Office Narcolepsy

It is safe to say that only a fraction of the staff have returned to work this week - which (as I mentioned in Trunk Cast 118) is probably to be expected. The majority of the people in my building are foreign and therefore have gone home for Christmas - this means these people have taken longer breaks in order to go home. This has meant that the three days I have been in this week have gone very slowly as there hasn't really been that much going on. I think everyone who came in made reference to how the time was dragging. There is however a flip side to this as we have all managed to get all those niggly little jobs out of the way and I am sure the time was spent wisely as next week things will get back to there normal rate of chaos as I am sure everyone will return to work.If you listened to show 118 I mentioned the Christmas decorations, well they came down last night and now the house looks rather bare and less festive without them. At least it's done, Io think I hate taking...

Narcolepsy and updates
2007-11-02 15:07:00
I bet you're wondering why I'm blogging when I'm supposed to be in science class. Yep. I overslept. I'm still at home, in my pajamas, blahgging away my missed-class blahs.See, I've been on beta blockers for tachycardia for a while. But they weren't working so the dosage was doubled. They have a tendency for making some people pass out; I'm lucky, they just make me sleepy. I kept forgetting to take them, and finally just stopped since they don't help anyway (even my doctor knows this, he's referring me to an electrophysiologist (cardiologist that specializes in rhythm and heart rate patterns, I think?) to try to figure out what the problem is). Well, for some crazy reason, I decided to take one last night. And here I am now. Overslept. Those things are narcolepsy in a bottle. And, yes, I did finally finish my speech. And got a 95 on it, if I might add. An 'A' isn't bad to have written it last minute. I gots skills. Yo.Next update: Halloween.

NARCOLEPSY
2007-08-02 01:46:00
Chronic neurological disorder involving the body's central nervous system. About one in 200,000 people suffers from narcolepsy. For people with narcolepsy the messages sometimes arrive  in the wrong place at the wrong time. This is why someone who has narcolepsy, not managed by medications, may fall asleep while eating dinner or engaged in social activities. Recent discoveries indicate that people with narcolepsy lack a chemical in the brain called hypocretin, which normally stimulates arousal and helps regulate sleep. They also discovered that there is a reduction in the number of Hcrt cells or neurons that secrete hypocretin. This may be due to a degenerative process or an immune response. In addition to a medical history and physician examination, a diagnosis is made from polysomnogram tests in an overnight sleep laboratory to measure brain waves and body movements as well as nerve and muscle function. A diagnosis also includes the results of the Multiple ...
