Flooding in New Brunswick
2008-05-05 23:05:00 Springtime in New Brunswick, especially along the St. John River, often includes some flooding as the snow and ice on the river melt. This year rivals records from the 1970's though, with many in the capital region of Fredericton looking for assistance in the past week. Downtown streets were submerged, and many of the farmlands lining the river have been quite damaged. In Saint John (an hour south of Fredericton), we haven't seen too much out of the ordinary. That was, of course, until the river up north started to follow its natural course and drain into the Bay of Fundy. Now, homes along the river are finding themselves in similar predicaments. Although the flood waters have not reached 8.2 m above sea level as in Fredericton, the river here meets the rising tides of the Bay of Fundy. We went out Sunday to take photos of the Royal Kennebecasis Yacht Club, which sits at a dead end at the bottom of Millidge Avenue (our street). First, check out this picture over at a local's Flickr...

SHEDIAC, NEW BRUNSWICK

CBC Autism Overview and New Brunswick
2008-02-13 09:56:00 (CBC Image)CBC has provided a good general overview of Autism Disorders in Canada in Autism Making sense of a confusing world. The overview includes a description of autism disorders, some autism history (Kanner and Asperger) and treatment. There is a good review of the funding and age restrictions for ABA services for autism in each province in Canada. There is one important omission and that is with respect to New Brunswick. Here we have a 5 year age cut-off as stated. But New Brunswick has begun to provide ABA intervention in our schools. This has been done by training Teacher Aides and Resource Teachers at the University of New Brunswick - College of Extended Learning Autism Intervention Training Program in Fredericton. A couple of classes of the UNB-CEL AIT have graduated, another is about to, and the government of Premier Shawn Graham and Education Minister Kelly Lamrock have committed to provide another 3 years of training for TA's and Resource Teachers th...

They told me it was sapposed to be only until we could get him some help. He needs an assesment and a medication overhaul where he went completly out of hand and uncontrollable during puberty. No hospital in n.b can take him. moncton refused him. I.W.K has been saying for the last year and a half the have no phycologist. PONTI COPERTI : HARTLAND, NEW BRUNSWICK
2007-05-28 08:04:00 Hartland, dove? Ho sempre amato i viaggi a tema.
Autism Plea - Keep Our Autistic Children Home in New Brunswick
2007-05-23 12:34:00 Daily Gleaner (Fredericton NB)Published Wednesday May 23rd, 2007Appeared on page C7Keep autistic children in the provinceThis is a letter to Premier Shawn Graham.I am a father of a 13-year-old autistic boy. We had to fight for services for our son from the day he was born: to get diagnosed, to get Applied Behavioural Analysis therapy (before it was mandatory), to get teacher's aides in the classroom, to keep him in school, and to get hospital treatment when his compulsion to bite and pinch got to the point where he was covered in wounds and bruises.I am afraid my wife and I do not have much fight left in us these days. Our son has lived under constant supervision 24 hours a day for the last year. Two workers stay in our home with him during the day (two are needed to restrain him during his rages). While we commend them for all they have done, the workers are merely a Band-Aid solution. Our only option at this point is to send our son out of country to the U.S. for treatment that he...
