In contrast to the sister site about endangered languages in Europe, it seems that the languages of NE Asia are so much worse off! I am wondering why that is.The Soviets did a great job at first of trying to preserve national languages, but then after Stalin's lunatic purges in the 1930's, everything pretty much reverted back to Russification, and I guess that just continued on even after Stalin died. Under Putin, Russia is actually overtly hostile to all non-Russian tongues spoken on its territory, as fascists always are.Most of these languages have been completely taken out by Russian. Russian is nuking languages over there the same way English is nuking languages over here. It's the great destroyer. The national median home sale price was down 7.7% from a year ago. Keep in mind that home sale prices do not move on national averages. That "national market" is essentially a myth. Both the West and the Northeast saw increases in activity - 2.2% in both regions - from the preceding month. But the West region experienced a 22.3% drop in activity and the Northeast 18.8% from March 2007 to March 2008. The Northeast, of all four regions, was the only one that experienced a rise in median sale price, up 4.6% to $284,300. Remember, that all real estate is local. Expecting some solid cloud cover and perhaps some NCP, (Non-crystallizing precipitation, we don?t use the word r**n in the skiing world. It?s taboo) I saw the bright rays of the early morning sun peeking through the shades. Curious whether my eyes were deceiving me, I went out to porch to find bluebird skies and warming temperatures. It was day 80 of the 2007/2008 version of the search and having heard the grooming machines all over the mountain last night, I knew that the mountain would be ready. Stepping out of the condo and onto the super-soft April snow, I looked around to the visible peaks to see if any new bare spots were creeping up, it is April 10th after all, and yet the brown blemishes were few and far between. This would be another epic day on snow.

In 2007 there was a 1.6% advance in sales over 2006 at a time when the West recorded a decline of 32.2%, the Midwest 26.7%, and the South 26.3%. Keep in mind these are new home sales, not "resales." And, like all numbers on the real estate market, it depends on where you live. There is no national real estate market.

A study of weather station data from across the Northeast from 1965 through 2005 found December-March temperatures increased by 2.5 degrees. Snowfall totals dropped by an average of 8.8 inches across the region over the same period, and the number of days with at least 1 inch of snow on the ground decreased by nine days on average. "Winter is warming greater than any other season," - said Elizabeth Burakowski, who analyzed data from dozens of stations for her master's thesis in collaboration with Cameron Wake, a professor at the University of New Hampshire's Institute for the Study of Earth, Oceans and Space.
