Say it ain’t so –ed) to substantiate what was apparently one of my more blasphemous remarks below, I did a quick search of the Kaspersky virus database and uncovered the following: Macro.Word97.Mdma Virus.MSExcel.Extras.a Virus.MSWord.Plain Virus.Multi.Esperanto.4733 Virus.MSWord.Archfiend Virus.MSWord.Mdma As I count them there are apparently 6 viruses in the Wild for OS X, and FIVE OF THEM use exploits found in Microsoft Office code (mostly macro-based). It is also interesting that the one NON-MS Office virus in the database was a cross platform virus that has uncertain attack vectors for the Macintosh. 2008-03-11 15:59:00 Microsoft has update everyone with four critical updates today that should quash 12 known bugs in Office, the company's business suite, including a flaw in EXCEL that has been exploited by attackers for more than two months. I think somehow the attackers have always exploited bugs in all versions of Office. These fixes must have been pretty sever because even the SANS Institute's Internet Storm Center (ISC) and Homeland Security's US-CERT was warning everyone of new attacks using the Excel bug. It is amazing that such a large company like Microsoft that has an R & D budget larger than some countries would ever let loose a product that can be so abused. With previous versions of MS Office all you had to do was click on the "Help" button and chose "About" and it would tell you what version of Office you were currently using. Now with Office 2007 it is not nearly that easy. This might seem like a simple thing but after recently install Office 2007 SP1. I was not sure whether the update had installed and wanted to confirm it. Here is how you can check this for Office 2007. First click on the "Office" icon in the top left corner where you will see a drop down like the one below. In this instance I have Excel open so I want to choose the "Excel Options" button and left click it. From there you will want to chose the "Resources" button and to the right you will have information on what version the application is.

Now, Google is also announced to fight against MS Office intensively.On Tuesday, Google and IBM both announced that they are intensifying efforts to challenge Microsoft's Office suite, which dominates the market for productivity software on office and home computers. Read more here...So, the question is can Microsoft Office survive? Of course, yes. Worst case, Microsoft can just make the MS office free. Even more worst case, Microsoft can just ship MS Office that comes free together with the OS. So what is the point they fight so hard against MS Office? It is not want to make him die, we all are just want to make it FREE. Don't you think so? What we consumer really care are 2 things, standardization and free.Google, IBM I fully support you guys!

2007-09-19 07:57:00 Meu titulo é um pecado!!A pouco tempo a IBM anunciou parceira com a comunidade do OpenOffice.org, a mais popular suite de aplicativos (Editor de Texto, Planilhas, Slides, etc) open-source para escritório, ou sua casa, tanto faz :) . O OpenOffice é um otimo pacote de aplicativos, e não perde em nada para o famoso Microsoft Office, talvez perca em visual, para o Office 2007, mas quem precisa de visual?? Nem a "tiazinha" que só usa o Word, e ainda acha ruim migrar para o Linux.Continuando...A IBM, lançou seu propio pacote de aplicativos, o Symphony, baseado no OpenOffice, com um visual mais moderno - acabei de dizer que ninguém precisa de visual né?? - mas no "fundo" é o OpenOffice. Ele pode ser obtido através deste link e é de graça, mas é necessario cadastro na IBM!! Por enquanto só em Inglês, mas como deve ser o sucessor do Lotus, uma versão em português não deve demorar!
