British Airways stepped down over suspending a check-in desk worker for wearing a cross and a teaching assistant who wears the niqab has been sacked.For those of you who missed the debate, Nadia Eweida had refused to return to work at Heathrow airport since British Airways bosses told her last month she could not wear a necklace bearing a small cross over her uniform. She was asked to conceal the cross underneath the uniform cravat but refused on the grounds that she did not see why she should hide her faith. She was offered a choice between suspension on paid leave, which she feared would be an admission that she had done something wrong, or unpaid leave pending disciplinary action, and she chose the latter.British Airways denied it had banned the wear... |
