My Story "Dinosaurs Divorce" Published on The Writing Site
2008-06-04 18:02:00
My story "Dinosaurs Divorce", an excerpt from one of my novels-in-progress, won an honorable mention in the 2007 Arthur Edelstein Prize for Short Fiction from The Writing Site, an online resource for fiction writers, and is now posted on their website. (For reasons that are not evident in this early chapter, this post is not actually a departure from our "Pride Month" theme...) Here's the opener: We were gypsies, we were grifters, we were untenured faculty. After I was born, my mother left her beloved Manhattan and we embarked on the wandering life of an adjunct poetry professor, which as you might expect is about as lucrative as it was in Chaucer's day, adjusted for inflation. "And where are you from, Prudence?" Mrs. Litwin or Barone or Vasquez would chirp as I stood up before yet another elementary-school class, and I'd proudly recite, "New York and Cleveland and Durham and Lackawanna and..." I must have sounded like a train conductor.I probably didn't appreciate how little mo...

There was a commercial run years ago about some schmuck stuck in a dead-end job. Heidelberg? I’m going where ...

It's Not 'My' Story but It's So Cute I Have to Tell It Anyway
2008-05-07 18:55:00
I think bloggers that have small children have so much more interesting fodder for the blog. Once your kids older like mine, and you work inside the home instead in an asylum... err, I mean office building, you have less to work with! LOL. So this is a story from my best friend last week that is just so cute I have to tell it. Of course I won't use names to keep it anonymous. My best friend

My Story of Following Him Out
2008-04-07 19:34:00
This is the story of my journey following Jesus out of church-as-we-know-it. When I first followed Him out in 2003, I had never heard of "emerging" or "organic church" or "missional." In fact, I've only recently become aware of these movements. And I was pleasantly surprised to find that God has taken a number of people on this journey, and spoke to them many of the same things He was speaking to my husband and I. Anyway, here's my story:I left church primarily because I was I was discontent with my own spiritual barrenness, and the barrenness of the churches in my city. None of us were producing new believers. People were switching churches, so some churches experienced ?growth? from that. But the kingdom was remaining static. It was not growing in my city, and that broke me. I began to question why we were so inwardly focused on our own spiritual transformation while millions of hurting people outside the walls were ignored. Besides, I began to wonder why we thought that sitting...

Hi all. I'm new to hopecube.I decided to join this in hope to share w/others of what I've been through. It's good to know you're not alone. I was molested as a child,by a family friend. He would touch my privates and get me to perform oral sex on him.I was about 5 yrs old.He would tell me that his penis was a lollipop. This man still visits my grandma's house and sits to have coffee and conversation with her. When he sees me he says Hi and I can't help but think does he even know that he screwed up my life?Does he know that I rem all the disgusting things he did while I was a young child? I had told my mom and she had confronted him.My grandmother told her that if she believed me cause young kids really don't tell the truth.Nothing more was ever done. I grew up a single child and my mom a single mother.WHen I was about 8 years old I remember going to a family members house where my cousin and I would be in the room watching tv and me trying to se...

My Story
2008-02-11 11:19:00
Hi,My name is Fernando Sucre,My first illegal act was involved armed robbery with a revolver pointed right at the shopkeeper - only to take 100 dollars. I later repeated the act to earn the money for the engagement ring I intended to give to Maricruz my love, only to be turned in by my own cousin, Hector. During this time at Fox River Penitentiary I appeared to be in good terms with almost all correctional officers and other inmates prior to the prison break. I easily become one of the members of the Fox River Eight whose loyalty towards Michael is unquestionable, with the other one being Lincoln Burrows. I also has a knack for making unconventional and seemingly-mundane yet effective strategies from time to time, as seen when I managed to successfully cover up the hole that Scofield's PI crew dug up. My ability to come up with bizarre improvisations makes me just about as intellectually formidable as Michael is. Outside, I displayed being able to hot wire various vehicles in recor...

