Campaign musings: Will Obama win the Presidency but lose the popular vote?
2008-10-02 06:37:00
By Jefferson Flanders Will Sen. Barack Obama win the Electoral College vote, and thus the American presidency, but lose the popular vote on Election Day 2008? It’s not an entirely implausible scenario. The Democratic presidential nominee leads Republican candidate John McCain in the national polls (as can be seen in RealClearPolitics’ poll compilation), and has moved ...
Random Musings: 90210
2008-10-02 02:02:00
As SMALLVILLE fans know all too well, the CW is never slow to jump on a product placement opportunity. Which is why this TV Addict has spent the better part of Wednesday scratching his head as to how the fledgling network completely missed the ball when it comes to 90210 and the loads of cash they could be making from the incredibly obvious cell phone tie in. Let’s face it, if Emmy’s were given out this early in the season for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama, Kelly and Brenda’s cellphone carrier would most definitely have to be considered a top five candidate. Thanks to brilliance that is Sprint, Verizon, T-Mobile and/or AT&T’s cellphone network [See how easy that was? To paraphrase 30 ROCK’s Tina Fey, can theTVaddict.com have our money now!?], 90210 showrunners Gabe Sachs and Jeff Judah have managed to keep fans, not to mention Kelly and Brenda connected to original cast members Brandon and Dylan without (a) having pay them or (b) having to beg, p...
Random Musings: TERMINATOR, HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER & THE BIG BANG THEORY
2008-10-01 00:12:00
Just as God no doubt intended, this TV Addict spent his Rosh Hashanah afternoon off by enjoying a mini marathon of Monday night television. With, in the spirit of the holiday, a side of Apples and Honey. HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER Even a song courtesy of Dr. Horrible himself, Neil Patrick Harris wasn’t enough to save last night’s far from stellar installment of HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER. Not only did Marshall’s quest for the perfect burger hit a little too close to home, with this TV Addict’s all-time favorite Burger joint located thousands of miles across the country [see: Splitz in Whistler, BC]. I couldn’t help but find Barney’s shameless love affair with his company’s new client, the fictional Goliath National Bank somewhat depressing considering the economic crisis millions of Americans currently finding themselves in. TERMINATOR: THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES With SyFy Portal reporting that “FOX could pull the plug on production of TERMINAT...
IMPORTANCE OF WEB HOSTING
2008-09-13 09:22:00
As I have promised, I made this in continuation with my previous post about understanding web hosting. So, just a quick review, web hosting is the physical storage of files like hard disks on computers where huge files can be placed. Web hosting companies provide servers in which data are stored and smooth connectivity to the internet is guaranteed. Then why the heck it's very important to businesses? Well, that is a question We will tackle now. There are so many things why web hosting is important to businesses. The first thing is that people tend to rely on the internet regarding convenience. When you have a website for your business, it will be easy for you to post your products. It looks like you have an online shop where customers can select what they like. It is also very convenient because your business operates 24/7. You can also accept payments off line via Paypal or credit cards.Web hosting varies from prices to security. One thing you have to be careful though, you need t...

CREDIT CARD APPLICATION
2008-09-10 18:12:00
There are things you need to consider when applying to have credit cards. Of course, you need to take a look at your credit rating. The better rating, the better chances of acquiring the best credit card option. You also need to consider that when applying, it doesn't necessarily mean that you are okay and good to go. The authority to issue all credit cards simultaneously rests with the issuer(The bank or the financial institution), who will first ensure whether you have a reliable financial background and you are in good faith. You should also compare different features the credit card options have: fluctuating interest rates, Annual Percentage Rates (APR s),credit limits, fees associated, penalties, billing cycles, grace periods, specs for cash advances and balance transfers, rewards, and other implied costs. If I were to choose, I would rather go for a low interest credit card. You also need to choose a card that best suits you. You may select from personal credit cards to busines...

LUCKY YOU!
2008-09-07 11:13:00
I like Eric Bana. I might have not watched all of his movies (I just actually watched one, and it's incredible hulk) but his acting style is considerably one of the best among Hollywood male celebrities. One of his movies that I wish I had watched on a wide screen was "Lucky you". The film was about a guy (Eric Bana who plays Huck Cheever) who is very skillful as a Poker player but fails to translate his talent into his love life attempts to win the World Series of Poker while earning the love of a Las Vegas singer, Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore). There is one obstacle though as his rival on the game is his father (Robart Duvall), the poker legend who left them years ago.I wonder if the thrill is the same if they play the game on the internet. Will Huck feel the same tension? Will the prize be bigger? Lucky us! Flipturnriver.com gives us a wonderful shot on the hottest Poker games around the net. FULFILLING FULFILLMENT
2008-09-04 18:29:00
Tracking the orders for the item has never been easy. It is okay if customers will just ask about the tracking information but once they can not locate their item, that's how the waterloo starts. You need to consider multiple factors in locating the item. First, you need to check the record for the fulfillment date of the order. (Fulfillment stage is where the customer has already paid for the order and the item/s will be ready to be shipped out from the seller's warehouse.). You also need to check how many days will the item will be shipped out through the order fulfillment section. These ship out process usually happens within the business days so you have to check your calendar for such.Obviously, you also need to check the carriers of the item. It can be through USPS, FedEx, UPS, UPSMI, and FedEx Smart post (and DHL sometimes). then you can check if the item is still on its way or if it has already been delivered. If it had already passed the delivery date, you still have to c...

