Netflix on Hold
2008-09-04 13:29:00
Did you know you that you can put your Netflix subscription on hold? You can put it on hold for up to 90 days without losing the information in your account. I have the 1-at-a-time plan so this will only save me about $10/month, but every little bit helps. I already have a small stock pile of movies to watch and I can go the library anytime. For now, Netflix will have to wait.

(Actually, the website proclaims Netflix as "The BEST Way To Rent Movies.") So today?s questions are all about Netflix. If you have/had Netflix, is it worth it? What type of plan do you have? Is Blockbuster better than Netflix? Please feel free to leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section.Thank you!

Netflix Review In A Minute: Thank You for Smoking
2008-06-06 20:41:00
Let me first take a completely vain and shallow moment by saying; Aaron Eckhart? Yum. He's one of those hot but not too hot/unattainable men. Now I'm even more motivated to see The Dark Knight, if that were even possible, as he plays Harvey "Future TwoFace" Dent. Yum.OK, back to the movie. I liked it. I thought it was a cute movie. I really feel it should be labeled a horror/comedy a la Shaun of the Dead, for while it was funny, it was eerie to see how suave a lobbyist can be. Eerie to realize that while this may be fiction, lobbyists no doubt actually view their work this way: trying to bring together to very opposing forces onto one agreeable platform (with blatant disregard to death).Katie Holmes unfortunately shows up to play a slutty, manipulative writer. Fortunately she's not given many lines, so she doesn't fuck up the movie too bad. Her character also gets what's coming to her for being such a shitty writer. This movie is packed with top notch actors: Rob Lowe, Adam Brod...
Netflix Review In A Minute: The Queen
2008-06-05 18:54:00
Wow. What an amazing movie. In my mind, seeing this film was like the witnessing Miranda and Carrie having a spat while shopping for vintage clothes in Sex and the City. You know the dialogue exists, but only now, do we finally get to hear what they were thinking about one another. As is the case with the Royal Family in The Queen. You can read all the tabloids you want, all the biographies of biographies of speculations, but it was nice to see a film try and show the war between tradition and modernizing and between God and ethics with pieces of stories and facts from multiple sources...not just one biased side.Helen Mirrin did a fantastic job as the Queen of England. I should hope so since she won the Oscar for Best Actress in this role. Mirrin's Queen was one of poise and great tradition. Her plight in this film was attempting to stay afloat after the news of Princess Diana's death. Her belief was that, the monarchy has stood the test of time and no matter what comes and goes in...

Netflix Review In A Minute: The Number 23
2008-06-02 16:44:00
Jim Carrey plays Walter Sparrow, an animal control worker who's wife gives me a book called The Number 23, written by Topsy Ekkrets (aka Top Secrets). The book follows a detective by the name of "Fingerling", as he solves crimes and has violent sex with a luscious Italian woman. Walter begins to realize that the book almost parallels his life but there are some holes that don't match up. Then the book lays down the idea of the 23 Enigma: that everything in the world, can somehow be traced back to the number 23. Walter goes crazy trying to figure out who wrote the book in hopes it will stop his obsession with the number. The movie is a thriller, so I wasn't really scary. In fact most of the interesting or thrilling moments happen in the book. In the real world, Walter is very plain and somewhat boring up until the last 10 minutes of the movie. I liked Carrey in this. People always harp on him acting in serious acting roles, and ever since The Truman Show, I knew he had the ability ...
Netflix Review In A Minute: The Fountain
2008-06-01 22:15:00
I have no idea what the hell I just watched. I remember way back in the day, when Brad Pitt was attached to this film. I guess he pulled out and years later Hugh Jackman picked up the role. I sympathize with Pitt as this film is a piece of hot mess crap. We're led to believe that Tom and Izzy's love spans a millennium in three different time periods. OK. I can kind of get on board with that. But then you learn that Izzy is writing a book and that the Spanish Conquistador storyline is part of her book. So...then are we not supposed to think that in another life these characters were together? That it's just Izzy's creation? Or does Izzy know that in another life they were lovers. The presence of Izzy's book just confuses everything.I guess the main point of the movie is to teach Hugh about accepting life and death as an inevitability. Unfortunately the film seems more focused on looking cool than actually making sense. You jump through time to different versions of the characters...

I was just reading an article about Netflix’s new box where you could watch movies on demand. The obvious difference is that Netflix is known for their wide range of movies and TV Series ...

