Are you buying music on Amie Street yet?
2008-05-24 21:33:00
I wrote about Amie Street back in 2006 and have always been a fan. It’s a music service where the fans determine the price of each song. The more times each song is downloaded, the more expensive they get. Prices are capped at $0.99. The beauty of it is that bands keep 70% of the ...
Top 10 Music Technology Concepts
2007-12-04 13:40:00
With the music industry having to contort itself to the whim of the buyer for the first time possibly in its’ entire history the marketing departments of various labels have been working hard to keep up with demand and keep the buyer interested.  Releasing things on YouTube, Myspace, etc just doesn’t cut it any more - as for just releasing a CD via a regular poster campaign, PAH! Here’s a top 10 of what I’ve liked over the past 12 months or so. 1. Batch Totem - retro floppy disk format release for “Trunkeret & Ikonisk”.. I love this - as everyone and their performing chimps are trying to find new and innovative ways to release music this band have released an album on the near-obselete floppy disk format, managing to cram 74 minutes of music into 1.44MB of space. “Trunkeret & Ikonisk” consists of 19 tracks, which are heavily compressed in the GSM 6.10 WAV format, at various bitrates. The album is on the Ristretto label, and ...

Shout-out to Sweet St Music Technology
2007-10-04 13:07:00
I want to thank Chuck Brown of Sweet St. Music Technology for sponsoring my Buy Me a Lego campaign. I took a look around his site, interested as I was, because I’m an amateur musician myself (I play piano). I used to play alto sax in middle school, but never became great at it. Anyway, ...
Home Recording Techniques Part II
2007-07-13 17:51:00
Right, where were we? In the previous part, we laid down a very simple MIDI drum part and bass line for a 6 bar ‘jingle’. Next it’s time to get some real instruments on there. For this example I am going to use my guitar, I have plugged my guitar into the back of my PC ...
Home Recording Techniques part I (Setup/Sequencers/MIDI basics)
2007-07-09 17:04:00
As you may be aware, the whole process of music production has taken a giant leap forward in the last 10 years. This is all due to the increase in computer technology, and we?d be silly not to take advantage of it. The few times I have paid for recording sessions, I have never ever ...
The Top 25 Music Education and Music Technology Blogs As Listed By Technora
2007-05-25 06:13:00
AN URGENT CALL: HELP ME COMPLETE THIS LIST!  Well, I have to tell you I honestly tried to put together this list but? we?re awful as music educators getting the word out about our blogs.   There are only 133 out of 70+million blogs in the world labeled as ?music education? in Technorati.  Of those 133, about half of them are ?fake? blogs or ?splogs? and have nothing to do with music education. So, graciously, taking the the number ?66? for real ?music education blogs?, we find that those listed on Technorati make up a mere .00000008% of the blogs in the world. Woot! Interestingly enough, I started this topic with the idea of only considering Music Education blogs.  I couldn?t find enough relevant blogs within the results while searching for the term ?Music Education? so I added ?Music Technology? to the ?mix? and expanded the search.  I still couldn?t fill the list!  Now? I know that there are a few...
Top 5 Products for Listening to Your Music
2007-05-15 16:46:00
Okay, so this is really limited to the top 5 products available in my house. I talk quite a bit about the albums and bands I’m listening to, but I rarely write anything about the products I buy to enhance the listening experience. Full disclosure: My wife is an employee at Plantronics, which owns Altec Lansing, ...
An Indie Multimedia Search Tool
2007-05-11 16:35:00
One of our readers (appears to be an independent developer, hence the title of this post) created a nice multimedia search tool that I tested out and love. I’m always scouring different websites for mp3’s and images to post on our little indie music blog and it can get pretty time consuming. Anything ...
