McCain at the NAACP Convention
2008-07-17 12:25:00 He gave a solid, but not inspiring, speech which was pretty well received considering the audience's strong pro-Obama leanings. What's more important to me though is the fact that he actually bothered to speak there considering how few votes he'll garner for his troubles. However I think he seemed more like the McCain of 2000 than anything we've seen of late. It was a good first step by McCain to make the GOP seem like a more inclusive party with a few good ideas. You can watch the full speech here here here and here

McCain pledging to NAACP more education options
2008-07-16 12:51:00 CINCINNATI (AP) - John McCain is telling the NAACP he will expand education opportunities for children in failing schools. McCain, the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, on Wednesday is addressing the annual convention of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, the nation’s oldest civil rights organization. In excerpts released in advance of the speech, McCain says that the worst educational problems in the country are often found in schools in black communities and that as president he will provide greater school choices and scholarships for such students. Full Story Here: McCain pledging to NAACP more education options The very 1st thing I have to say is this, John McCain is a damned liar, as President he won’t do one thing more to help anyone than any other pandering politico before him. If there was anything more to be done to help the *plight* of the *BLACK* community, the Dems would have already put those tax draining programs in p...

Senator Barack Obama's NAACP Speech : Video and Text
2008-07-15 03:15:00 CRW_6803, originally uploaded by Joe Lamb. This is the video and text of Senator Barack Obama's speech on Monday before the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) in Cincinnati. Video: It is always humbling to speak before the NAACP. It is a powerful reminder of the debt we all owe to those who marched for us and fought for us and stood up on our behalf; of the sacrifices that were made for us by those we never knew; and of the giants whose shoulders I stand on here today. They are the men and women we read about in history books and hear about in church; whose lives we honor with schools, and boulevards, and federal holidays that bear their names. But what I want to remind you tonight ? on Youth Night ? is that these giants, these icons of America?s past, were not much older than many of you when they took up freedom?s cause and made their mark on history.Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. was but a 26-year -old pastor when he led a bus boycott in Montgomery th...

NAACP Awards' Fashion
2008-05-22 14:18:00 The other night many celebs attended the NAACP Theater Awards. Eva Pigford, Jurnee Smollett, Malcolm Jamal Warner, and Henry Simmons all posed for a group picture. Eva and Jurnee look so chic. Ladies take a note from Eva on how to look good wearing stripes. Henry looks ok, but Malcom is in need of some serious fashion help. The skinny tie, and jeans look is not working for him. He looks like half of his body wanted to dress up, and the bottom half did not.

Reverend Jeremiah Wright speaks at NAACP: Asymmetric opinion
2008-04-28 05:49:00 I heard most of the sermon. My thoughts: Content: Pretty banal stuff. Wright mentioned that he mostly talks about Christ before offering his thoughts on culturo-historical issues of the day. His main message was that people see others as "deficient" and that those people are "deficiant(?)." He gave racial, cultural, and musical examples. I don't know. I think things can be different, but of a similar quality. On the other hand, can I think that Milli Vanilli is deficient vis a vis Handel, to use one of the reverend's examples? Europeans did see Africans as "deficient," I suppose, but, in some measures of civilization, they were (are)- thus, the term "underdeveloped." Reverend Wright sees America as deficient in some ways, but wait! Maybe Wright's absolute relativism is consistent after all, since he compares Al Qaeda to the United States. Reverend Wright has a lovely singing voice. Only slightly deficient compared to Otis Redding and James Brown, although superior to Brow...

2008-04-11 19:46:00 We sincerely hope that this post can be the last Open Letter that criticizes the involvement of the NAACP and Al Sharpton in the Dunbar Village case.Although we are not satisfied with the official conduct of the NAACP in the past few weeks, we acknowledge that the finite goals that we originally set for this campaign have been completed. We will continue to offer our support to the victims of this crime, and would like to thank the prosecutor in this case for exercising a high degree of discretion.SynopsisNew readers: this post is the conclusion of a protest in which thousands of African Americans from various walks of life condemned the recent actions of both the NAACP and the National Action Network in a criminal case known as the Dunbar Village Atrocity. 2008-04-05 00:43:00 Synopsis:On April 3, 2008, Adora Obi Nweze, President of the Florida State Conference of the NAACP and Richard McIntire, NAACP national spoksperson apologized privately for the press conference called by the West Palm Beach Branch of the NAACP and Al Sharpton during a podcast, The Black Women's Roundtable, but publicly claimed they were misrepresented and their views distorted.NAACP employed a ?Muddying the Waters? strategy bringing up unrelated issues when the only criticism levied against the NAACP was its decision to hold a press conference to find injustice without showing that that there has been any injustice.NAACP national spokesman, Richard McIntire, repeatedly stated that the suspects have a right to bail. The Florida State Conference President said that the West Palm Beach chapter was wrong and has been counseled.NAACP said it does not have a stance on Dunbar Village-yet they HAVE spoken on the case, they are just on the wrong side of the fight.A ResponseThursday evening t...

Al Sharpton, NAACP choose violent rapists over victimized woman, child
2008-03-12 00:30:00 A woman and her son are assaulted in a government-subsidized hell in West Palm Beach, Fla., where poor folks are left to rot. Ten teenage boys rape the woman and beat her 12-year-old boy for three hours. They force their victims to lie naked in a tub together, make the woman perform oral sex on her child. Afterwards, they burn the mother's skin and blind the son with cleaning solution. In an act of monstrous arrogance, one perpetrator takes a cell phone picture of his handiwork; another leaves behind a used condom. No one in community hears anything or sees anything. The victims walk to the hospital, in the dark, on their own.If you called yourself a community leader, if you ran a national civil rights organization, if you claimed to devote yourself to the downtrodden, if you were, say, Al Sharpton and the West Palm Beach chapter of the NAACP, who in this sordid story would you offer succor to? You have two guesses and the first one is wrong.Several of my blogsisters have been cover...

NAACP President comes to the support of Ron Paul (video)
2008-02-17 14:58:00 This is a response by Nelson Linder of the Austin Texas NAACP to claims of Ron Paul being a white supremacist. I do not think that Ron Paul is a white supremacist myself. The NAACP Image Awards Red Carpet
2008-02-15 19:34:00 A glowing America Ferrera hit the red carpet at he NAACP Image Awards, where she went home with the prize of Outstanding Actress in a Comedy. On stage to accept her award, America expressed her gratitude for the recognition, saying, "It feels really good to be in this room with such wonderful, beautiful, colorful faces." That's how I feel about perusing the red carpet here. The awards were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, with D.L. Hughley playing host. I LOVE that CCH Pounder showed up to the event with a giant, red, heart-shaped purse. Probably part of the reason that I love it so much is that she's got that big grin on her face in stark contrast to the serious characters she always seems to play on-screen. Also, her name is so awesome. Kate Walsh was there, with "Grey's Anatomy" up for some awards and I LOVE her dark hair. Her make-up and dress are flawless as well. Too bad I'm too lazy to watch her new show. Whoah. Eva Pigford looks like she ran ove...
