Blues Postage Stamps
2008-07-23 14:00:00
I've been trying to put together a post on blues postage stamps. You know, a little something something for the philatelists who read SML. Oh, and the bluesmen just call them stamp collectors. But my ability to collect pictures of the blues stamps is not so good. I know that there are many more stamps then the few I have posted here. Here is what I have come up with so far, I will update my collection when I find more photos of blues stamps. If you know of any photos that I can post here let me know in a comment.Bessie Smith Postage StampMuddy Waters Postage StampW.C. It was made using the photo booth image (read all about it here). According to the article; The cigarette that dangles from Johnson?s lips was famously removed at the order of the USPS, an ...
Muddy Waters - The Complete Plantation Recordings [1993]
2008-06-25 09:12:00
This is a treasure trove for the Muddy Waters fan, for the blues historian, for the country-blues enthusiast. Alan Lomax, searching for Robert Johnson (recently deceased), came through and recorded a young McKinley Morganfield. The rest is history. Early versions of future classics can be found on these field recordings from 1941-42, and the guitar and voice that would have unimaginable influence on blues and rock & roll. There's no Chicago yet in these often-scratchy recordings, but if you listen, you can hear where it came from. In 2004 Waters was ranked #17 in Rolling Stone Magazine's list of the 100 Greatest Artists of All Time. Muddy Waters comeback continued in 1979 with the lauded LP Muddy "Mississippi" Waters Live. "Muddy was loose for this one," wrote Jas Obrecht in Guitar Player, "and the result is the next best thing to being ringside at one of his foot-thumping, head-nodding, downhome blues shows."

2007-03-19 22:40:00
He may not have released his highly anticipated album "Red Gone Wild" yet, but Redman is already working on two new projects."I'm getting back into [the studio] with Muddy Waters 2 right after Red Gone Wild. I already did two songs for it. It ain't gonna be hard, because I'm gonna take it backwards," said Radman. "I'ma find old beats that sound like it was [created] during the whole Muddy Waters era. I ain't gonna reach for the new s**t."Redman is planning to follow-on where "Muddy Waters" left off, but said the release is only for his core fans as he only plans to manufacture and distribute a limited edition of 50,000 units.Redman also revealed he will be making a "How High" movie sequel with long-time friend and collaborator Method Man."The movie is being written - same people," Redman continued. Don't you hate it when you lose a CD, or more likely miss place it. So I'm surfing the web last night to see what other bloggers have to say about Muddy Waters and I come across this:Howling Wolf, Muddy Waters & Bo Diddley doing Sweet Little Angel mp3 @ www.kalamu.comWhich is accompanied with a cool post on the similarities of rap and the blues. A conversation that I have had many times. After listening to the mp3 I realize that I own a disk with this song on it, which caused me to search through some 400 disk or so, to no avail. This song is not on any of my Muddy Waters CDs, nor Howling Wolf CDs, or Bo Diddley CDs. But like as with most of my searches, there is a silver lining, I found several other disk that I have been looking for, for some time now.Other post about Muddy Waters @ SqueezeMyLemonIt's The Birthday Of Muddy WatersThe Official Muddy Waters Site & Downloadable Sound FilesMuddy Waters - InterviewLinks to other Muddy Waters mp3s @ other music blogsBlues Had a Bab...
