2008 Mugello Qualifying Report
2008-05-31 19:59:00 After yesterday's torrential rain, which even managed to influence this morning's final free practice session, the MotoGP regulars were delighted to be rolling out of the pits onto hot tarmac in warm sunshine. The weather had almost completely cleared up, the clouds hanging back in the Tuscan hills, granting the MotoGP riders a reprieve from the rain - at least for the moment. With so much time already lost to the conditions, the pack rolled out almost as one to set about the tricky business of finding a dry weather setup which will work. With hot sunshine forecast for the race tomorrow, and three sessions either blighted or at least impeded by rain, there was much to do. The pace was very fast right from the off, with Colin Edwards taking just over 6 minutes to drop into the 1'50s, and start approaching what looked likely to be race pace. Just a couple of minutes later, a group of riders had all set times well within the 1'50 bracket, and a realistic pace for tomorrow's race...

2008 Mugello FP2 Times Day 1 - Vermeulen Dominates In The Wet
2008-05-30 17:11:00 Both of today's sessions took place in the wet, but while the track dried out as FP1 progressed, FP2 took place in a proper downpour. With the track soaking, it's no surprise to see Chris Vermeulen's name at the top of the timesheets, the Suzuki man a renowned rain rider. Vermeulen dominated the last 10 minutes or so of the session, and was fast throughout. The big surprise was James Toseland. Toseland has only ridden the track testing a Ducati superbike, and on a brief test of the Ducati MotoGP bike after winning the World Superbike crown in 2004, but the British rookie spent a couple of days after the Le Mans Grand Prix testing rain tires for Michelin at Clermont Ferrand in France. His work has immediately started paying dividends, for until Vermeulen started running very quick times at the end of the session, Toseland was the man to beat. Honda's Pneumatic Valve Engine To Debut At Mugello - As A Wildcard

HRC will be wheeling out its pneumatic valve engine earlier than expected. After Honda decided not to bring the engine to Le Mans for the tests which are currently under way, it seemed the first place the air valve engine could make an appearance might be the test after the Catalunya round of MotoGP in Barcelona. Now, though, Honda has changed its mind. HRC's test rider Tady Okada has been entered as a wildcard ride for the race at Mugello on June 1st, and he will be riding the new version of the RC212V complete with pneumatic valve engine. Both Dani Pedrosa and Nicky Hayden have commented that the throttle response of the new engine is too nervous, and there have been persistent rumors about reliability. 2007-06-18 02:48:00 E’ stata un impresa che possiamo definire storica quella del Team UKGarage by Solaris Motorsport nella prova del Mugello dell’Italian Prototype Series che si è corsa ieri sul bel circuito toscano. Infatti con la vittoria di ieri il team italiano ha portato alla prima vittoria dell’era “moderna†un’automobile a motore di derivazione motociclistica, la Radical SR3 Supersport motorizzata PowerTec Suzuki. 2007-06-02 13:43:00 Though the session started under overcast skies once again, the weather gods held fire over Mugello this morning, allowing the third free practice to take place in dry, if not exactly glorious conditions. And as on Friday morning, it was once again Dani Pedrosa who dominated the morning's session. Pedrosa, who is using an updated chassis here, was consistently faster than the rest of the pack, running 1'50s for most of the session. Valentino Rossi set the second fastest time, finding decent pace on his last run of the session, the only other man to consistently get into the 1'50 bracket. Rossi edged out Casey Stoner, the Ducati man setting consistent low 1'51s throughout the session. 2007 Mugello Free Practice Sessions Report - Day 1
2007-06-02 00:49:00 Mugello started as Le Mans left off: With threatening weather conditions, which deteriorated as the day went on. The morning's session took place under dark skies, but remained dry, and it was Dani Pedrosa who set the fastest time. More impressively, Pedrosa was fast from early on, setting the fastest time halfway through the session, and staying nearly a second faster than the rest of the field for much of practice. It was only at the end that the rest started to catch up, with Valentino Rossi and John Hopkins within 3/10ths of a second. Casey Stoner and Carlos Checa followed, another 3/10ths behind Hopkins. The afternoon's session took place in a downpour, with most of the riders deciding to wait before going out, in the hope that the rain might let up later in the session.