Quit Smoking Tips - My Story
2008-02-07 03:53:00
It’s time to quit. Let’s face it, smoking is no longer the norm in society. It seems most restaurants and bars have banned smoking in their facilities. If you live in California you can not smoke any where except the privacy of your own home. I know first hand that even the prospect of quitting produces a feeling of panic in most smokers mind. It is probably true that if you are reading this you did not just recently picked up smoking; you have been doing it years or decades. You really don’t see the reasons to quit until they are starring you in the face. Unfortunately for a lot of people, the will to quit doesn’t come in until we are faced with our own mortality. You hear all of the reasons to quit all the time. Smoking kills plain and simple. Heart Diseases, the risk of Heart attack and numerous Cancer’s to say the least. You think the simple statement that Smoking Kills would be enough to scare most people straight into quitting, but it doesn’...

Exerpts: My Story
2008-01-30 11:46:00
I will be out of town for the next few days to "catch up" on a few things in my life. In the meantime, I decided to leave two exerpts from my autobiography-one for today and one that will post tomorrow. They come directly from my paper I sent in to the Capuchins. As I mentioned before, I wrote 5 smaller stories instead of one 5 page paper. The idea was to focus on certain times in my life, what they meant, and what I draw from those experiences. I had a chance to call the Vocations Director in Chicago and let him proofread the paper before I even submitted it. He loved it, so I'm confident it will work out well.Enjoy, and I will see you all again when I get back in town. -V - "In memory of your death and resurrection, we offer this life-giving bread and this saving cup…"By age 17 I’d memorized most of the Eucharistic Prayer. My story

In 2001 I was diagnosed with Lupus. It was quite frightening. I'd only been a Christian a few years & was having some difficulty understanding. I had begun to walk in the Healing ministry & had seen God heal a few people by using me, but, here I was ill.Lupus is a strange Illness. I did my research & realized I was in trouble. "Lean upon the Lord". That is all I had. There is no cure for Lupus & it is a try & see with maintaining your health.A few months after I was diagnosed I got fluid on my heart. This caused the Doctors to put me on steroids. Now, the Lupus had already messed up my thyroid so I had gained weight, but, with the steroids I gained 150 pounds. I had always been thin, sometimes to thin - this was difficult for me. Not, difficult in the esteem department, difficult for me to carry around. So, I ended up on a cane.God told me one night that I would be sick for two years. This was good news - not knowing if he meant I'd be dead or he...

My Story in the Beginning, Stacy O'Quinn
2007-11-13 17:41:00
My StoryTwo and a half years ago I was in the Air Force and had been in the Air Force for 8 years. Extremely patriotic, I absolutely loved the military. But working 50-60 hours a week, traveling to over 17 countries with out my family, 116,000 dollars in debt, stressed out and only making 25,000 a year as a household income we had to have another solution. I started going to school at night and spending more time away from my family in hopes of creating a better lifestyle. That is when I first heard about working from home and owning your own small business from home. I did nothing for seven months. Not faced with many other options and hearing about Dani Johnson?s training. We, started our own business in July 2005. After attending a two day seminar called First Steps to success in September the month of October became our first 5 figure month we made 13,000 dollars. January 21st became my last day in the military. Dani?s training applied to our business has revolutionized ...
My story with Football Manager 2007: Lazio/Inter, the 4th season
2007-10-20 15:54:00
New season, old expectations - win Seria A and reach the final of Champions League. I decided that?s should be determinative season for our team. We must win Seria A at any price!!! Transfers before during the low season:Bought GK: Matteo Sereni (Parma) ? Free DEF: Armand Traore (Arsenal) ? Free, Micah Richards (Man City) ? $17M, Alessandro Potenza (Fiorentina) ? $2M MID: Matthias Lehmann (Aachen) -Free, Gabriel Obertan (Bordeaux) ? Free, Denilson (Arsenal) - $16M FOR: Maxi Lopes (Barcelona) ? Free, Scott Sinclair (Chelsea) ? Free, Daniel Sturridge (Man City) ? Free,Sold DEF: Riccardo Bonetto (Man City) - $1.3M FOR: Goran Pandev (Liverpool) - $30MSo you see I tried to rejuvenate the first squad and substitution players. Highly progressing in Real Life Micah Richards was intended to become safe tower in defence together with Curtis Davies. Armand Traore is left back we just needed. And Denilson is the player of very high potential in the centre of midfield. Selling...

