National Day of Prayer
2008-05-01 14:00:00
In 1952 a Joint Resolution of Congress signed into law by President Harry S. Truman established the National Day of Prayer as a yearly event and in 1988 Ronald Reagan set it as the first Thursday of May.  The day is designated for people of any and all faiths to come together and pray in their ...
National Day of Prayer
2008-04-30 16:11:00
Tomorrow, May 1st, is being promoted by Christians as the National Day of Prayer. So they all get together and pray for... what? It's hard to believe that nobody has ever prayed to end the war or feed all of the starving children or end poverty or rid the world of all suffering, etc. And if they have (and they surely have) and we still have all of these things (and we certainly do), then how the hell can they still believe prayer works? It's the same old thing. The Bible-God just can't lose! If Christians pray for something and they get it, they thank him for answering their prayers. And if the thing they prayed for doesn't happen, they excuse him with something like, "It wasn't God's will" or "God has his reasons." (I wonder what his reasons could be for allowing innocent children to suffer through sexual and physical abuse, starving, and disease.)And if their god is going to do whatever the hell he wants to do anyway, then why the hell pray in the first place?Technorati Tags:...

Arafat and National Day
2007-12-18 17:11:00
Today is both Arafat day and Qatar's National day.The name Arafat is taken from the mountain of Arafat in Saudi Arabia. It's an important day for Muslims, as this is the day when Mohammed gave his farewell sermon the last year of his life. Many Muslims in Qatar will be fasting, although unlike Ramadan the fasting is recommended rather than obligatory.Muslim on the Hajj in Saudi Arabia, meanwhile, will spend the whole day on the plan of Arafat, praying for God's forgiveness.Meanwhile, Qatar is celebrating, for the first time, its national day, which celebrates the accession of Sheikh Abdullah Jassim Al Thani in 1878.Sheikh Jassim's father was still alive when he handed over power to his son, although he wasn't very happy when his son invited the Ottoman's into the country. However, Sheikh Jassim made up for it later by defeating the Ottoman's in battle. (See the Rise of the Qatar Ruling Family for more details.)Tomorrow is another even more important day, for it is the start of...

National Day of Mourning
2007-11-21 08:18:00
I know that last year when I wrote on this topic, some found it depressing. Here are two reasons I will be highlighting some words of Native People’s this week. Thanksgiving is more or less the only time of year that any attention on a national level is given to the history of this country ...
How Thanksgiving Became the National Day of Mourning for the Wampanoag Nati
2007-11-08 11:20:00
When I was young, it was ok for people to celebrate the myth of Thanksgiving as it had been told to us for hundreds of years. The Pilgrims landed on Plymouth rock and were met by some very friendly “Indians”. These Indians quickly became friends with the Pilgrims. In a way of celebrating both the Pilgrim/Indian friendship and the wonderful harvest that the Pilgrims and the Indians worked together to cultivate…Thanksgiving was born. Now as time goes on and the country becomes more and more politically correct we can see that the story behind Thanksgiving was based mostly on mythology and it has gone through great changes. This is, in part, due to the Wampanog tribe of Native Americans but more specifically a man named Frank B. James, the one time leader of the Wampanog tribe.
Iranians Celebrate National Day Against Global Arrogance
2007-11-05 13:00:00
U.S. in Less Festive Mood Celebrating the first notch on the belt of the Great Satan’s warriors. Wonder if they had any barbecue? Iranians took to the streets last week to commemorate National Day Against Global Arrogance (NDAGA). One of the events it celebrated was the Iranian shin-kicking of the “Great Satan” in 1979. More on this colorful Iranian tradition from Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting: The rallies marking this year’s National Day Against Global Arrogance, an Iranian tradition since the victory of the Islamic Revolution, started Sunday across the country. Students from schools and universities converged at the site of the former US embassy in Tehran, better known in the Iranian history as the “Den of Spies.” November 4 holds great significance in Iranian history because of three decisive events: the conquest of the former US embassy in Tehran by Muslim Students (1979), the sending to exile of the late Founder of the Islamic Republ...