2008-09-02 18:13:00
I heard that Chalfont is one of the nicest places that you must visit in Pennsylvania...Here are the famous landmarks you might want to check when you happen to pass by at their place.Borough building??? Yup, you're seeing it right! Tony D's Hairstyling is a one Helluva package. It is a hair salon chalont that offers a wide variety of hair services for both sexes. Aside from the hair services, they also provide spas that you would surely indulge. Imagine yourself being pampered to the highest extent with their full service salon chalfont. Another thing that makes it interesting are the products that they offer. The hair salon chalont color, also known as the organic hair color gives you your hair's natural glow and shine for the color of your choice. Since it is organic, you could be assured that there are no chemicals and other substances added that might damage your hair. CRIBS AND LUGGAGES
2008-09-01 05:30:00
I just purchased a copy of a Showbiz magazine whereas the famous Filipino celebrities' cribs were featured. Well, taking the fact that they're rich and famous, you should expect that their pads are as gorgeous and stylish as far as your imagination will take you. My favorite then was Ricky Reyes's.Aside from the fabulous interiors, the celebrities also showcased their prized possessions. One that I remember was Heart Evangelista's set of Designer luggage bags. It was all Louis Vuitton. How I wish could strut at the famous Italian streets with all those fantastic luggage bags!I'd rather take my chances here at villageluggageandgifts.com. You can really find all over a hundred or even thousand designs to choose from. Aside from going to a luggage store, you might want to click here and see it for yourself.
Gustav, Katrina Musings
2008-08-29 20:47:00
I have spent the last couple of days preparing for Gustav and having panic attacks. I really have no idea what I am doing.I really don't want to be here during a hurricane and I really don't want to sit in my car with my girls and my pets for hours on end in non moving traffic off to parts unknown. I checked the hotels for 600 miles and none are available. The closest hotels I could find were in Tennessee. Some of my friends are leaving tonight to miss the traffic and they already have hotel reservations. I could make a reservation and go hang out in Tennessee until the storm hits. I could stay here and wait to see where the storm is going to hit. They are now saying it will hit in Western Louisiana and we wont get wind over 50 MPH here. In that case it seems prudent to stay home. If I chose to stay home, to wait and see and only evacuate if we get the order to evacuate then I will have to evacuate with the masses. Another friend told me that during an evacuation it take...
LIfe at the mountain....
2008-08-25 04:40:00
It has been eight years since I was selected as one of the lucky few to enter the Philippine High School for the Arts. Of course, as the name says, the institution is aimed to hone the selected students' skill in their particular Art Major. Like me, my Major is Visual Arts. The school is located at one of the peaks of Mt. Makiling. Obviously, our place is quite secluded and high. The view was very nice. Since we are on a mountain, the only time we can go to our homes is during weekends. Dormitories and food were provided for our stay. I can say that living on the mountain is a different experience especially if you came from an urban area. You listen to the tune of the cicadas roaming around the trees outside your room, you hear the giant lizard's grunts to signal that a rain is approaching, and you also share spooky stories with your roommates in the glow of the lamps during midnight. Speaking of lamps, each and every student has a unique one. We were required to use it (just i...
TRADE SHOW GALORE!
2008-08-23 05:20:00
I am so happy I experienced even for once to attend a Trade show. I remember when I was still in college, our Dean invited me to go with him to the Philippine Trade Center to witness the different Filipino made products being showcased to attract foreign market and subsequently, for export. Our Dean was also invited there to conduct a seminar regarding Franchise Management. I was so astounded as I entered the hall. I never expected to be as grand as that. The trade show displays are so enticing that you would really visit each and every stall. The products vary from food to handicrafts and furniture. The hall is also filled with people from different parts of the country. The stall that gathered so much attention was the SPA booth. They had these huge banner stands that really attracted visitors. They have a miniature spa (and they even put bermuda grasses to make it look real!) in which people can have try. I figured out then that you really need to make your stall very presentab...
LEGO MANIA
2008-08-22 12:20:00
Oh my, oh my.. How I love my childhood days. I might not be as athletic and active as any normal child during that time (Yes, I do not know how to swim nor ride a bike that time--shoot.) but I can say that I am not a total loser because I have lots of cousins and friends whom I can come up with alternative toys and games (those that not require expensive toys, biking and other extremes). Also, my mom made me surrounded with lots of amazing "detachable" blocks to rollick at."Detachable" blocks eh? Haha! I am talking about Lego. Thanks to my cousin who enticed me to have one too. He handed me a catalog and it was Outrageous! There are lots of stuff like people and trees and all things that you can think of! I was so intrigued that I persuaded my mom to go to the mall with me to buy one. My first "real" Lego then was a mini castle with a glowing ghost and a knight riding on a horse! I did not become contended with that set so I eventually bought another one, then another one, until I ca...