2008-05-27 19:56:00
We all know that IPTV is "not there yet", and the rising cable and satellite prices are killing subscribers. Due to lack of high-speed internet, viewing video over IP has suffered a setback, but more and more companies are trying to come up with similar devices that could help solve this problem. Netflix, the most low-priced online DVD rental service now teams up with Roku to introduce a device which will allow customers to watch movies easily on their televisions without involving mailing... Streaming Netflix Movies to TV
2008-05-27 16:44:00
Last week online movie rental giant Netflix announced that their subscribers can now purchase a $100 set top box, manufactured by Roku which allows them to stream movies directly to their television.  Last year Netflix took the first step in moving from mail delivery only when they introduced their Watch Now feature which allowed users to stream movies to their PC. However, the ability to stream movies to television will probably capture the attention of a broader audience. The Roku set top box provides the necessary connection to the internet via wired or wireless-G network connectivity. The device has HDMI, component, composite, and S-video outputs. Netflix customers initially have 10,000 titles available for streaming and can easily select them from their queue. For those who rent movies online via Netflix, the other good news is that the streaming service costs nothing. Once the set top box is purchased there are no additional fees beyond their typical subscriptio...

Netflix Review In A Minute: Fat Actress
2008-05-25 19:30:00
I may hate Scientology and it's cult members, but I really liked Fat Actress...and it's entire one and only season before it got the axe. I seem to be on a real self deprecating high, because I love the concept of the show: Kirstie plays a mock of herself as a fat actress trying to get back on television. It's kind of like The Comeback, but not a documentary. In fact, I think those two shows aired roughly around the same dates. The main arch of the seven episode season is Kirstie attempting to lose weight so she can fuck Kid Rock. I love the obscurity of picking Kid Rock. I'd understand if they chose him because...well...what else does he have going on and could easily be used in each episode, but he's only in one episode...so I'm not entirely sure why he was chosen.Like Will & Grace towards the end of the series, Kirstie whips out the celebrity cameos left and right, to the point of obnoxiousness. John Travolta helps out in the pilot episode and his psycho wife plays Kirstie'...

Netflix has a Rofu
2008-05-22 18:33:00
Do you remember when Tivo and Netflix teamed up, and everyone thought that this would be the start of having movies streamed to your TV but as the years went by it looked like this dream was fading. Now the dream is back Netflix has a set top box that can receive movies and stream them to your TV. I am very excited the Rofu box is here and the price at $99 is not too bad. Netflix Review In A Minute: My Life on the D-List Season 1
2008-05-22 16:40:00
I would just like to say how much I love Kathy Griffin now. I remember being annoying with her appearances on Seinfeld and her gig on Suddenly Susan...but now? Now I love her. The first season really attempts to set her life up for you; you meet her assistant, husband, parents, and her "main gays". First off, I love her assistant Jessica. While I'm not sold on her being a great assistant (given how late Kathy was to the Grammy's or Kathy not having her ticket to get into the Oscars), just her facial projection of not giving a rats ass about anything is enough to satisfy me.When Matt, her husband, is first introduced, he's rather large (close to 300 pounds) and you learn that he was thin before he and Kathy got together. I had a huge problem with him trying to sneak weights on his body, so that when he went to the doctor, he would weigh enough to qualify for gastric bypass surgery. They way he kept talking about how it'll just make everything easier really pissed me off. I think ...

Windows Vista Media Center is an excellent media server for your home entertainment needs. You can connect it up to your TV and watch movies, videos, stream music, record TV shows onto your computer, link up your Xbox 360 and do lots of other stuff. It’s pretty neat actually. However, the best part of Windows Media Center are the plugins! Using plugins, you can do all sorts of other cool stuff like convert your dvr-ms format recordings into other formats or access your Outlook email on Windows Media Center. There are a couple of plugins that I would suggest that really are great if you have Vista Media Center at home. Watch YouTube Videos in Vista Media Center Yougle Vista is a free pugin that will allow you to watch videos from sites like YouTube, Google Video, DivX Stage 6, DailyMotion, WWITV, listen to music from Shoutcast and view pictures from Flickr and ICanHasCheezburger, all via Vista Media Center. The only drawback is that the link to Yougle Vista is within the progr...

Netflix Review In A Minute: Scarface
2008-05-20 17:20:00
Well I finally watched Scarface. After a life time of rummaging through Scarface posters at Suncoast or having Scarface t-shirts shoved in my face walking down Canal Street...I decided to see what the fuss was about.Overall, I did like the film a lot. Not something I'd watch over and over again, it was definitely entertaining and held my attention all the way through. If you can get past Pacino's annoyingly fake Cuban accent, I think you could enjoy the film too. They definitely do not hold anything back. Language and gore abound in this film, starting with a rather bold attempt at a chainsaw torture scene. I secretly just wanted to see this film because I love Michelle Pfeiffer and she does a rather good job of playing a disco-era remnant now stuck in the 80's with her old Studio 54 nose candy habits. Her final scene in the restaurant where she rips Tony a new one, was brilliant. Unlike all of Tony's other subordinates, she was never afraid to stand up to him, which I loved.I fe...