Back from the National Day Holiday!
2007-10-08 03:58:00
We hope you didn’t have any problems, but if you found us slightly less responsive over the past seven days, it’s because we’ve all been enjoying the October 1-7 Chinese National Day holiday (AKA “Golden Week”). Well, all that “vacation” nonsense has finally come to an end, and a Monday of torrential downpour is ushering in another sweet workweek here in Shanghai. That means we’ll be more on the ball again! See you in the comments… -John

Aljunied GRC Post National Day Rally Dialogue 2007
2007-09-24 18:56:00
23 September 2007Grassroots leaders from Aljunied GRC gathered at Eunos CC Auditorium to attend the Post National Day Rally Dialogue. The panel included Mrs Lim Hwee Hua (Minister of State, Ministry of Finance & Ministry of Transport), Mayor Zainul Abidin Rasheed (Senior Minister of State, Ministry of Foreign Affairs & Mayor, North East District), Mr Yeo Guat Kwang, Mdm Cynthia Phua and a representative from Ministry of Manpower. The dialogue session focused on the CPF issue. I see it in a positive view in the changes that the government is implemented. This makes the CPF better able to sustain.I got to understand the CPF scheme a little bit better after this dialogue. Think it's time I should also start planning to prevent it from becoming "Cannot Provide Forever".

Anyway, i did do something to show my love to the country....... i went to Putrajaya to take fireworks photos at the hill beside the Prime Minister office building, together with CheeSung, a professional photographer who is currently working in a studio..There's a breathtaking view from the hill.. you can almost see the whole Putrajaya from the hill, to be honest i have no idea what's the name of the hill, but i am pretty sure that Hotel Shangri-la Putrajaya is situated on the hill as well..The Prime Minister's office.. very huge building.. do they really utilized every space inside?!Okay, here is the first firework when its officially 31st August 2007.. NATIONAL DAY RALLY SPEECH 2007
2007-08-20 18:49:00
This is actual speech of our Prime Minister Lee in his national day speech rally 2007. ENGLISH TEXT OF NATIONAL DAY RALLY SPEECH 2007 IN MALAY SUNDAY, 19 AUGUST 2007 AT THE UNIVERSITY CULTURAL CENTRE, NUS Singapore’s prospects have never been better. Our economy is vibrant and competitive. Our society is strong and cohesive. Malay/Muslims are doing well in this environment, and are in a strong position to tackle the challenges of globalisation. The formation of Mendaki 25 years ago was a major turning point. Mendaki was the first self-help group in Singapore. Through Mendaki and other Malay/Muslim organisations, successful Malays pitched in to help the weaker members, and focussed the community’s efforts on education, especially English, Mathematics and Science. In the last few years, through the Community Leaders’ Forum, Malay/Muslim organisations have rallied around to support Mendaki and work together to uplift the community. With the deep spirit of self-help, and th...

42nd National Day: City of Possibilities
2007-08-12 19:00:00
On National Day's eve, Yong Sheng held his birthday chalet at Aranda Country Club. I believe it's my first visit to the club. The executive suite was spacious and comfortable. Spent the night and the early wee hours of National day until 5am.At 6.45am, I was already dressed in my "Eurasian" outfit, doing rehearsals for the National Day Observance Ceremony at Petal Garden. 4 of us from Eunos YEC would be reciting the pledge to the residents of Eunos. After the pledge, representatives from the 10 major religions in Singapore came forward to pray for harmony and prosperity for our nation. After the ceremony, I rushed home to catch some sleep... Zzzz...At 1pm, my family and I headed to Intercontinental Hotel near Bugis Junction. We checked in to the hotel shortly after arriving at the hotel. The room was awesome. As we would be staying there in September again, I didn't utilise the camera. So I slept all the way till the commencement of the NDP on tv.Managed to feel some vibration thro...

National Parade on Marina Bay
2007-08-10 16:24:00
This year National Parade was the first time on the gigantic floating platform on Marina Bay. We were longing for watching it. At first, when we tried to get a hotel room at Ritz Carlton, but when were told the only the only available ones were the top level suites cost 2000 dollars, we were just about to forget about it. A few weeks before the National day, one of our relatives told us good news that he managed to books a few rooms, we were both grateful and overjoyed. The National Day finally came. Children could not wait to go to hotel. By the time we checked into the room, wow, we found the National Parade Platform was just right under our window. Not only had we the clear vision of parade itself, we also had a splendid bird eyed view of whole Marina Bay. In afternoon, there were several rehearsals, these soldiers really worked very hard. They had been having rehearsals many times over several weekends. We brought MacDonald?s back to our hotel. The whole parade was gorgeous and...
National Day
2007-08-09 17:30:00
Its 30 more minutes to midnight. I better do my national day post quick. You know, I felt extremely exhausted and out of breath after watching those fireworks at Marina Bay earlier. And right now, I’m not in any mood to even type. Let’s just forget about it, no. Then again, I’ve already made my promise to NAFASG.Before I begin to bitch, allow me to wish Singapore a Happy 42nd Birthday. It was no secret that I went to Marina Bay earlier to watch the fireworks. I was so excited at first; not until I reached that goddamn place. I can’t believe that the crowd was gonna be that bad. My friends and I have decided to head to one of the location in front of us to get a better view. I was abit mad when I couldn’t even make a move – not even 3 steps in 5 seconds. The jam was helluva ridiculous! It is worst than that of a traffic jam.At some point, out of the blue, there were uncountable of punanis around that area pushing and tossing (haha) to get their way out quickly (was wonderi...

