2009-09-21 15:42:00 Sometimes the amount of stuff people have dilutes the joy each individual item brings to them. I'm attracted to shiny, beeping things like Eliot Spitzer is to hookers, and bask in the glow of LCD light like George Hamilton does UV radiation, but I had so much tech that those square things with all of the buttons seemed like a bother rather than a help. It was especially annoying tripping over something you didn't use when a minute earlier you were writing checks to the credit card company (I have the Amazon card so that every once in a while I can buy something else I don't need). As much as cluttered life is suffocating, cleaning and consolidating is refreshing and invigorating. Mrs. Asymmetric and I have been selling much of our technology. I started by getting rid of the Onkyo stereo amplifier and Polk speakers that dominated our living room. He stopped painting and claims our house must be two colors until he gets all the new windows in. Which might make sense if I knew anything about house projects I ever felt like agreeing with him. Today he’s putting in a window, leftover from the replacing windows project of 1843, although this is not technically replacing a window. So, perhaps this is a separate create-a-window-where-there-nev-er-was-a-window project also of 1843? But do you notice anything about this photo? Like, he’s not there? Right. Besides the rain that stopped me doing more photos of places I've been to before, so many people around me seem to be having so much activity in their lives they insist on sharing in detail I thought was confined to my grandma, and all I can do is nod and say very little. When I have activity in my life I rarely mention it as I am quite busy enough doing it. I talk far more about what isn't happening than what is, and have so much time on my hands. And do they fucking moan! Because they aren't getting exactly what they want (while I am getting precisely nothing) all they see are the holes while everyone else sees the cheese. And there's nothing I can do to get any of my own without paying for it, which I have never done.So my quest to drag someone out of the past continues, with no more results than stage one where I've discovered them and then goes straight to eliminating them. I'm still not sure if it's worse when they do...

Part of what I do is collections and family law work, which means I'm always in the process of trying to find out about people's pasts, sometimes when they would rather that I didn't.That doesn't require investigators, bribes, and guns, like it did in the old days (2002). Instead, it just requires a computer and the Government Registry of Divorce records, which has easy and pretty-much-instantaneous online access to things like Texas Divorce Records -- or divorce records from any other state. It's just a quick search, and a nominal fee for some information, and I've got the information I need.So, less exciting -- but more convenient. Life's a trade-off.
