The Sanity Rally Is My Generation's Woodstock - And I'll Be There
2010-10-29 01:11:00 I spent most of 2008 going from political rally to political rally. I think I shook hands with eight or nine of the Presidential candidates that year. Among the highlights were when I covered the Iowa Caucuses, when I showed up at the Democratic National Convention in Denver without a ticket, made a sign and was given one by a delegate. And on Election Night, I was in the front row as Obama was announced as the winner. I just had to be there.I felt like I had been a part of something, like I had made a difference in the world. The youth (whatever that means) finally had spoken and got the guy who would look out for them...
Bye-bye 'Lone Star,' 'My Generation': Networks need to
2010-10-05 08:48:00 I'm distressed by the quick cancellation of ABC's "My Generation" and Fox's "Lone Star" after each show aired only two episodes. Sure, they were low-rated outings, but I don't think any show can attract an audience, let alone a fan base, after two episodes. Both shows were up against stiff competition. Their networks could have tested them in different time periods. In a perfect TV world--and we definitely don't have one at the moment--networks would stay loyal to their shows for at least half a season so they could find that audience. I think that may have worked for "Lone Star," which made it onto several critics' lists of the best new shows, including my own. Fox premiered the...
TV Review - 'My Generation'
2010-09-24 16:17:00 I don't know if you remember a little show called The Class from a few years ago. It starred Jason Ritter and Jesse Tyler Ferguson and Lucy Punch and Lizzy Caplan and that one guy who died in The Pacific. And it was horrible. And it was only a half hour. My Generation is an hour-long The Class. The Good: I love the idea, in theory, of tracking the same high school grads for 10 years to see how their lives turned out. The Bad: It's just too, too much. There are too many characters. The characters are still too connected to each other (even though most of them didn't run around in the same social circles in high school). It's...

THE WHO. MY GENERATION.
2008-05-29 17:50:00 The Who live at the monterey international pop festival. THE WHO an English band of the 60`s that headed next to The Small Phases and The Creation, among others, the Mod movement. Integrated by Pete Townshend (guitar and main composer) Keith Moon (battery), John Entwistle (under) and Roger Daltrey (voice). Its second disc ?A quick one? contains the single ?a quick one while he's away? the first mini opera of Pete Townshend, that later would write ?Tommy?, his first opera rock, and perhaps the album of greater relevance of this band. The Who stood out of the rest by its incredible activities on the scene, with Townshend giving jumps, touching the guitar with its characteristic movement of arm as if they were the vanes of a mill, Moon with action, touching the battery as he only knew to do it, a serious Entwistle, as if he was outside the situation surrounded, and trying to move away of madnesses of Moon and Townshend, Daltrey bouncing his microphone in the air, and all this dementia...
Talkin ?bout My Generation
2008-05-07 17:21:00 Interesting post by Jimmy Biblarz on Gen Y. I agree that way too often each generation is labeled with names that don’t do any of us a bit of good. To me, Generation Y is the savviest, most knowledgeable civic-minded generation in our world right now. Let’s drop the labels and start embracing this generation!
Protest in the 60's and 70's Versus Today: Talkin' Bout My Generation
2008-04-04 06:15:00 Earlier this week I received a letter from an intern who worked for us at Jugular Advertising last year. S is from Lafayette College, my alma mater. We both participated in a McKelvy House program there that focused on topical issues. The topic last Sunday was whether and why the 60's and 70's were the gold standard of judgement for protest...while there was less activism from this generation. S asked what my view was. It's below. Take a look at her email at the bottom of the string and then my response (think it's long, but worth it but, hell, I wrote it...I'm biased). It's dedicated to the memory of the remarkably articulate giant of a man Martin Luther King who was assasinated FORTY years ago today. King's speeches are monumental moments in the 20th century New Media of live political television.Hi S:I did get this, and I'm not ignoring you. Things are just crazy busy. I wanted to get you a somewhat considered answer.Funny...I had seen the Friedman article when it origin...

Talkin' ‘Bout My Generation
2007-12-10 14:24:00 There is some fear that a "brain-drain" is underway as more executives reach retirement age. For example, executive development firm RHR International predicts that half of all companies will lose half of their senior managers by 2010. Not only that, but three-quarters of these companies believe the

The Who Live at Woodstock 1969: My Generation
2007-05-27 07:04:00 Woodstock was certainly one of the crowning moments from rock and roll, producing some of the most memorable performances in history, including this one by the Who. Not many bands are as rock and roll as the Who, and few songs better capture the rock and roll spirit than ?My Generation?. I’ve been a ...

The Zimmers - My Generation
2007-05-04 05:47:00 The Zimmers are a really interesting concept coming from Britain. A filmmaker put together a lot of seniors and put a video project around it. Well, well it could just be another creative idea what so ever, but it is actually produced by Mike Hedges (U2, Dido, Cure), shot by Geoff Wonfor (Band Aid, Beatles ...

Letters to ?Interview?: I Hate My Generation
2007-01-25 20:53:01 A friend of ours was between jobs and freelancing for a major celebrity-oriented publication when she was assigned the unpleasant task of selecting the "letters to the editor" for the mag. "It was so depressing," she recounted. "I had always assumed half of them were made up. But no, people really cared about this shit." A propos of that, here's a letter from the latest Interview. Can you imagine what they don't publish? Click to englarge. |
