Junior Assuncao Versus Nate Diaz Ultimate Fight Night Match
2007-09-20 03:47:00 The fight was much of a grappling chess match. Scrappy Nate Diaz was the aggressor of the exchanges, while Junior Assuncao spent much of his time trying to counter Nate’s attempts. After battling back and forth on the ground, both men get to their feet and Nate throws a flurry of punches rocking and stunning Junior. Nate then goes to the ground with Junior and finishes him with a Guillotine Choke in the first.
Is The Ultimate Fighter Good For The Sport?
2007-09-17 20:42:00 Stroll into just about any Sherdog forum, wait for a white belt to say something stupid, and then watch as the rest of the posters blast him with chants of "TUF NOOB." The logic behind this pedantic insult is that the white belt (a relatively new writer) has only been watching since the UFC went mainstream (The Ultimate Finale 1). Is it such a bad thing to have recently jumped on the bandwagon? After all, no sport can maintain its popularity without some semblance of turnover among its fans. In the eyes of veteran Sherdoggers, The Ultimate Fighter (TUF) reality series has done nothing for the sport except cheapen it and make it accessible to legions of idiots.I disagree, and I actually think that TUF has done more for the sport than almost anything else. I'd rank it right up there with the PRIDE buyout, showing live events on SpikeTV, and the UFC 40 fight between Tito Ortiz and Ken Shamrock. The cable television finale of the first season did a 1.9 share (HUGE) and brought us what ...

Irish Whip Exclusive: Blood Feuds Make For Bitter Showdowns
2007-08-08 06:04:00 While UFC 51: Bitter Rivals was cast as a classic match up of enemies, it turned out to be a lackluster night of fights between Ken Shamrock, Tito Ortiz, Andrei Arlovski, and Tim Sylvia. Had VP of Talent and Matchmaker Joe Silva been afforded the luxury of "fighting families" in the UFC at that time, surely he would have booked them against one another in a true display of bitter rivals. Now, with Nate and Nick Diaz together in MMA (although Nick is currently in EliteXC, not UFC) along with Manny Gamburyan and Karo Parisyan (they're cousins), both in the UFC, he's got just that. And if it wasn't enough that there are two families with fighters whose weights match up perfectly, they hate each other. (Originally published at martialbase.com)The bad blood started back at UFC 49 when Karo Parisyan beat Nick Diaz by split decision (pictured, credit: fightnews.com). Most said that this was one of the top ten UFC bouts of all time, and even more suggested that the decision could have go...

2007-07-25 04:19:00 Nick Diaz will finally fight after a six month suspension due to a positive marijuana test which ruled his impressive gogoplata submission win over Takanori Gomi at PRIDE 33 a No Contest. Nick Diaz is ready to make a triumphant return on September 15th, this time at Elite XC's show in Hawaii.EliteXC's event will take place in the beautiful Honolulu, Hawaii and its main event will feature EliteXC middleweight champion Murilo "Ninja" Rua versus ICON middleweight champion "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler.Nick Diaz recently challenged StrikeForce middleweight champion Frank Shamrock, who most recently defeated Phil Baroni in stunning fashion, to a middleweight show down. TUF 5 Finale Betting Odds and Picks
2007-06-22 09:28:00 Desert Dog here, back for another installment of my betting picks. The TUF 5 Finale is not providing much in the way of betting values. There are several lopsided bouts including the return of the little boiled lobster Allen Berube. Why is this sack of taters fighting?Well with odds like these bettors are forced to look to the dogs to find any sort of value. Currently I?m looking at three matchups and probably only two bets unless there is some favorable movement in the odds. The ?Smart Bets? for the TUF 5 Finale:Main Card Picks:BJ Penn -340 No Action unless odds hit -275Manny G. -115 (Bet $100 to win $86.96)Roger Huerta -850 No ActionPrelim Picks:JoeLauzon -650 No Action Cole Miller -600 No ActionGray Maynard -550 No ActionLeonard Garcia -800 No ActionBrian Geraghty +400 (Bet $100 to win $400)Thales Leites -600 No ActionAs always, if you are going to bet, only play with what you are willing to lose. I?ve switched the odds posted here to Bodog.com because they have been coming out...
Nate Diaz comments on Gabe Ruediger
2007-05-11 16:31:00 "There's nothing I can say to make him look worse than he already does. He brought it on himself. That's just how he really is. Gabe called Weems out cause he's a coward. He would have made weight for that fight but with Corey he didn't want to make the weight. I wasn't worried about Gabe, he's scared of me. I would beat "Chubby Tits'" ass."- Nate Diaz(Source) |