2007-05-04 03:50:00
Shalom… I hope we all took advantage of the “National Day Of Prayer” today! If not, the day is still not over, and you still have a chance to get your prayers in! Every day should be a “National Day Of Prayer” for the “Nation Of God”. Let us all try to keep that in mind as each day goes by. God hears our prayers, and enjoys the time that we can spend with Him in prayer. c2253251

National Day Of Prayer
2007-05-03 08:00:00
Today is the U.S. Government-endorsed National Day Of Prayer. Its intention is was to set aside a day for all Americans, regardless of their beliefs, to pray in their own way — hopefully for something positive like a Nintendo Wii because most major higher-beings are all for some fat, gaming action. Hey, it’s America. I have the right to pray the way I want. This special day started as an act of the Continental Congress is 1775, which President Thomas Jefferson argued was wrong. He believed that while religious organizations should have the right to decree a day of prayer, our government should not. President Truman made the day law in 1952 and in 1988 (the year that Will To Power had a #1 hit with “Baby, I Love Your Way/Freebird Medley”) President Ronald Reagan signed into law that the National Day Of Prayer would be on the first Thursday in May. In 1972 the National Day Of Prayer Committee was form and they in turn created the National Day Of Prayer Task For...

Here is a video that Michael prepared for his school to be shown today on the National Day of Prayer. Michael chose two songs for this video: Enya (The First of Autumn) and U2 (The Hands that Built America). The video is divided in four parts: 1) Prayer in thanksgiving for America's history, 2) joy in America's Christian heritage, 3) Prayer for forgiveness of America's sins against humanity, and 4) an invitation to keep hoping in the Lord.

News & Current Events :: EVENT: National Day Of Prayer 5-3-07
2007-05-02 00:33:00
Author: Patrick Subject: EVENT: National Day Of Prayer 5-3-07 Posted: Tue May 01, 2007 6:33 pm (GMT -4) This is an event going on throughout the entire country and even other places in the world. Instead of making many threads in each of the events section, I thought I'd add it here to News & Current Events. May 3, 2007 is National Day Of Prayer. Of course we are supposed to pray without ceasing, but this is a national holiday enforcing prayer throughout the nation. With all of the schools, courts, and other institutions/organizations banning prayer from their daily activities, we need a holiday like this to remind them the importance of prayer and that there is nothing wrong with praying. It only works if you make the commitment to pray though, so spend some time praying, and pray out loud and around lots of people. This needs to be taken to the streets and be made public, not hidden in secret behind closed doors. Remember, in this great country, we have freedom OF...
International day of the Woman 2007 – March 8
2007-03-06 18:12:00
Gentlemen, do not forget that the 8th of March is the International day of the Woman, in Italy the Festa della Donna. The traditional gift is a branch of Mimosa. While this festivity is not celebrated in the US, it is extremely important across the world. If you are curious about this date and how it relates to our culture, I wrote about it last year. This is part of who we are and our women deserve both our admiration and respect. To my wife, daughters and all the women in my life, Auguri!

Dec. 2 - International Day for the Abolition of Slavery
2006-12-03 09:03:03
This day marking the anniversary of the adoption in 1949 of the UN Convention for the Suppression of the Traffic in Persons and the Exploitation of Others. Abolition of the slavery in all its forms remains major priority for the Humanity. Slavery was, in a very real sense, the first international human rights issue to come to the fore. It led to the adoption of the first human rights laws and to the creation of the first human rights non-governmental organization. And yet despite the efforts of the international community to combat this abhorrent practice, it is still widely prevalent in all its insidious forms, old and new. Human Trafficking, the exploitation of the prostitution, child abuse, child work and many others kinds of slavery and slavery-like practices, remains in the modern world. The 2006 Anti-Slavery Award winner, Sudanese activist James Aguer, declared "slavery is an inhuman and degrading practice which must not be allowed to persist in the 21 st century. We must put a...
