With this post I hope to start a weekly series on America’s national parks and monuments. In southern Utah, only a few hours drive from Las Vegas is Zion National Park. Early mormon pioneers gave this spectacular valley heavenly names like Zion, Angel’s Landing, and The Great White Throne (of God). It is not surprising ...

What do the thermal features at Yellowstone National Park look like? While most geysers spout upward in the air, fumaroles are a bit a smaller. Simply put, these steam vents lack the "punch" to push the water up very far. Want to see for yourself? Let's take a trip to Roaring Mountain, which

Photography of Greg Rothschild People familiar with coyotes of southern climates often mistake the coyote in this photo for a wolf. SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: The craggy heights of the Mountain Zebra National Park's Bankberg embrace rolling plains and deep valleys, and has become an entrancing preserve for the Cape mountain zebra. The proclamation of the park in 1937 saved these animals from extinction, and currently their population stands at 350. The park contains a rich variety of plant species and in spring the veld is covered with flowers. Fynbos and renosterveld bush flourish in the temperate climate where the rains come mainly during early summer and winter.Rate and Review : Mountain Zebra National Park - South Africa - The Cape mountain Zebra Was Saved From Extinction

Nicole, Gawain and I got to head up to Rocky Mountain National Park a few days ago to shoot an engagement session that was totally fun. These two rock! We wandered around Lumpy Ridge for a while and found some of the most beautiful aspen groves, and then we headed up into the Alluvial Fan area of the park for some more engagement photos. I’m so excited to photograph their wedding in August — it’ll be at an amazing overlook in Colorado National Monument, which is one of my most favorite places in Colorado. Awesome!

Thailand's "Jurassic Park" In Phu Wiang National Park
2008-05-26 15:56:00
THAILAND'S northeastern region has seen civilizations come and go over the centuries. In the 1970's, an archeological excavations at Ban Chiang, 50 kms cast of Udon Thani, unearthed the remains of a Bronze Age civilization that flourished over 5,000-7,000 years ago. A thousand years ago, the area was also part of the ancient Khmer empire that gave birth to Angkor Wat. The Khmer ruins at Phimai and Phanom Rung are fine examples of this great civilization that preceded Sukhothai-Thailand's first established capital. But even before human begins roamed the plateaus of "Isan", the region was once home to a more ancient species of animal-the dinosaur. The discovery of new dinosaur bones at the Phu Wiang National Park in Khon Kaen province has brought excitement to the world at large. Thai people are even more excited to learn that the fossils are the "grandfather" of all tyrannosaurs, the oldest example of the fierce, mcat-eating dinosaur ever found. T...

Toyota will give $5m and 23 vehicles to National Park support organizations
2008-04-29 00:44:00
At the end of March, when Toyota announced they would give $20m to the National Audubon Society, there was a bit of an uproar. Turns out, Toyota customers were not happy with the works that Audubon was doing to close down certain nature areas to visitors. The PR trouble isn't stopping Toyota from continuing to give money to groups that are looking after the land. Toyota announced today that it will donate a total of $5m and 23 vehicles to various U.S. National Parks. The donations will be used "to enhance environmental leadership and educational programs at parks around the country," according to Toyota's release (read it in full after the jump). The national parks at the Everglades, the Grand Canyon, Yosemite and the Great Smoky Mountains will all see some of the money and were selected based on their work in teaching about the environment, particularly to students and teachers, and to people in inner-city and Native American communities. 2008-04-24 01:30:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: As we were driving along the Tamiami Trail (90/41) at the Northern edge of the Everglades National Park, signs advertising air boat tours appeared every few minutes. Guarantees were given on the amount of excitement one will have, the wildlife they would see and the fun. We resisted all of these as we had already planned on taking part in the Everglades National Park Boat Tour which departs from Everglades City and visits the Ten Thousand Islands area. Clear signs along the roads meant that we found our destination without problems. It was a weekday around noon and Everglades City was quite deserted. A bit spooky. After a quick bite at the solid JT's Island Grill & Gallery we parked at the Gulf Coast Visitor Center and proceeded to inquire about departure times.Rate and Review : Everglades National Park Boat Tour from the Gulf Coast Visitor Center in Everglades City, Florida
Visiting the Royal Palm Visitor Center at Everglades National Park in Flori
2008-04-22 19:18:00
SeeTheGlobe.com Travel Article :: On our way from Key West to Sarasota in the state of Florida, we dedicated a day to visiting the Everglades National Park. We knew that a day would be most insufficient to explore this natural wonderland but still tried to make the best of it. The main stop would be at the Royal Palm Visitor Center. All of the guidebooks and brochures mentioned this as a highlight and we followed these instructions. It was not difficult to find the road that leads to the entrance of the park near Florida City. As we approached the area we could see that human development slowly gave way to a more serene natural landscape. Uninterrupted hues of green were all around us. After we paid our ten dollar entrance fee at the gate, we proceeded down the 9336 to the Royal Palm Road.Rate and Review : Visiting the Royal Palm Visitor Center at Everglades National Park in Florida

Estes Park Elopment in Rocky Mountain National Park
2008-04-20 08:42:00
Had a great time this past weekend with Jen and John, who came all the way out from the Michigan to elope Colorado style. That means wedding gown + suit + hiking boots. Jen and John just wanted to wander the Estes Valley and Rocky Mountain National Park until they found a place that inspired them — so they really had no idea where or when they were going to get married when we started the afternoon. We began at Lumpy Ridge and then drove up into the main area of Rocky Mountain National Park, stopping at a few places before we finally arrived at the Alluvial Fan area near Endo Valley. I’ve photographed weddings at the Alluvial Fan before — it’s absolutely stunning, and even more so in the winter/spring. The colors on Saturday were so crisp and punchy, and there was a little flurry of snowflakes spinning around. They looked around, decided the Alluvial Fan was as good a place as any, and they got married. In Colorado, you’re allowed to marry yourselves...