Southern Fried Musings
2008-07-22 14:34:00
It's not so hot here in the deep south, unless you go outside. Yesterday, we had a ton of errands and seemed to get only far away parking spaces. Living a sheltered life, from air conditioned house to air conditioned car, I had no idea it was hotter than an oven out there. We only have two weeks until school starts. The other day Jeff said something, I wasn't really listening, and it included bla, bla, bla eight years of marriage. I looked at him like he was crazy. Have I really been married eight years, seems like just yesterday. Actually he is exaggerating, it wont be eight years until November. Lily is five and starting kindergarten, Jeff and I have been married for nearly eight years, and our Mandy is just shy of 18. Didn't I just graduate from hight school last week? I really had this out of body moment of wondering where has all the time gone.Jeff asked me the other day if I still needed to have Saturday off. Seeing as I will be off all week while Lily is in scho...
Guide to Summer - Chapter 2

Chapter 2: Fish! You can fish in the summer! Fish may not be delicious to everyone, but they always are if you catch them yourself. That tasty flavor is not fish, it’s pride. All you need is a pole, some fishing line, a hook, some bait, maybe a bobber…probably a net, and ...

Musings of a former analyst
2008-06-19 02:00:00
Morning all, Welcome to my new blog, where I'll be musing upon the weird and occasionally fascinating world of security information and event management (SIEM). Before we start, though, people might have a few questions that I'll try to answer right now. Didn't you used to be an analyst? Yep, I used to cover the SIEM space for Forrester, as well as a bunch of data security and architecture topics. However, all good things must come to an end - I was certainly approaching the end of my shelf life in that world. It was a privilege, though, as I got to spend a huge amount of time talking to people about their security priorities and looking at how that translated into requirements for new tools and ways of doing things. Now I get to help turn these conversations and ideas into something tangible...

NFL Musings: The Evil Patriots, Specter, Raider Competence, and More!
2008-06-07 06:50:00
The action picks up in what Senator Specter calls his ?war room? near his office in Washington, DC. The ?war room? is where Senator Specter goes to discuss current events, potential Senate business, and his planned accomplishments for the day. In the room with him are his two top advisers, Joey Porter and Donovan McNabb. Joey Porter: I just read that oil has gone up something stupid?like $15 per barrel. That means gas is going to end up something crazy, like $5 per gallon. Donovan McNabb: Unemployment is way up as well, higher than it?s been since the 1980s. I just saw the announcement on CNN. Senator Specter: I also read that inflation was way up again, Israel just threatened to bomb Iran, and the Real World house is in shambles now that they drunk kid is coming back from rehab. What the heck should we do? Which crisis do I address first? I am an important Senator, after all. Joey Porter: How about getting me my Super Bowl ring! Donovan McNabb: Yeah, Belichick is a cheat...
Cooking with Anna: Involtini e Melenzane
2008-06-04 16:54:00
So we are going to go back in time a little with this post. I hope you all don’t mind the time warp this blog sometimes is! It is hard sometimes figuring out when to post what! The life of a food blogger is all about organization…and sometimes the lack thereof. Anyway, as you all know, the week before our wedding, Anna, Roberto’s mom came to stay with us. She is a food blogger and member of The Foodie Blogroll! Her blog AnnaGarau.com features recipes from her native Sardinia. It is a great blog, full of wonderful anecdotes about Sardinia as well as beautiful pictures and she is quite the chef. It is in Italian, so if you want to check it out, and I recommend that you do, use one of those handy dandy translators like this translator from Google. You can even watch a video of traditional Sardinian dancing and singing - something Sardinians are known for. When she was here at our house, she was updating that post and we were having such a good time. I was really ...

