...A continuation from yesterday,Nick Diaz vs Katsuya Inoue Dream 3http://www.youtube.com/v/yhN2a-UHpiS8This fight wasn't quite as one sided as the Mayhem Miller fight I posted yesterday, but still, Diaz chose to hang and bang with his opponent, and did quite well. As a matter of fact, Nick was just punching Inoue's head at will.Always good to see Nick Diaz do well, IMHO. It's a fun, if not fair, fight- watch it!

5/11 DREAM 3 - RESULTS

Just came back from an amazing event!! This was really a level up from the two first DREAM events. I am really disappointed that Joachim lost, but it was a great fight and both fighters had their chances. I dont think any of them should be disappointed with their efforts.Caol Uno pulled of the upset of the night and got a very good victory over Ishida. Disappointment of the night was Kawajiri acting like a spoiled brat after Uno's victory.BTW, Nick Diaz and Jason Miller were very good and entertaining in their fights! This was a very good event!Lightweight Tournament Round 2:8. Caol Uno Def. Mitsuhiro Ishida by rear-naked choke Round 2, 1:397. Eddie Alvarez Def. Joachim Hansen by decision 3-06. 5/11 DREAM 3 - Card Complete (?)
2008-05-08 15:26:00
It looks as though the DREAM 3 card it complete, still a small question mark over Nick Diaz but it looks as though he is fighting too. There is a lot to look forward to on this card! I am planning a preview of all the fights tomorrow, hopfully I can finish it. Either way, the last fighter added to the card is Pancrase title holder, Shoji. Shoji is a fighter with lots of talent, but he is yet to fight on this level. His biggest win to date was his KO win over Artur Oumakhanov in January, that victory earned him the Pancrase title. He should have a good battle against the veteran Takeshi Yamazaki.Added:Takeshi Yamazaki 13-7-2 vs. 6-2-1 Shoji MaruyamaThe complete card:Lightweight Tournament Round 2:Caol Uno 24-10-4 vs. 16-3-1 Mitsuhiro IshidaTatsuya Kawajiri 21-4-2 vs. 12-3-0 Luiz ?Buscape? 5/11 DREAM 3 - Fights Added
2008-05-02 13:19:00
DREAM has had their fair share of problems with the tournaments. Its been well documented and I don't want to spend too much time on it. NoB has summarized the problems here. There are a couple of reasons I don't want to dwell on these things too much, but basically if you have a tournament it happens. Just think of the problems Cage Force had with their tournament. I think the 2 first events has suffered because FEG rushed into them. For DREAM 3 things are looking WAY better. They are setting up reserve fights for the tournaments and also a welterweight championship eliminator fight! This is stuff I really like and I think DREAM 3 is showing signs that DREAM are serious. Add to that the possibility of a live broadcast on HDNet (I hope they can make that happen) and things are looking up!Rumor is that the winner of Diaz vs. Inoue will take on Hayato Sakurai for the welterweight championship belt.Anyway, today there were 5 fights announced:Nick Diaz 15-7-0 vs. 16-5-3 Katsuya InoueJ...

EliteXC: Betting Odds for Nov. 10 Renegade Event
2007-11-10 04:25:00
Several books have laid the odds for 5 of the fights at this Saturdays Elite XC: Renegade event. BetUS is currently offering the best odds and I will use those in this post. Two big names in MMA are back in action and one underground big name is making his real pro debut. The Elite XC events are broadcast on Showtime and are well produced. There's a couple of betting values on this card and definitely a number of fights worth tuning in for, especially Kimbo Slice.+325 KJ Noons vs Nick Diaz -450The reach and average ground game of Noons will leave him struggling to utilize his skill set in this fight. Diaz should be able to continue his winning ways once he decides to take things to the ground. Diaz via Submission+250 Bo Cantrell vs Kimbo Slice -350Kimbo may be a street fighting legend but he has some serious skills and has put a lot of effort into training for this fight. Cantrell is a well seasoned fighter but his record (10-10) speaks for itself, unpredictable. I would be hard pr...
Nick Diaz: MMA's Pro Weed Warrior - 09 Nov 2007 05:30:49pm
2007-11-09 18:30:00
By Ralph Gonzalez It was a brilliant performance by Stockton, California?s Nick Diaz (15-6) as he routed the highly regarded Japanese MMA star Takanori Gomi at Pride 33 in February. The huge upset would send notice to the Mixed Martial Arts community that Diaz was back in a big way. Unfortunately for the (Cesar Gracie) Jiu-Jitsu black belt and professional boxer, the win would later be declared a no-contest by the Nevada State Athletic Commission after their tests revealed a high level of marijuana in his system. ?I feel it was done out of ignorance. The win was taken away from me because I smoke weed and that?s stupid,? said the 24-year old Diaz. ?I?m a fighter and a martial artist. I feel martial artists and all artists in general could benefit from smoking weed and we should be able to smoke it all we want.? Diaz has proven himself in the past by impressively knocking out Robbie Lawler and most recently besting Josh Neer, Mike Aina and the aforementioned Gomi. ?I already kn...

