Electronic health records (EHRs) are valuable for medical research and clinical trials. Researchers need EHRs to perform clinical trials on new medicines, for example. However, EHRs contain sensitive data and should not reveal the identity of the patient. Therefore EHRs must be anonymized or aggregated before they are released to the clinical investigators. read more

Update from Amsterdam - Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, Netherlands
2009-04-04 15:24:00
Jump to the full entry & travel map Amsterdam, Noord-Holland, NetherlandsHi Everyone!I feel like I have been traveling for so long already. I made it safely and easily to Abby's flat in Islington, London on Thursday night, and the next day we romped around London. First to Abby's favorite area, Portobello Market - kind of like a daily large flea market on a small street - they had everything there including a lot of vintage trinkets and clothes. We bought a bread pudding-cake thing from a street vendor, and made our way to Regents Park. The sun came out and we walked around the immaculate gardens, spring flowers and their smells were everywhere. We rested on a park bench in the sun and we both got a little tan - in London, who would have thought! We were a little nervous about our travel to Amsterdam, so we went back to her flat and got ready and packed and left early for our trip. We had to take the tube to Liverpool station, then a train to Harwich, which is righ...

Thanks to Islam In Europe:Amsterdam escaped a terror attack Thursday. A telephone call to the police Wednesday night said that three men wanted to set off explosives in packed stores in Amsterdam-Zuidoost. The authorities cleared branches of IKIA, MediaMarkt and Perry Sport Thursday morning and other stores remained closed due to 'a threat'.Only on Thursday evening was it clarified what the threat was. The telephone call was made from an apartment in Brussels, which was also searched.Seven people were arrested in the Netherlands, including a family member of somebody involved in the attacks in Madrid on March 11, 2004, five years and a day ago. The investigation is still ongoing and it is unclear when the shops will open again.

Netherlands to strengthen flood fortifications
2008-12-21 06:45:00
THE HAGUE (AFP) – The Dutch government on Thursday unveiled a multi-billion dollar plan to reinforce dykes and the coastline and augment fresh water supplies in the face of rising sea levels due to global warming. Two-thirds of the Netherlands lies below sea-level and the country is increasingly worried about the threat of devastating floods. The government's national water plan proposes strengthening hundreds of kilometres (miles) of dykes along the North Sea, adding massive sand deposits to the coast, increasing river drainage capacity, and expanding the freshwater Ijsselmeer (lake) north of Amsterdam. "The Netherlands has good fresh water provision, but it won't always be guaranteed," said a government statement, warning about the "intrusion" of salt water due to the rising seas.source:- YahooFull articleAtleast some Governments. have awoken to this grave danger of global w...
BoneBrass (Netherlands)
2008-09-21 22:03:00
The Dutch chamber music ensemble, BoneBrass, is formed by three tenor-trombone players, Wessel Bruggink, Jan Bults, Tjark Jan Wierenga and completed by Jan Jager who plays the bass-trombone. BoneBrass originated in their cooperation over the years in different ad-hoc orchestras. In the autumn of 1997 they decided to prolong this cooperation in the form of an ensemble. It was their ambition to promote the trombone as a vocal solo instrument for a bigger audience, especially lovers of chamber music who are less familiar with this genre. Obviously the name of the ensemble comes from the word trombone, which is derived from the Italian word 'tromba', and 'brass', the metal the instrument is made of.Even after these many years of making music together they are still motivated by the challenge to promote the trombone. They especially try to demonstrate the 'vocal' qualities of the instrument. In doing so their stage varies from theatres, castles, concert halls and gardens to churches...

It's been a while since my last posting. Time flies when you're having fun!Although this will disturb the chronology of my postings, this as an intermezzo with a preview from some of the pics I took last weekend during the Parkpopfestival 2008, one of the biggest free popfestivals in Europe which is held every year on the last Sunday of June. I will try to post some more pics during this week, I also shot some videos. If they came out okay and the sound is not too bad I will post them on YouTube and will make a post about it on my musicweblog BrownNoiseMusic. In this some pics from the Dutch band Moke from Amsterdam. They are a very good live band and played an excellent gig at the festival. The band had their major breakthrough last year and their debutalbum Shorland is selling pretty well in Holland. We had a great time at the festival. Other artists/bands that played were Kula Shaker, Sheryl Crow, and Monte Montgomery. This last band was new to me, but I was glad I didn't went t...

Italy-Netherlands match expected to draw interest
2008-06-09 14:41:00
World champion Italy and 2006 World Cup runner-up France launch their European Championship quests today when they play the Netherlands and Romania, respectively. The Italians and the Dutch, two of the top teams in the 16-nation tournament being jointly staged by Austria and Switzerland, should provide one of the event's early highlights. Both are attack-minded teams and both feature some of soccer's premier players. The Dutch are relying on Ruud Van Nistelrooy to provide the goals — supported by the likes of Robin Van Persie, Wesley Sneijder and Dirk Kuyt — and the Real Madrid player said he likes his team's options."In terms of attacking tactics, we are capable of putting some great moves together," Van Nistelrooy said. While realizing the Dutch offensive prowess, the Italians are hoping to take advantage of their perceived defensive shortcomings."The Netherlands are a very strong team with good ball possession and top-level forwards," defender Christian Panucci said...
Full Prepare of The Azzuri Italia to against Netherlands
2008-06-09 13:51:00
Azzurri coach Roberto Donadoni succeeded Marcello Lippi after the 2006 World Cup victory in Germany and, as he considered the Netherlands encounter in Berne, as well as the subsequent Group C tests against Romania and France, he admitted that their exalted status could be a burden. "When a side are world champions, there are obviously expectations," Donadoni said. "People think that because you won the World Cup it is a guarantee that you are going to win. But it happens at club as well as international level ? you can win the UEFA Champions League but it doesn't mean you will win it again. Every time there is a different winner and it is very difficult to repeat victories." (uefa.com)

I'm still behind with posting pics, but if I can keep up with this speed of three to four postings a week I should be finished within about three to four weeks, I hope.Anyway this time a selection of pics of a daytrip my wife N. and I made last year September to the city of Maastricht in the province of Limburg. It's located at the river Meuse (Maas in Dutch) in the south-east of the Netherlands, close to the border with Belgium and Germany. It's one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands and the city is involved in a dispute with the city of Nijmegen in the east of the Netherlands near the German border which is the oldest city in the country. I'm not going to interfere in that dispute. I'll just say that Maastricht together with Nijmegen is one of the oldest cities in the Netherlands.Maastricht is a nice city with some nice churches, many historical buildings and lots of nice caf's, restaurants and quite some sculptures.
