MLB Predictions: National League
2008-03-31 22:21:00
East 1. NY Mets2. Philadelphia Phillies3. Atlanta Braves4. Florida Marlins5. Washington NationalsThe Mets were the best team in the National League for 5 ½ months last season before the collapse. This off-season they brought in the best pitcher of this generation without losing any contributing pieces from last season?s team. If Pedro Martinez is healthy you can expect to see the Mets' rotation be a strength whereas it was a major weakness heading into last season. Their lineup is headed by three potential MVP candidates in David Wright, Jose Reyes, and Carlos Beltran and should score enough runs to finish in the Top 10 in baseball again. Ultimately I think they?re the class of the NL and a solid tier above the contending Phillies and Braves. I think the Mets win the division handily on their way to a low 90?s win season and home-field advantage throughout the NL Playoffs.Central1. Chicago Cubs2. Milwaukee Brewers3. Cincinatti Reds4. 2008 National League Preview Since I live on the West Coast, I'll go ahead and start with the Western Divisions first. Maybe it's true, there are four teams in the NL West who could win the division or finish fourth. That may be due to the overall lack of quality in the National League as opposed

They have an excellent blend of productive veterans, and youngsters on the rise. Even if Jeff Kent and Nomar Garciapara cannot stay healthy all year, the Dodgers have a ton of talent who could come up and take those positions from them. Andre Either and Matt Kemp have already put Juan Pierre and his 11 million dollar-a-year salary on the bench. Their pitching has the same depth as Chad Billingsly proved last year that he's ready and capable. The Dodgers also have young lefty Clayton Kershaw waiting in the wings. It's still tough to tell what kind of power numbers he will put up in America, but he should be around .300 providing speed and solid defense. If Derrick Lee rebounds this year and can stay healthy, the Cubs should score plenty of runs. I like Theriot and Soriano at the top of the lineup. While their offense may not have quite the weapons that a few of the other division contenders do, they have the best pitching. Carlos Zambrano and Rich Hill haven't even hit their prime yet and both are among the better starters in the NL already. Lilly is very steady in the 2 spot. Tout Wars Draft Results - National League
2008-03-23 15:31:00
By raygu: I see the results of the Tout Wars NL-only auction draft are posted now: Tout Wars One thing I usually do is confirm my thoughts on what a player's value is vs. the dollar value I plan on retaining him at. One guy that stuck out was the much discussed Albert Pujols. He went for $30 in this 13 team draft. There were 13 guys that went for more, while 2 others went for $30 also-Jake Peavy and Eric Brynes. There were 4 players-Garrett Atkins, Lance Berkman, Carlos Beltran and Brandon Phillips-who went for $1 less at $29. The 13 players who went for more than $30 are as follows: Reyes-$44 Wright-$42 Ramirez-$40 Santana-$40 Holliday-$38 Utley-$37 Rollins-$36 Howard-$36 Braun-$36 Fielder-$35 Teixeira-$33 Soriano-$31 C. Lee-$31 In one of my NL-only keeper leagues, Pujols was retained at $38, and in another keeper league, the owner is retaining him at $46. I think the "experts" have him valued correctly due to the injury concerns with his elbow. But, with Pujols hot spring, do the...

Pedro Martinez looks healthy and ready to go and he and Santana should form a nice 1-2 punch. Jose Reyes took a small step back last season after a great '06 campaign. Spring Training Tales: National League
2008-03-04 14:39:00
And on to the other side of the league...NL East: The Braves centerfield job is supposedly open to competition, but I expect Kotsay gets it as the veteran. Many of the young Marlins' pitchers have shown flashes of brilliance, so Andrew Miller, Josh Johnson, and Anibal Sanchez are worth keeping an eye on as a late round pick. Washington has a plethora of talent in their outfield, though I fully expect Mo Pena, Milledge, and Kearns to hold their own (So Elijah Dukes will have to wait a bit). This, in turn, could cause a conflict at first between Dmitri Young and Nick Johnson, though neither will provide a whole lot of value.NL Central: Chicago has four 5th starts to fill in the 4th and 5th spots. It looks like Marquis might be involved in the Roberts deal, but if not its likely he gets a spot. Also, Lieber was all but guaranteed a spot when he signed with the Cubs. The only guy worth considering come draft day is Marshall, but only if he gets a spot. The Cubs closer role is complicat...
