Is 140 Characters Worthy Of The Nobel Peace Prize?
2009-07-19 22:43:00
Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama were all previous prize winners. Barack Obama may be in the running this year. So is it possible that his competition could possibly be a social network, the likes of Twitter?  Does a platform, an inanimate entity warrant the same consideration as a person?
Twitter On A Nobel Frontier
2009-07-09 13:21:00
Twitter is a great communication tool for personal and business use. Its ability to offer instant action and reaction is perfect for fundraising. And we can already see their success. Recently Mark Pfeifle, a former Deputy National Security Advisor to George W. Bush said, “If there’s anybody that should possibly get a Nobel Peace Prize in the next time around, it should be the founders of Twitterâ€. When he was speaking to Fox News he told them about Twitter’s initiative helping users to get news from Iran. Social media communications played a vital role during the Iran Revolution. The social web has been a fantastic place for nonprofits to support social causes with movements like Twestival and the Case Foundation’s Giving Challenge.  One major issue that Twitter is facing at the moment seems to be long-term establishment and financial security. They have definitely contributed in taking social media to a next level, but capitalization is of utmost importance. They ...

No Nobel Peace Prize For Self-Claimed God of Gods Sathya Sai Baba
2009-06-18 03:15:00
Not far short of a decade ago, it had been announced in Sathya Sai Baba centers round the world that Sathya Sai Baba was a candidate for a Nobel Peace Prize. On behalf of our networked group of former followers of Sathya Sai Baba, I wrote to Dr Geir Lundestad, then Director of the Nobel Institute. An exchange of emails ensued, and I provided him with in-depth documentation concerning Sathya Sai Baba and his sect. Dr Lundestad emphasized that the policy of the Institute is never to issue any list of candidates, either before or after the winners of the Peace Prize are announced, and that the names of Nobel Prize recipients are announced, while the names of failed candidates are not revealed. Dr Lundestad's statements are a far cry from the announcement of Sathya Sai center leaders worldwide. Great had been the rejoicings of devotees, despite the fact that a Nobel Peace Prize - in an odd come-down from the dizzy heights of Heaven - would sit oddly encircling the neck of God.
?Black Sheep? Of Sweden?s Nobel Family Called By Ba-Ba (Sathya Sai Baba)
2009-06-14 05:08:00
One of Sathya Sai Baba's many hugely expensive and major Sai propaganda efforts has been the setting up of Sai Global Harmony via WorldSpace International Satellite Radio Service. It broadcasts 24/7 to many countries. A director of WorldSpace is Dr Michael Nobel, who, contrary to long-uncorrected statements (e.g., in Wikipedia) by Sai Baba activists, is NOT the son of the Nobel Peace founder Alfed Nobel ? who died in 1896! But he, though widely considered 'black sheep' of the Nobel family, has answered the Ba-ba call of Sathya Sai Baba who, absurdly, told the Australian journalist, that when Jesus, the Lamb of God, called 'Ba-Ba', he was referring to Sathya Sai Baba! The Nobel 'black sheep' is making more than a bleat or too but has extended his international satellite broadcasting corporation to send Sai Baba propaganda across the air-waves of the world.

BIRD & BUFFALO WIN NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE
2008-10-14 15:36:00
IN AN UNPRECEDENTED MOVE BY THE PEOPLE WHO SHOULD KNOW BETTER WHEN IT COMES TO THE WRITTEN WURST...TURD, SORRY, WORD, THE NOBEL PRIZE FOR LITERATURE HAS ALMOST BEEN AWARDED TO THE BIRD & BUFFALO. HERE ARE THE REASONS WHY THE JUDGES CHANGED THEIR COLLECTIVE SPLIT MIND AT THE LAST MINUTE:1. Judge Klaus Von Schtikiarschen had to declare a precarious connection to the auld Buff. Apparent Lee, he laid a certain Cindy Spreadumwider shortly after the auld Buff did. Buff's name was subsequently mentioned by the harlot to him as a possible future literary genius in a postcoital Scrabble game.2. No-one with above average sized testicles has EVER been awarded this prize. The Bird & Buffalo BOTH have scientifically-verified larger than life balls.3. The book submitted on behalf of the Bird & Buffalo by an anonymous admirer entitled FEK-U: THE COLLECTED WORKS OF BIRD & BUFFALO DURING THE SPLODGE WARS - 2001-PRESENT was considered to be so devoid of any real meaning - roughly 98....
Nobel Prize-Winner, Paul Krugman: An Economic Prophet
2008-10-13 15:28:00
Paul Krugman, much-loved liberal blogger, economist at Princeton, columnist for The New York Times, author, and now, Nobel prize-winner for economics, clear-sightedly predicted our current market meltdown. Writing in mid-2005,"The U.S. economy is currently suffering from twin imbalances. On one side, domestic spending is swollen by the housing bubble, which has led both to a huge surge in construction and to high consumer spending, as people extract equity from their homes. On the other side, we have a huge trade deficit, which we cover by selling bonds to foreigners. As I like to say, these days Americans make a living by selling each other houses, paid for with money borrowed from China. One way or another, the economy will eventually eliminate both imbalances."Congratulations to Dr. Krugman and would that we had all listened to him and acted on his warnings sooner.

Nobel Winners I've Read
2008-10-12 02:23:00
Regarding the last post, more for my own edification than anything else, here's a list of the Nobel Literature winners I've read:1907 - Rudyard Kipling (as a kid, granted)1938 - Pearl S. Buck -- uh, good question which one. Again, it was as a youngster -- one of her books seemed to get assigned in every literature class I took. But I can't remember which. Not "The Good Earth."1947 - Andre Gide ("Amyntas")1954 - Ernest Hemingway (most of his novels/collections)1955 - Halldor Laxness ("Independent People")1957 - Albert Camus ("The Stranger," "The Plague")1962 - John Steinbeck (various and sundry)1969 - Samuel Beckett ("Waiting for Godot")1982 - Gabriel Garcia Marquez ("Love in the Time of Cholera")1983 - William Golding ("Lord of the Flies")1993 - Toni Morrison ("Beloved")1999 - Gunter Grass ("The Tin Drum")2001 - V.S. Naipaul ("A Turn in the South")2006 - Orhan Pamuk ("Snow")Geez, not a real hot record, huh? Now there's a few disclaimers -- of course I've read T.S. Eliot and Eug...

Muslim Nobel Prize Winner Ahmed Hassan Zewail
2008-05-05 10:46:00
Two years ago I noted that hundreds of blogs and websites mistakenly offer up the statistic that there are 10 or 11 Muslim Nobel Prize Laureates. Excluding the Nobel Peace Prize which does not reward intellectual achievement (after all, Yasser Arafat got one) I wrote that there were only three Muslims (out of 1.5 billion) who have won Nobel Prizes. Two in Science (Abdus Salam, and Ahmed Zewail) and one in Literature (Naguib Mahfouz). Seven months after I wrote that article I should have updated the total to 4. So please add Turkish novelist Orhan Pamuk, who won the 2006 Nobel Prize in Literature. Pamuk, it should be mentioned, is hardly a Muslim having been brought up in a secular, westernized family. He is what I call a MINO, a Muslim in Name only. Another MINO is Ahmed Zewail, a most busy scientist to whom many Muslim websites like to proudly point as an example that a Muslim can indeed achieve scientific success. However, Zewail himself has written that one of the barrier...
