Sai Baba - mankind to blame for every natural disaster
2008-05-21 16:24:00
Sathya Sai Baba claims that  ’the Lord’ (i.e. as he has often proclaimed himself to be - here to save humanity) tests mankind through sufferings and tribulations, which the Burma cyclone and the China earthquake most certainly are. “Many natural calamities are entirely due to man’s behaviour. Earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, wars, floods and famines and other ...

Cyclone Nargis--a "Grotesque" Disaster
2008-05-20 16:32:00
Yesterday, I wrote about Cyclone Nargis (Blog Post: Cyclone Nargis--Natural & Political Disaster), and ended my post will little resolved in my mind. This article from The Washington Post summons up my feelings on the recent natural disaster (turned political disaster) in Burma."THE STORY of Cyclone Nargis, which devastated much of Burma more than two weeks ago, long ago moved from the tragic to the criminal. It is now becominggrotesque."Diplomats from the United Nations and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations have announced they will hold a 'donor conference' in Burma's capital on Sunday. This will allow foreign ministers from around the world to preen and promise millions in loans and grants for 'reconstruction' that, if delivered, will enrich and empower the corrupt rulers of that unhappy nation. Meanwhile -- thanks to those same rulers--as many as 3 million people affected by the cyclone will still be suffering, and in many cases dying, because the regime refuses...
Cyclone Nargis--Burma's Natural & Political Disaster
2008-05-19 21:14:00
Burma and its citizens suffered from a catastrophic natural disaster when Cyclone Nargis made landfall on May 2, 2008. However, the poltical disaster that has followed the storm has only compounded the loss of life and suffering. It has been more than 2 weeks since the initial onslaught of the storm, and NPR reports that children are most in danger as aid workers continue to fight to be allowed to enter Burma.Today, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) held a news conference, at which they stated that Burma is finally ready to accept help from international aid agencies and is ready to admit foreign medical workers from Southeast Asian countries.17 DAYS after the initial storm . . . !On May 15th, CNN reported that the death toll could reach as many as 100,000. That number is nearly 5 times what the Burmese junta is claiming the toll to be.It is hard to say home many deaths could have been prevented if a government that cared about the lives of its citizens was in power...

Door knobs ? also useful in natural disasters!
2007-11-17 10:42:00

The door knob notes that Sacramento officials have recently come up with are a lot more serious, and more important in many ways. The city of Sacramento in America is quite ...

Dealing with Fires And Other Natural Disasters
2007-10-23 20:23:00
HAVE YOU FOUND YOUR FAITH?Do you have enough faith in God to help you cope with the troubles of our time? Are you a good and worthwhile person who is entitled to find God’s grace? When was the last time you prayed to God for the peace of mind to make you feel secure?Today we are bombarded by natural disasters such as fire storms, and acts of terrorism. How can we hope to cope with the insecurity of our time if we don’t have faith in God and in His goodness and mercy?I’m not talking about the faith that we salve ourselves with by going to a Church or Mosque or Temple. I am talking about the true feelings of your heart and mind. Are you really a person of faith?Do you practice what is preached to you?Are you kind and caring to other people?Do you truly love your fellow man?Are you willing to accept your neighbors right to believe in God in his or her own way?It is only by answering these questions positively that we can hope to become people of faith. It is only by trusting in God a...

Anathema - a natural disaster (2003)
2007-10-12 06:13:00

Natural disasters toughen Indonesia's nerve
2007-05-26 02:23:00
One year ago, Indonesia's cultural heart, the ancient Javanese city of Yogyakarta, was rocked to its core - quite literally.Shortly before sunrise on May 27, 2006, a magnitude-6.2 earthquake struck the city and Klaten district in nearby Central Java province, killing more than 5,800 people and leaving the region in ruins. "I just ran out of the house after the quake hit and immediately saw so many houses heavily damaged or collapsed," said Imam Purwadi, 53, one of the lucky survivors."This was the most powerful earthquake in my life." The temblor destroyed or severely damaged more than 350,000 homes and displaced 1.5 million people. Those figures would be astonishing except for the fact that the earthquake was anything but an isolated event for the country.Since Boxing Day 2004, Indonesia has experienced no less than eight major disasters that read off like a laundry list of horror: the Asian tsunami of December 26, 2004; a magnitude-8.7 earthquake on Nais Island in March 2005; the ...

2006-08-28 14:37:00
Pickens County is one of 155 Georgia counties recently designated as a primary natural disaster area by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. As of August 2006, continued drought conditions throughout most of the state make qualifying farm operators eligible for low-interest emergency loans through USDA's Farm Service Agency. For more information on disaster relief, visit the Farm Service Agency site for Pickens County Georgia HERE.