Netflix Review In A Minute: I Am Legend
2008-05-14 17:56:00
What was geared up to be a great movie blockbuster (in my own mind), started off great and slowly tapered to one shitty ending.I remember I was so excited to see this movie when the original trailers came out. The trailers focused more on Will being a lone survivor in New York City following some kind of post apocalyptic event...but there were hints he wasn't alone. Oooo. Excitement she wrote! Then the trailer showing us the villains of the movie premiered and somewhere you know George Lucas was touching himself in anticipation.Fucking CGI-fake-video game-reject creations from The Mask-looking pieces of crap. Part of my whole problem with the Star Wars prequels, was that it seemed like nothing in the movies were real...and it wasn't even done in a stylized form like Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow. It was just blatantly bad actors standing in front of a green screen. You were watching a cartoon. In Legend, the production quality seems so high and then you see one of the mons...
Netflix Review In A Minute: The Hills Have Eyes 2
2008-05-09 16:50:00
I gotta say I liked this film way better than it's predecessor. Watching it, I really enjoyed vibe of watching some Saturday night B-movie horror show. It kind of gave a little nod to all the films that Mystery Science Theater used to make fun of. The tacky B-movie quality definitely came through when the troops searching for victims in the desert were actually spliced with scenes of the actors in front of a poorly executed green screen of a desert. Most likely shot post production, it was very noticeable. There was also something very telling about a story with troops being trained night and day for a foreign war, and having spent so much time and effort concerned with other nations, they are completely unprepared for the monsters they created at home.I'm very concerned with Wes Craven's mental health, as this time, we were once again forced to watch a mutant on hot chick rape scene. The previous film, it was Emilie De Raven...now it's some army chick. I understand that it has s...
Netflix Review In A Minute: The Hills Have Eyes
2008-05-08 05:41:00
I don't know if I can say I loved it or I hated it. I remember when this movie came out, like a year before, the movie Wrong Turn came out. Now, Wrong Turn is a blatant rip off of the original Wes Craven 'Hills' film, but it filled the gap for mutated cannibal families living in some secluded portion of the US. I had my fill, and by the time the remake of 'Hills' came out, I had had enough. But through the glory of Netflix, I thought "why the hell not?". Unlike Wrong Turn, this film though gory, is surprisingly tame compared to horror films out today. Having watched all of the Saw films, I really didn't find this film disgusting whatsoever. Maybe that's a plus for this film, or maybe I've just become too desensitized and have lost a shred of my humanity watching so many gore-fests. I have to admit most of the characters were pretty relatable, but like every horror film, there has to be a wimpy character that somehow stands up for himself and saves the day. Unfortunately, we...

Netflix Review In A Minute: The Descent
2008-05-05 19:34:00
Apparently Lifetime Television For Women wanted to dabble in the realm of horror films. OK not really, but for a full hour I was waiting for Tori Spelling or Jane Seymour to crawl out of the cave and talk about women's disease and how men keep them down. The beginning cabin scene was way too lesbianic for my taste. After watching an HOUR of women grunting and crying in a cave, they finally bring out the cave monsters and things get interesting. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by the scariness of the Morlock-like creatures ripping the girls apart. I had mixed up the monsters from the movie The Cave (released shortly after Descent) and was worried the film would be too sci-fi with winged dragon-esque creatures. Fortunately I was wrong. There were multiple times I literally jumped in my seat.I was a little disappointed by how they attempted to portray Juno having an affair with Sarah's late husband. They didn't really do a good job at building that back story. All we got was...
Netflix Review In A Minute: Schindler's List
2008-05-05 01:40:00
Wow. To say this movie is powerful would be an understatement. I came into the film not really knowing much about the plot. Well...to be honest, the only thing that stuck in my mind was the Seinfeld episode where Jerry makes out during the movie and his mom freaks out "you were making out during Schindler's List?!?" So yeah...that was the extent of my knowledge.I thought Liam and Ralph were phenomenal, and Kingsley also shined in the somewhat smaller role of Schindler's jewish accountant. I'm not going to lie, I forgot Ralph was in the film, and for the first 10 minutes of his first scene, I thought he was Schindler. Am I wrong? Doesn't anybody else agree with me that Liam and Ralph could be brothers? Anyway...I loved the anti-hero approach to Schindler. Here's a man in the Nazi party who creates a factory filled with jewish workers and through time manages to save over a thousand of them from death in Auschwitz. There's nothing like a stirring tale of redemption to lift the s...
Netflix Review In A Minute: Black Sheep
2008-05-01 16:44:00
I can't really say I enjoyed this film as much as I would've liked. When I originally saw previews for it in the theater, I actually thought it was a commercial that was going to cut to those Paper Bag People watching it in some Fandango.com movie theater. I was wrong, and the film is very real.Unfortunately it seems the production company had a "working backwards" attitude when it came to special effects and make up. While some of the "man to zombie sheep" transformations were well done, visually, you'd jump to another scene where you could almost see the victim holding a squeeze bladder filled with corn syrup and red dye. I also learned that there's another type of comedy in the world. We all know American comedies and British comedies, but I'd never considered New Zealand comedies. I sat there considering the film would be along the lines of "Shaun of the Dead"; a horror/comedy...and since I loved "Shaun", I was excited for "Black Sheep". No such luck. For me, the humor fell...