Nick Diaz Says What He Thinks - 08 Nov 2007 10:50:24pm
2007-11-08 23:50:00
By Matt Young Kimbo Slice came to town with the reputation of being a bit of a wild child, but it was Nick Diaz doing the acting out at Wednesday's EliteXC press conference at the Ortiz Center. Diaz, who will fight K.J. Noons for EliteXC's 160-pound title in Saturday's main event at the American Bank Center, voiced his opinion on everything from legalizing marijuana to Showtime's mixed martial arts announcers. After registering the biggest win of his career by beating Takanori Gomi on a PRIDE fight card back in February, Diaz (15-6) tested positive for marijuana. The fight was ruled a no contest and the Stockton, Calif., native was suspended for six months. The failed drug test hasn't changed Diaz's lifestyle, though. He came back to win a split decision over Mike Aina on his EliteXC debut in September, and says he hasn't stopped smoking marijuana. "People can say all they want, 'Oh, he was suspended for marijuana,' but they never say,...

EliteXC Rises To Top
2007-09-24 21:30:00
After putting on an extremely successful partnership event with Strikeforce last month (Baroni v. Shamrock), EliteXC once again showed it deserves to hang with the big boys last week. UFC ex-patriots Robbie Lawler and Nick Diaz combined along with fighters such as Ninja Rua and Gina Carano (the sport's most popular female fighter) to put on a show which was recognized as having superior matchmaking and an excellent production value. And with PRIDE's buyout, the IFL offering a very different form of MMA, and WEC being technically owned by Zuffa, it's easy to see why many herald EliteXC as the only real competition. The praise is well deserved, considering that their fighters rival the WEC and they've landed an exclusive deal with SHOWTIME, which seems to not have enough programming to fill their slots. The result? EliteXC on SHOWTIME at least once a day. While it's still way too early to tell, if EliteXC can keep signing fighters (Sokoudjou, anyone?) and marketing the package ...

Irish Whip Exclusive: Blood Feuds Make For Bitter Showdowns
2007-08-08 06:04:00
While UFC 51: Bitter Rivals was cast as a classic match up of enemies, it turned out to be a lackluster night of fights between Ken Shamrock, Tito Ortiz, Andrei Arlovski, and Tim Sylvia. Had VP of Talent and Matchmaker Joe Silva been afforded the luxury of "fighting families" in the UFC at that time, surely he would have booked them against one another in a true display of bitter rivals. Now, with Nate and Nick Diaz together in MMA (although Nick is currently in EliteXC, not UFC) along with Manny Gamburyan and Karo Parisyan (they're cousins), both in the UFC, he's got just that. And if it wasn't enough that there are two families with fighters whose weights match up perfectly, they hate each other. (Originally published at martialbase.com)The bad blood started back at UFC 49 when Karo Parisyan beat Nick Diaz by split decision (pictured, credit: fightnews.com). Most said that this was one of the top ten UFC bouts of all time, and even more suggested that the decision could have go...

Drugs: A Rising Problem in MMA?
2007-07-20 04:02:00
These days, drugs almost seem to be a part of a mixed martial artist's everyday diet. Recently we've had an influx of fighters testing positive for some form of substance. These fighters include UFC hall of famer Royce Gracie, Nick Diaz, Stephan Bonnar, Thiago Alves, Johnnie Morton, and more recently UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk and his most recent challenger Hermes Franca. Unfortunately, drug abuse is becoming a major problem in MMA.The California State Athletic Commission recently released drug testing results. As many as twenty-eight fighters licensed by CSAC have violated the state's anti-doping policy from March 31 through July 6 of 2007. What's more sad is that a whopping 71 percent are from mixed martial arts alone. Shocking to say the least, considering that MMA has 14 fewer cards than boxing and kickboxing combined. The list released by CSAC does not specificy the type of failure to fighters of any discpline, however there were 28 violations reported, 9 of which a...
