Cat's Eye nebula
2008-05-29 02:30:00 Images of planetary nebulae ? such as the Cat's Eye nebula give us a preview of how the Sun's life will end. Stars like the Sun puff off their outer layers when they die, leaving behind a tiny white ember not much larger than the Earth.

The Helix Nebula and Knots
2008-04-30 18:49:00 Take a look at the picture above! It is a fascinating image of the Helix Nebula taken by the Hubble Space Telescope. This image shows tremendous detail of its mysterious gaseous knots. What actually causes these knots? One hypothesis for the fragmentation and evolution of the knots includes existing gas being driven out by a less dense but highly energetic stellar wind of the central evolving star. The Helix Nebula, also known as NGC 7293, lies about 700 light-years away towards the constellation of Aquarius. It is a good example of a planetary nebula created at the end of the life of a Sun-like star.

Beautiful Cocoon Nebula
2008-03-28 18:55:00 The Cocoon Nebula, named as IC 5146, is a strikingly beautiful nebula located about 4,000 light years away toward the constellation of the Swan (Cygnus). Inside the Cocoon Nebula is a newly developing open cluster of stars. Like other stellar nurseries, the Cocoon Nebula holds, at the same time, a bright red emission nebula, blue reflection nebulas, and dark absorption nebulas. These three processes create a host of colors. In the above image taken recently by the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) in Hawaii, USA, you can see the beautiful colors of the Cocoon Nebula. The massive star towards the left of the picture opened a hole in an existing molecular cloud through which much of the glowing material flows. This star was formed about 100,000 years ago and now it provides the energy source for much of the emitted and reflected light from the Cocoon Nebula. Take a look at another photo of the beautiful nebula. Source: NASA

Nebula in our Milky Way Galaxy could be Extraterrestrial UFO Gateway, Scien
2008-01-25 22:22:00 ?Scientists are observing something interesting. It is an unprecedented elongated double helix nebula near the center of our Milky Way galaxy?, the India Daily reports. Using observations from NASA?s Spitzer Space Telescope, astronomers report an unprecedented elongated double helix nebula near the centre of our Milky Way galaxy. The part of the nebula the astronomers observed stretches 80 light years in length. The research is published March 16 issue of the journal Nature.?We see two intertwining strands wrapped around each other as in a DNA molecule,? said Mark Morris, UCLA professor of physics and astronomy, and lead author. ?Nobody has ever seen anything like that before in the cosmic realm. Most nebulae are either spiral galaxies full of stars or formless amorphous conglomerations of dust and gas - space weather. ? The double helix nebula is approximately 300 light years from the enormous black hole at the center of the Milky Way. (The Earth is more than 25,000 light years fro...

Dust Pillars inTrifid Nebula
2007-12-26 11:36:00 Amazing space! In the above picture, you can see the end of a huge gas and dust pillar in the Trifid Nebula. According to NASA, Dust pillars are like interstellar mountains. They survive because they are more dense than their surroundings, but they are being slowly eroded away by a hostile environment. The pink dots are newly formed low-mass stars. A star near the small pillar's end is slowly being stripped of its accreting gas by radiation from a tremendously brighter star situated off the above picture to the upper right. The jet extends nearly a light-year and would not be visible without external illumination. As gas and dust evaporate from the pillars, the hidden stellar source of this jet will likely be uncovered, possibly over the next 20,000 years. NASA
Nebulas - Nebula One [VBR]
2007-12-07 19:42:00 Hailing from Somerville Massachusetts, The Nebulas couldn't be further away from the warm sunny beaches where surf-instrumental music originated. Who ever said you needed warm weather to play kick ass rock 'n roll surf music anyway? These boys play as if they were born in the back seat of woodie with a surfboard in their hands. With the best of the old and the power and electrical charged sounds of today, this band rocks you from the opening track straight through to the closer.- Keith Hannalecklets get serious again after that xmas stuff! keith is right and maybe one of the best 'high tide' versions is included on this album. i love these dark and heavy reverberated sounds. great album!! 5 stars to me!as alwaysthe dwarfoops

2007-11-13 14:50:00 Orion Nebula, also called as Messier 42 and M42, is one of the most photographed object in the nightsky. This brightest nebula is possible to spot on naked eye, although you might not see the differences to other objects around M42. The Great Carina Nebula
2007-10-27 13:00:00 reposted from: http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apo-d/astropix.htmlWASP comments are in bright green; highlights in blockquotes (yellow). The Great Carina Nebula Credit & Copyright: Robert Gendler and Stephane Guisard Explanation: A jewel of the southern sky, the Great Carina Nebula, aka NGC 3372, spans over 300 light-years, one of our galaxy's largest star forming regions. Like the smaller, more northerly Orion Nebula, the Carina Nebula is easily visible to the naked eye, though at a distance of 7,500 light-years it is some 5 times farther away. This stunning telescopic view reveals remarkable details of the region's glowing filaments of interstellar gas and dark cosmic dust clouds. The Carina Nebula is home to young, extremely massive stars, including the still enigmatic variable Eta Carinae, a star with well over 100 times the mass of the Sun. Eta Carinae is the bright star left of the central dark notch in this field and just below the dusty Keyhole Nebula (NGC...

Crab Nebula Simulation
2007-10-06 17:46:00 The Crab nebula is a supernova remnant found in the Taurus constellation. The only remnant of the source star is the Crab Pulsar in the middle which spins every 30 seconds or so an emits gamma rays and x-rays.The radiation emitted by this awesome supernova remnant is often used to calculate more intersolar bodies. For example, in the 1950's and 1960's the sun's corona was mapped by the Crab Nebula's radio waves passing through it and more recently the thickness of the atmosphere of Titan, one of Saturn's confirmed moons, was studied using the Crab Nebula's radio waves as well. The Crab Nebula is 6,300 light years away and has an apparent magnitude of only +8.4.The supernova was recorded by astronomers in 1054 A.D. Below is a sample of what they may have seen:

At only 420 light years away, it better allows observers to get a glimpse into the world of a newborn star. Source: NASAImage: NASA/CXC/JPL-Caltech/CfA
