The songs were different, sharing a "bluesy, jazz-tinged vibe as a common thread."When they finally gave up on the experiment, the majority of the group declared the tracks as un-salvagable and the tapes were put on the shelf. Only one track, Goin' Home, was finished and a few of the other songs showed up on the album Are You Passionate with Booker T. & the MG's.Now, Young and original co-producer John Hanlon have gone back to those tapes and are planning on releasing them later this year as part of the Neil Young Archives series. 2008-02-01 02:52:00 Remember Neil Young's Linc Volt, the rock star's converted 1959 Lincoln Continental Mark IV? Young is turning the car into a "bio-hydro-electric series hybrid vehicle." UQM Technologies released a statement this week that explains a bit more about the unique propulsion system that is going into this 2.5 ton, 19.5 foot-long vehicle (the longest production car ever made). The UQM press release says the company will be supplying a 150-kilowatt power system. Not a lot of detail, true, but we do know that Jonathan Goodwin's H-Line Conversions is also involved. The partnership will make a huge difference in the eco-friendliness of the ride. The production version Mark IV got 10 mpg. Young's should get "over 100 miles per gallon, according to UQM. He takes that innovation one step further with the first volume of his Archives series by declaring that the album will only be released on Blu-Ray and DVD.Young has never been a big fan of the CD, saying that the fidelity was limited, but the move is one step closer to making the CD format obsolete.In talking to Billboard while at Sundance, Young said "I know it's in technical production now, but it's only coming out on Blu-ray and DVD. Neil Young, John Goodwin talk about 100 MPG, biodiesel, plug-in 1960 Lincol
2007-11-18 02:44:00 Singer Neil Young and mechanic John Goodwin, who is converting Neil's 1959 (so it's not a 1960) Lincoln Continental Mark IV convertible to a plug-in hybrid that runs on biodiesel that will get 100 MPG, will be on CNN's "American Morning" Monday, November 19th, 6-9 am EST according to this press release. The interview will be featured on CNN.com and I will live blog Neil and John talking about "the new fuel-efficient life of the car and how it holds exciting possibilities for the future."The press release (in full below the fold) from Reprise Records also says Neil is directing a movie all about the car called Linc-Volt. The film will feature the delivery of the car from California to Kansas and then a trip to show off the car in Detroit with the goal of "raising awareness of the feasibility of hybrid-powered cars within the mainstream consciousness."
