Normandy
2008-07-23 18:36:00 It's a mild evening. A tabby cat silently rubs itself round my ankles before wandering off on guard duty elsewhere. The only sound is of a Union Flag fluttering gently in the breeze and a few birds going about their business...

New Homes in Plano - Normandy Estates Home Prices
2007-10-19 17:08:00 New Homes in Plano Normandy Estates is a new development located at Tennyson and Spring Creek Parkway. The land has been graded and the streets are about to go in. (you can drive your SUV to get a feel for the development - it's muddy too) This choice piece of real estate must have cost the developer a pretty penny. (see starting prices below) Originally, this was commercial property rezoned for residential. 75 acres of raw land. Homes prices are as follows this includes the lot and home. 52 estate lots - start at $1,600,000 - all Plano School District 49 villa lots - start at $900,000 38 townhomes - start at $500,000 Some of the estate lots will back up to Indian lake and are heavily wooded. I'm assuming the original owner is still there, mobile home, horses, row boat and chair still remain just north of the development. Watch for incentive pricing or VIP list to jump start the development, all builders do it that way. Best prices will be fo...

An Autumn Vacation in Normandy, France
2007-10-12 10:47:00 One of the most evocative and historic regions of France is the département of ?Normandie? or as we say in English, ?Normandy?. This northern region of France has much to offer either in season or from autumn though to springtime. The countryside is sparsely wooded and interspersed with lush farmland, bustling market towns and historic cities. It?s dramatic 360 mile coastline, granite cliffs in the west and limestone cliffs in the east, boarders the English Channel and it is from here that William the conqueror came on his conquest of England in 1066AD. In the beautiful town of Bayeaux can be found, a truly historic and immense chronicle of that event known as the ?Bayeux tappestry?. It was this region that also saw the largest military landing in history. It took place in Normandy on June 6, 1944 and sombre monuments, museums, bunkers and cemeteries cover the region. Perched high on a 264-foot high rocky islet is the...read more

Estates at Normandy - A Follow Up
2007-10-02 22:06:00 Preview of Estates at Normandy Concept Since there has been quite a bit of interest in the Estates at Normandy - a new home subdivision that's just starting to develop in West Plano, I'm going to follow it closely and give updates as necessary. The land is cleared but no roads or lift station yet. It's going to resemble a European feel in homes and landscaping. That's been a very successful concept in the Dallas market. The photos are of another Hawkins Wellwood townhome community in Willow Bend Park. I'm betting that this same look and feel will follow at the Estates at Normandy. We'll keep you posted on the progress...

Honfleur, Normandy
2007-07-28 05:47:00 With so much to do and see in the Normandy region, it is easy to pass right by the little gem of Honfleur. Honfleur is a lovely little seaside town that makes for a nice stopping point after touring the famous D-Day beaches. Fans of the painter Eugene Boudin will know Honfleur, his hometown, from some of his more famous paintings. The town is wonderfully located on the south bank of the Seine River estuary, just across from Le Havre, and is still a working fishing village. You still can buy fish directly from the fishermen in their boats. The highlight of any visit to Honfleur is the Vieux Bassin, the old Dock area. The narrow houses that surround the docks are a reminder of the days when Honfleur was an important port city. Boat tours around the estuary are a nice way to spend a clear summer day. Near the docks, wander over and explore the impressive all-wooden (except the foundation) church of St. Catherine. But Honfleur isn?t so much about sightseeing destinations (maybe that is ...

Normandy grave hints at 300-year defiance of the Roman Empire
2007-01-28 13:12:02 A macabre 1,700-year-old mass grave of people and horses, discovered in Normandy, poses perplexing new questions about the Roman conquest of France. Was there a small part of ancient Gaul which refused, Asterix-like, to surrender for 300 years? The grave site, from the 3rd century, which was discovered by French state archaeologists at Evreux, appears to contain ritual arrangements of human and horse remains. In one, a human skull is clasped between two horse's skulls, like the two halves of a giant shell. In Gaullish times, 300 years earlier, graves containing both horses and people were common. No such grave has ever been found from the Roman period, and even in the previous era, the remains were kept carefully apart. In the recently discovered grave, about 50 miles west of Paris, the bones appear to have been intentionally mixed. The skeletons of 40 people and 100 horses have been found so far.Read the rest of this article...
