National Novel Writing Month (NaNo) & The Sven Challenge
2007-11-05 07:50:00 How goes it?...I did about seven thousand words last week. My method? I block a scene the night before in longhand, then I type it out on the computer with no internal editor or anything. It's just plain, stinky, non-polished first draft excrement. I don't go back and fix anything, which is COMPLETELY against my nature, but I'm trying this new thing. I call it: "Tanya's last ditch attempt at becoming something other than an anal-retentive writer." Look, I don't know how long I'll last, but I'm giving it a shot. Anyway, after I've typed out the scene from my blocking notes, I toss my spiral notebook in my purse, and go pick up my son at school. There I wait for an hour in the car-riders line, using the time to block out another scene. And the process repeats itself the next day. So in essence, I'm doing two scenes per day. Five to seven pages of typed words and about ten pages of longhand. If you are a participant in any of these crazy writing marathons, how many w...
And so it begins
2007-11-04 22:15:00 Well I started. Finally. What, you ask, am I talking about? I am of course referring to National Novel Writing Month or NaNoWriMo and after spending the first three days sat on my arse doing very little save wiping my leaking nose along with a fair bit of feeling sorry for myself I have finally begun ...
Day Three of NaNo 2007
2007-11-03 23:53:00 It's day three and I'm pleased with my progress. Didn't write much yesterday so I buckled down today and wrote 3652 words. My total for NaNo is now 5450 words. More importantly, I am working steadily on my goal of writing at least 25 scenes. I've written the bare bones of six scenes so far and will expand them later after NaNo is over. How is everyone else doing? read more

National Novel Writing Month
2007-11-02 04:48:00 National Novel Writing Month has started (November 1) and I have taken the plunge and signed up, my family responsibilities and crushing day job commitments notwithstanding. Made 2000 words today, a decent enough start, but we'll have to see if I can keep that up.
National Novel Writing Month
2007-10-28 18:10:00 Perhaps you were unaware, but November is National Novel Writing Month. This is the month where you get to write an entire novel, from start to finish. That's right, November 1 you start writing and by November 30 you must finish by writing at least 50,000 words. They couldn't have made October the National Novel Writing Month? October has 31 days. That one extra day could have proven crucial. Well, at least it isn't February. Though if it were, it would have been interesting to see if sign ups for the event surged in a leap year. For those of you who are interested, you can sign up on the organization's website. I'm half considering doing this. I've invited my co-blogger Jennifer to give it a shot, too. She is a force of nature when it comes to output, so she could probably wrap it all up in a couple...
Gearing up for NaNo 2007
2007-10-27 16:42:00 I sat down yesterday and made a list of scenes to write during NaNo. My goal is to complete 25 good scenes. If I make the 50,000 word count, fine. If not, my novel will still be so much farther than it is now. In December/January I'll go back and connect the scenes and edit. Then submit to a publisher in the spring. Can't wait to get started on November 1st!! read more
