Blizzard senior VP Rob Pardo has confirmed that the company’s upcoming RTS sequel StarCraft II will not feature LAN multiplayer support. The only multiplayer available will be on Battle.net. IncGamers also got a clarification from Blizzard, shortly after the interview, saying the choice of excluding a LAN feature “is because of the planned technology to be incorporated into Battle.net,” a topic they will reveal more about at a later date. The original StarCraft gained popularity largely because of the easy LAN mode, used on massive LANs like Dreamhack or small personal networks between friends, so this is a surprising move by Blizzard. Personally, I’m really surprised by the news. What year are we already in, Mr Blizzard? They include: Team Deathmatch: A straight-up shootout (and presumably hitandrunout) where the team with the most cash at the end of the round wins. For between two and eight teams. Team Mafiya Work: Each team is carrying out contract work for the mob - escorting wanted men, boosting cars, picking up MacGuffins, and the idea is to amass the most cash from completed contracts. Halo.fr recently sat down with Graeme Devine of Ensemble Studios regarding Halo Wars. Of particular interest in the (interestingly translated) interview is further talk about how long multiplayer games should last. While it was reported earlier this year that Ensemble expects a typical match to last from 15-30 minutes -- RTS fanatics know that this is pretty short for the genre -- Devine notes that games can feasibly range from 10 to 45 minutes with the average landing at around 20 minutes. Probably the other most noticeable tidbit was Devine's response regarding local multiplayer. When asked about whether or not local mutliplayer was an option, Devine responded, "You can play against the AI in skirmish mode. That's a large component of the game." Announced yesterday, the new Turok Multiplayer Map Pack is now available on the Xbox Live Marketplace at the nice price of 400 Microsoft points. This 307.7MB download features five multiplayer maps including Break Out, Desolation, Sentinel, Inconclusive Tests and A Rivalry Continues each breaking down to around $1 per map. The pricing isn't too shabby, but we have a feeling that if it were priced any higher this DLC would only be downloaded by a few dozen fanboys. We're just being honest ... sorry.
