hacer esto (en caso de que Thunderbird no lo haya hecho automáticamente), siga los siguientes pasos: Hacer clic en Ayuda en la Barra de Herramientas Seleccionar la opción Comprobar actualizaciones Una vez que Thunderbird haya encontrado la nueva versión hacer clic en Instalar actualización Para ver los arreglos realizados hacer clic aquí.

Como parte del seguro y estable proceso de actualiaciones que Mozilla viene llevando a cabo, ya está disponible la versión 2.0.0.5 de Thunderbird para Windows, Mac y Linux.  Puede ser descagada de manera gratuita haciendo clic aquí. Es altamente recomendable descargar esta actualización ya que se han hecho algunos arreglos en medidas de seguridad. En caso de ya tener instalado Mozilla Thunderbird 2.0.0.X, la actualización debería anunciarse sola en un lapso de 24 a 48 horas, y permitir al usuario descargarla. En caso de que esto no suceda, se puede ir, en la barra de herramientas a la opción 'Ayuda' y luego hacer click en 'Buscar actualizaciones'. Si estas interesado en ver los cambios que se han realizado en la nueva versión, podés hacer clic aquí.
