Oppose Loaded and Concealed Guns in our National Parks
2009-02-18 13:28:00
At dinner last night, Oldest told us about the latest President he’s reading about. Reagan. Ewww. So far, he’s gone through books about Taft, Lincoln, Jefferson (my favorite), Kennedy, and Truman. What has he learned about Reagan? Oldest told us about when Reagan was shot. Apparently, the old man said to his doctors, “I hope you’re Republicans.” Dude *was* a charmer. Then Oldest started talking about James Brady and how he was hurt in an attempt to assassinate Reagan. I talked with both my children about how tragedy can be turned to triumph if you take something bad, learn from it, and make the world a better place. That’s what Sarah and James Brady did by forming the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. Oh, relax for a minute. No one wants to take away your guns. The Brady campaign simply seeks to enact common sense gun control laws. In one of his more destructive parting shots, George Bush changed a rule that prohibited guns in national park...

I was sitting in the park one summer day. Taking notice to nature and people around me. I notice a little boy climbing the monkey bars. While his mother watched in concern. But she didn't hold on the him. She grew a smile as he climbed higher.I took notice of a couple arguing. Tears were rolling down her face. as her boyfriend walked away, She stood there motionless. And smiled with her watery eyes.I watch an elderly couple walking pass me. They walked with canes and seem crippled. But they were laughing and carrying on. I can't control what is going on around me. But I can never let that interfere, From me being happy. source fsully 2003

National Parks Firearm Vote Pending
2008-02-16 17:14:00
Well Congress is now poised to vote on an ammendment to an important Interior Dept. bill which would legalize the carrying of loaded firearms in National Parks. This amendment is strategically proposed to achieve what the Interior Dept. has thus far failed to voluntarily do, despite over half of Congress voicing support of the change. It is a political opportunity to show Obama and Clinton for what they are. Will they support a common sense proposal to expand gun rights....or continue to pander to the leftist pacifists in their party?Law abiding citizens who pass through National Park land, should not have to worry about being arrested. If they are in compliance with state and local law there is no good reason to prevent them from having weapons, loaded or unload in a National Park.Frankly, I visit National Parks several times a year - and I am concerned about running into trouble in the woods. Yet, I have to make a decision not to carry, even though I have a permit to carry. It d...

Josh Sugarmann: Want Loaded Guns in National Parks?--Senator Tom Coburn's Y
2008-02-06 01:20:00
Well Mr. Sugarmann, I guess Tom Coburn IS my man! As early as next week, Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) is expected to offer an amendment to S. 2483, the "National Forests, Parks, Public Land, and Reclamation Projects Authorization Act of 2007," that would stop the enforcement of park service regulations requiring gun owners to keep their guns unloaded and stored while visiting most areas of America's National Park System. So, you don't want a lawful gun owner to be able to carry his gun onto property that his taxes paid for?  I fail to see your angle. Under the Coburn Amendment, state law would supercede the current federal regulations. So, if you have a concealed carry license that's valid in the state(s) the national park you're visiting is located, go ahead, load up that handgun and carry it around your campsite, over to Old Faithful, back to the general store for a six-pack of beer, and then back to your tent. If state law allows you to hang an AK-47 off your truck's gun r...