Random musings on Yves Saint Laurent Paris
2008-06-02 22:08:00
In a sense, I was influenced by Après L'Ondée (1906). I love Guerlain fragrances, but I said to myself that, if I were to make Après L'Ondée today, it would be much lighter, airier, younger. Some pieces I wouldn't use. So Paris started as an imagined Après L'Ondée. Obviously, in Après L'Ondée, you don't have roses in the background, but I had the skeleton of a very creamy violet note. Then I worked on the rose to put with it. That's perfumer Sophia Grojsman talking about the genesis of Yves Saint Laurent Paris (from Michael Edwards' Perfume Legends: French feminine fragrances, p. 200), her first fragrance. Paris debuted in 1983, and was the perfect fragrance for the time: I wore it, my mother wore it, some days it seemed like everyone wore it (and plenty of it, more about which below). Paris opens fruity and bright and big, with a happy, optimistic air. The heart is lush, jammy roses softened by Grojsman's "creamy violet note". Yves Saint Laurent had reportedly chosen the ...
Herbal Abundance: What to do with a plethora of herbs?
2008-06-02 17:40:00
Summer is here and with it comes a fresh plethora of herbs! If you are like me, sometimes you get really excited about that and can’t help but scoop up big bunches of fresh herbs when you see them at the Farmers Markets or the grocery store. Then you end up throwing half of them away after they have sat rotting in your fridge for days on end…well that is just no good. Herbs are a wonderful way to get more greens into your diet and many of them also have other health properties - not to mention they improve the smell of ones breath! So what does one do with an over abundance of herbs? On a recent trip to the Farmers Market I procured rather large bunches of Arugala, Basil, Mint and Dill. I brought them home, filled up some vases with water, stuck the herbs in the vases and put them promptly into the fridge to use whenever the mood took me. Then, said herbs, sat all pretty in my fridge for about 2 weeks. I had barely touched them. They were still looking pretty good, but ...

PinoyBlogoSphere.com - Reflections and Musings #1
2008-05-29 08:07:00
Source: www.PinoyBlogoSphere.com - I had an entry lined up to address Bishop Tobias’ letter to the IC, but I think I’ll just maybe share my thoughts with you all tonight. There’s a short back story to this so bear with me please. I had been working on a “gift” that I’ve been meaning to give the CFC Home Office/Center for quite sometime now, but it was only recently that I figured out how to put it together properly and cohesively. If you read the response by the MMC in this entry, you’ll see that the home office has had some issues in communicating with its database of leaders and members because the person in charge joined the FFL. I encountered this verse during my search for a solution for that: He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore. - I...

VP search: political musings for the week

Summer is upon us, it's Memorial Day weekend, and I've been blurbing and musing on 2008's presidential candidates and the required search for a VP candidate to share the ticket: VP search: too many senators has a few points I've been pondering this week concerning senatorial egos, piggish governors, Obama's Israel shout-out, and Hillary's crystal ball for June horrors, among other things. Random Musings: GREY’S ANATOMY & UGLY BETTY Season Finales
2008-05-23 17:36:00
Last night’s two-hour season finale of GREY’S ANATOMY was the reason PVR/DVR’s were invented. Every few minutes there was a moment — be it a much anticipated kiss between Callie and Dr. Hahn, a surprising rant from Dr. Bailey revealing her penchant for Star Wars, Christina finally re-discovering her unequaled passion for surgery, George and Lexi, Alex’s Emmy—worthy breakdown and of course Meredith’s grand romantic gesture — that warranted a rewind and re-watch ohhh… only a few dozen times! Unfortunately, the same can’t be said for UGLY BETTY. While last night’s season finale was certainly an improvement over the show’s previous few episodes, this TV Addict still finds a few things troubling. No, not the ridiculously overhyped and underwhelming Lindsay Lohan cameo or the out-of-left field long-lost son that has inconspicuously popped up in Daniel’s life. Rather, taking a page from SMALLVILLE and THE OC, BETTY’s ...
My Foray into Artisan Gelato By Way of Ice Cream: Recipe: Tamarind Ice Crea
2008-05-21 16:50:00
For the longest time I have had a dream that one day I would own a Gelateria - a quaint little storefront brightly colored and smelling of heavenly delights. The setting would of course be in a quaint little town, preferably historic and with cobblestones, where I would hone my creative juices to a simple yet delectable gastronomic experiment. This town would be full of people who appreciate fine foods and artistry or maybe just a constant stream of tourists looking for a unique snack. My life would essentially be like the movie Chocolat, but instead of chocolates, I would be making gelato, because just like Vianne, I believe that good food, filled with fine ingredients, that speak to people’s hearts and souls, can change lives and ultimately make people happier. I have always had a deep respect for artisans of food. Those craftsmen and women who dedicate their lives to a single creative outlet and do it great - with purpose and passion. I am talking about cheesemakers, ha...