My story with Football Manager 2007: Lazio, the 3rd season
2007-10-11 22:16:00
Expectations for the new season - win Seria A and reach the final of Champions League again. For achievement of these goals the following transfers were made:Bought GK: Jose Molina (Levante) ? Free DEF: Igor Tudor (Juventus) ? Free, Glen Johnson (Chelsea) ? Free MID: Alberto Aquilani (Real Madrid) - $9.25M, Andrea Gasbarroni (Juventus) ? Free, Jesus Navas (Sevilla) - Free FOR: Sergio Aguero (Atletico Madrid) - $25MSold DEF: Guglielmo Stendardo (Bordeaux) - $475K MID: Roberto Baronio (Vicenza) - $1M FOR: Roberto Soldado (Torino) - $3.4M, Stephen Makinwa (Middlesbrough) - $5MAll sold guys were not performing good. Though half of them found themselves in their new clubs. Saying about newcomers, I would admit that Aguero is a real wonderkid who had been considered to be replace for Tomasso Rocchi (and be better than he had been in the first two seasons). Alberto Aquilani is central midfielder for the first team squad surely. Glen Johnson was signed also for closin...
My story with Football Manager 2007: Lazio, the 2nd season
2007-10-05 21:23:00
After success of the first season my Lazio was targeted at fighting for Seria A title. And, of course, I was cherishing some hopes about success in the Champions League season. The success meant for me ? getting through to the quarter final of the tournament.Transfers before the seasonBoughtMID: Yildiray Basturk (Hertha) - Free FOR: Roberto Soldado (Real Madrid) ? Free, Stephen Makinwa (Palermo) ? $3.8MSold FOR: Simone Inzaghi (Messina) - $475KNot really big changes. We wanted to secure a good style of playing achieved during the first season. For that Soldado and Makinwa were attracted as substitutes for the main forwards - Rocchi and Pandev. Yuildiray Basturk was signed with a high hope of doing playmaker from him.So the season had started with two confident wins over Grasshoppers in the Champions League qualification. And we got to the group with Manchester United, Lyon and Shakhtar. Not easy one, but not mortal :) The next two away games were very hard and lost: 2:4 with M...
My story with Football Manager 2007: Lazio, the 1st season
2007-09-28 22:50:00
I started managing Lazio in FM07 this winter and have been this game playing till the moment. Long time for one game, yup? :) But I would say I really relish the game...So lets get started! Lazio is a football club having prospects to become a grand-champion. I took it as manager having just right that target. There was enough two month for setting up playing style of team and tactics I like. The choice fell for standard wing-attacking 4-4-2 on counter attacks. Transfers before the first seasonBought: Cesare Natali (Udinese) ? $7.5M, Nicola Legrottaglie (Juventus) - $1.8M, Antonio Lopes (Sevilla) - $2.2MSold: Matteo Sereni (Parma) - $3.3MAlmost $12M for all. Lazio is not poor club, but not rich one. Therefore I decided to spend the most of the transfer funds on a good and solid center defender (Natali) who can take care of air balls and be concentrated tackler guarding access to gates. The main intrigue with Lazio was its starting fine of minus 11 points. But we played really cool ...
My story behind the story - By Iqbal Athas

My story behind the story * Let the court of the people decideBy Iqbal Athas - from The Sunday TimesThat evening, August 15 2007, I had returned home after a meeting with Norway's then Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Hans Brattskar. It was two fold - Firstly, I wished him farewell on his departure at the end of his tour of duty. Secondly, I extended my thanks to the Governments of Indonesia and Norway for inviting me to the second Global Inter-Media Dialogue in Oslo in June this year. I had been meeting him in the months before mostly over this event; giving some views, which I felt, would be useful. The first Dialogue was in the tourist resort of Bali in Indonesia. Some 100 journalists from 80 countries took part in the event in Oslo. They included journalists from the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, France, Germany, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Norway, Jordan, the Philippines, Pakistan, Sweden, Singapore and Uganda. There were also officials from the United Nations. The theme of ...
