Great Expectations Tables For October 9
2008-10-10 02:30:00 McCain seems to have reduced Obama's a bit, and Obama's big lead in some key states seems to be declining. Last week Obama was up by about 6.5% nationally, and this week he's up by about 5.5%. McCain's attack mode paying off a bit? Overall though, there has not been much change in this chart in the past few days. Seems to be solidifying wherever they are.Colorado is back in the McCain column as Obama is now up by 3 there. Pollster.com's average has Obama up by 2.7%. But McCain can definitely still take Colorado, so Obama should not abandon the state. McCain is losing 13% of Bush voters there.New Hampshire, very close for a long time, has pulled away for McCain in a major way. He's now up by 11 points there and it looks hopeless for McCain. New Hampshire is not nearly as conservative a state as people think it is, and a lot of people from Massachusetts have been moving to the southeast part of the state recently. McCain is losing a 11% of the Bush voters in New Hampshire. That...

As Goes North Dakota . . .
2008-09-22 22:30:00 Ever since I was in college, I’ve had a “thing” for the state of North Dakota. Perhaps it was just the state’s obscurity and isolation. More likely, it was reading a brochure as an undergraduate on the make-up of the student body at my alma mater (America’s finest liberal arts college, now tied with a, ...

North Dakota releases own Bakken report
2008-04-29 16:18:00 The North Dakota Department of Mineral Resources has releases a state report on the Bakken shale formation in North Dakota   The currentlly recoverable portion of the Bakken formation represents about ten percent of known domestic reserves.  That is just over one percent of total reserves. James Macpherson: BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The Bakken shale formation in North Dakota holds up to 167 billion barrels of oil but only about 1 percent of it can be recovered using current technology, a new study says. The study released Monday said current technology could lead to the recovery of about 2.1 billion barrels in North Dakota’s portion of the formation, where oil-producing rock is sandwiched between layers of shale about 10,000 feet under the ground. The estimate of recoverable oil included in the study by the state Department of Mineral Resources was similar to that of a federal study released earlier this month. With the price of world oil at one hundred twenty dollars...

North Dakota Supreme Court Denies Access to Software
2008-04-18 05:01:00 Bismarck, North Dakota. A crafty DUI defense attorney, Steven Light, in North Dakota raised an interesting legal issue, but the state Supreme Court denied the motion. DUI breath test machines utilize software to compute the test results. In order to mount an aggressive DUI defense an experienced attorney must attack every piece of evidence and each element of the crime. It seems a no brainer for a defense attorney to request access to review the breath test machine software. Steven Light did just that. The issue states the government must hand over to the defense all evidence they rely upon to prosecute the defendant. That includes the inner workings of the breath test machine. Light’s client Glenn Levine pleaded guilty to his DUI, but reserved the right to appeal the software issue. The North Dakota Supreme Court listened to the argument, but denied the defense’s right to have access to the software. North Dakota’s breath test machine is the Intoxilzer, which is p...
