From what I’ve read, opinions tend to span the spectrum from absolutely deplorable to amazing and indelible. They most certainly all mention the incredible rise the Montreal band has had since the release of their first album Funeral in 2005. How they have been become the “darlings” (why this word specifically is used so commonly, I have no idea) of the indie rock world is probably mentioned as well. There’s often a mention of David Bowie and occasionally of David Byrne. Religious lyrics, blah blah blah, seemingly cautious pretension, blah blah, how they’ll handle the success. Interestingly, the church has not been deconsecrated, so the gig was taking place on holy ground. They played nearly all of the new album, Neon Bible, and threw a couple of oldies in for thefans, after frontman Win knowingly commented that "it's a drag when bands turn up wanting to play the new stuff, when all you want is for them to play the fuckin' hits." I always thought they sounded like the Pixies mixed with Talking Heads, but the sound I couldn't shake out of my head this time was the crooning, anguished yelp of 80's icon Ian McCulloch and his band of guitar rock heroes. 2007-01-12 16:52:02 Während ich mir bei Black mirror schon jetzt lebhaft und mit Vorfreude vorstellen kann, wie dieses Lied recht bald unser Radio stürmen wird (ist schon auf #1 in meinem), erschliesst sich mir mp3:The Arcade Fire / Black Wave Bad Vibrations nicht so richtig. Klingt irgendwie nach 2 in 1, einfach hintereinander geklebt. Aber dann auch wieder wie eine Mischung aus nichts und wieder nichts. Ach, ich meine das gar nicht so negativ, wie es klingen mag. Gänzlich abseits von meinen morgendlichen Gedankenspielen, räubern “A hawk and a hacksaw” weiter auf dem Balkan. Was nach Hintergrundmusik zu einem Grillteller beim Rest-Jugoslawen (ich kokettiere mit meiner musikalisch-geografischen Unwissenheit) riecht, ist eigentlich ziemlich “authentisch” gemeint.
